I think you're spot-on with the horse connection, but I think they're aesthetically closer to the Anglo-Saxons or Norse, based on the helmets, tunics, and "Celtic knot" imagery. Reference preview.redd.it/q6zgix9m7hb21.jpg?auto=webp&s=83fe56cb0d72b4b871504b73cc2372d294825396

Hi! So the germanic tribes that I referenced are comprised of various nomadic tribes! The celts used to occupy parts of the germanic region, and the vendel era helms were brought down from Scandinavia during migration to that region! There is a lot of cultural overlap. However, the lorica plumata scale armor is very specific to a certain group! The sarmatians in Iran :D All of these tribes were assimilated together to take over Western Rome! Like I stated in the video. I hope that helps!!
@BrorealeK
@BrorealeK Год назад
Migration Era armor for just about everyone (Germans, Huns, Persians, North Africans, even Romans) were heavily based on steppe scale armor. The armor of the Anglo-Saxons was made by people who'd taken notes from nomadic Alans or Iazyges, either roaming through Germany or working for the Romans.
@sucessfulphailure
@sucessfulphailure Год назад
@@quelaag Ah Vendel era was what I was thinking of! And I didn't know the extent of the migration of armor and ideas though, very cool! Great little historical video! There's so many historical inspirations in ER too! (Byzantine crown on Godrick, Varangian armor on Bell-Bearing Hunter, 16th century burgonet on Banished Knights). Excited to see more!
@Lanval_de_Lai
@Lanval_de_Lai Год назад
@@quelaag I think the inspiration depends in the part you are looking. The chest armor sure looks like the lorica plumata and I overlooked that! I think they are inspired in the Slavs and the Rus, the Norse people that lived in slavic territory.First, the helmet is clearly norse, inspired in the Vendel era as someone said before. Second they also use scaled armor. I have seen historical images of early Slavs using armors that looked like lorica plumata, and it's not crazy because those Slavs lived in the same region as the Sarmatians and assimilated Sarmatian population. But they are more often reconstructed using the "turkic scale armor" (?) (I don't know how it's called, the one used by the Huns and the Mongols for example). I just thought that the lorica plumata was an artistic choice but maybe you are right that it was on purpose. Third, the dismounter. Not being super curved it's an hybrid between a scimitar and a straight sword. The Sarmatians used straight swords but many Slavs used sabres, it's the type of sword associated with them. An hybrid between a scimitar and a straight sword is the perfect definition of the early slavic culture with many european (the helmet) and asiatic influences (the scale armor). The description of the dismounter says "combines the blades of a scimitar with the heft of a hatchet.", it combines the greater influences of the Slavs of Rus: the Norse (the Rus) with the hatchet; and the asiatic influence of the steppe in the scimitar, used by many Turkic peoples (the Tatars for example). Four, the description of the armor says "These hulking, fearless mercenaries, said to hail from the mountaintops of the wintry north, are adept at fighting on horseback". They don't live in the steppe, both the area of the Eastern Slavs and the Sarmatians is quite flat but if a I have to choose wich culture fits more in a mountain covered in snow and pines that would be the Slavs for me. I didn't specify all the time but I'm talking about the Slavs associated with the Rus. The Western and Southern Slavs have other different influences. For them being mercenaries could be a reference of the Varangian Guard or also the Cossacks that were the definition of Slavic mercenary very good on horseback with many steppe nomadic/turkic influence. Anyway I think it's a good video very well informed!
@Lanval_de_Lai
@Lanval_de_Lai Год назад
@@quelaag Also, to clarify: the Sarmatians and Scythians are considered Iranian as they spoke Iranian languages but they don't come from Iran. The Indo-European language divided himself in many other languages and one of them was the language of the people that migrated eastward instead of westward and it was the ancient Indo-Iranian language, later those people migrated to many regions including Persia and India. The language of the ancestors of the Persians, the Scythians and Sarmatians would be the ancient Iranian language but they lived in the steppes and deserts to the north of Persia and later they migrated there, not the opposite. As the language of the Scythians and Sarmatians became extint it was logical to call them Iranian languages. Edit: I'm not trying to correct everything it was just that I have spent many hours trying to understand these things and if now I can help anyone doing so I want to :)

The Kaiden warrior's helmet draws its inspiration directly from Migration/Vendel period Scandinavia. It's almost a 1-1 remake of the Vendel 1 helmet. Everything about the scale armor is correct , drawing inspiration from the Scythians.

As a lover of horsey nomad boys, I always appreciated the Kaiden riders and their aesthetic. As soon as I could farm it all I yoinked that set for my first character. You did the Scythians and Sarmatians justice in this short video, which is hard to do with such little information and the fact that their history blends with each other and with all other nomads and peoples who passed through the Pontic steppe.

Hey Quelaag I have been doing some research on the topic and I wanted to suggest an idea about what the Wandering Nobels are searching for. I am not positive but I compiled a list of what is found in the chest of each carriage, crashed or not: Greataxe Morning Star Lordsworn Greatsword Flail Greatsword Carian Knight Sword Golden Troll Sword Giant Crusher Great Stars Flowing Curved Sword Treespear The only non-weapons are the Ruler Set and the Greatshield Talisman. I think they are looking for legendary god-slaying weapons. I don’t really know why, but all but 2 of the carriages, either crashed or moving have weapons in them. And Nobels/Kaiden are guarding the Great Epee in Limgrave too. I don’t really know why, but it’s just a thought they seem to be collecting weapons.
@quelaag
@quelaag Год назад
I was thinking that too. Though I believe-- isnt st trina's torch in the mix as well? Seems to be weapons and pieces of history that are important to the order in some way
@antoniowaraich8652
@antoniowaraich8652 Год назад
I had always assumed that the items in the chests belonged to the dead champions, whose bodies were transported by the carriages. The Aristocrat Hat could help explain why the wandering nobles are following them: "Leather hat decorated with a withered feather. Travel attire worn by nobles in the capital, and the belonging of a family which claims a knight as an ancestor." As for the other nobles, I think their intentions are similar to the grafted scions and Godrick: "After falling from grace, the dregs of the golden lineage sought power and purpose in the past." One apparition in the Weeping Peninsula is also repeating one of Godrick's lines: "Ohh, there it is, the tower! Finally, I can return. To our home, bathed in rays of gold! "
