1000% one of the best current BMW's 1 - Proper iDrive controls 2 - Proper AC controls 3 - Amazing Engine 4 - Good sized grills...... 5 - Fun to drive... How can you go wrong with that!
@@arizonacolour8793it is pretty ugly. I hate when people say “well compared to” as if that’s a good argument in anyway lol ugly is ugly, wtf is less ugly?
Sad but true. In this dystopian BMW design scheme we have to be satisfied with a 7 out of 10 car that has kind of a "rich executive" suit and tie look rather than aggression and muscles under the skin look I would like to see more of.
have had bmws for over 30 years. But the new ones have lost all the bmw looks. front end looks like a skoda. And the guy that was head at the M department got tired of the topp brass suits didnt let him build the cars like he wanted. He went to Hyundai and started with the Hyunday N cars.
@@evidencenutrition > And stupid easy to tune I wish. Newer BMWs are a pain to tune. Gotta remove the DME, ship it to finland to be unlocked, get a license for tuning software, have software installed, reinstall DME, then load your maps. Definitely not easy compared to something like a WRX or Mustang where you can buy a handheld tuner and get the car tuned in 15 minutes. They do make good power with a tune and bolt ons. It's just expensive, time-consuming and nerve-wracking to get them tuned.
I've been looking at both on the used market and the biggest difference is that a low mileage, loaded Z4 M40i will have decreased ~$20K in price in 2 years, which has been very tempting to me to go get a used one. A used 2023 Boxster S would've originally cost around $85K, and 2 years later, it's STILL somewhere going for around $85K lol.
@@JOBNUMBER The Boxster is a 4 banger, which turns off a lot of people. I owned 2 Boxster S's, both 981s with the 6, they were brilliant, but expensive to buy and expensive to maintain. I was offered an allocation for a 2024 Boxster GTS which would have had the 6, but throw in a couple options and you're at $140k.....ridiculous, especially for something you can't park outside in the rain without risk of water ruining the electronics inside the cabin.
Had both a base 718 boxster 2.0 and a z4 m40i. Here is the real world list of pro/con: Z4: + much more comfortable on cruise and highway + Engine noise is better at low rpm + Easier to rev on open road (see boxster below) + More practical (one bigger trunk is better than 2 small trunk - steering wheel feel numb - feel heavy to drive and less controlled that the boxster - gearbox feel slow on paddle rev - no ventilated seat - over 2 year lots of issue so I recommend buying on warranty - average on track (but both car are extremely expensive for tracking so unless you are very wealthy) Boxster 2.0: + feels sturdier in terms of quality + super fun to launch and in every day usage (thanks to the sport chrono button) + feels faster even on base boxster (less insulated) + steering wheel best in class + Porsche community is great (people hail on the road and so forth) + ventilated seat ! + only car that I sold for more than I bought - issue with gearbox for open road rev, 7k rpm in 2nd gear goes at 120km/h… so you go in 1st gear sometime 🤣 feels bad - less practical - less comfortable on highway - Porsche premium warranty program is expensive
Holy shit! I had no idea they brought back the manual. I just spec'd mine out on BMW's website. $77k USD. I can't wait to buy it in 5 years when it's half price!
You are not going to get this half-price in the used market dude. Because simply there are going to be a lot fewer than the auto and when it goes out of production in 2026 these just may be future classics with a price over their current price.
So glad they made this. Even though I wasn’t about to go and buy one, it was just upsetting to me that it wasn’t available with a manual; especially with the low/cramped ceiling situation in the Supra. This is a special car, an inline 6 convertible that ‘only’ weighs 3300lbs. The manual gods are smiling down on BMW for this one.
Now you're just dreaming too big. I seriously doubt that BMW would do that, but I believed them when they said no manual in the Zed too. Bring back the two-door hatchback!
I always look forward new videos for contrasting discussion approach between Jacob and Yuri. Jacob focusing on primary issues such as steering and ride versus Yuri focusing on tertiary issues such as rewinding stations and stickers. Always a laugh, especially when Jacob forced to ignore the silly stuff.
I own a 2023 Z4 automatic... so while manual is fun, even the automatic is a GREAT roadster. Nothing beats it for every day use, plus fun use, plus road trips. A good size trunk (better than other roadsters), quiet ride when the soft top is up. So much goodness.
My next car…hopefully. Ticks all the boxes: you get the manual, you can get the Thundernight Metallic purple, and 382 HP. But you never mentioned “Handschalter.” Fail!
Hey Jakub, I think you can program one of the 1-8 buttons to deactivate the gear assistant. Just go the gear assistat menu and press hold for example the number 1 button. Then anytime you press the 1 button, it‘ll activate or deactivate.
I think one of the coolest parts of owning this chassis would be pulling up to BMW cars and coffee meets in "not just another G80 M3 or G87 M2". Real talk so few of these sell, throw some better wheels on here with a proper fitment and you have an easy show stopper
I was waiting for this review - thank you! A bit disappointed to hear that the transmission is typical-BMW rubbery, since I had heard earlier that BMW had supposedly done some work in that regard. But I won't ever complain that BMW put a manual option on a car...I'd still take this over the auto 100%.
Yes, there was an M Roadster in the Z3. Don’t know about Canada, but the story is the same as the E36 M3 in the US. It came with only 240 hp initially, but as the E46 was launched, it was finally given a proper M motor, making 315 hp.
The Porsche 718 Boxster is the only competition with a manual for this Z4.. That's more expensive but also offers superior handling (it's basically a previous gen (991) 911 with better midengine layout).. The Porsche is more of a pure sportscar than the BMW.. The Z4 is more like a luxury GT-cruiser.. And it's a Porsche, just the badge alone makes it worth more..
Back in the 90's and 00's these kinds of roadsters were everywhere - Z3/Z4, Audi TT, Miata, Mercedes SLK - it as was a good time for sports cars and convertibles. This new Z4, even if not perfect - is now really the only one left. The Boxster is a slightly different thing, but obviously the most natural competitor. Still - B58, manual, roadster, not "crazy" money - and way more power than anything from that golden era... It's a cool ride and we will look back on these as special cars, because they won't sell many. I barely ever see new Z4's on the road.
It's over dampened for sure. It for sure doesn't feel organic like the Miata's or S2000's. It feels like it's there to do a job, and not particularly enjoying the job.
Both cars, the Toyota and the BMW share the B58. But the BMW wins the cool-o-meter. My grandmother loves her Toyota sedan, even though Toyota just told her they have to replace her car’s engine, along with 120,000 other people’s engines. Oh-oh, guess the quality control guy at Toyota went on vacation.
The Porsche Boxster is not super comfortable, it is a real sports car. Comfortable compared to your typical track maybe, but definitely not comfortable overall (girls don't like to ride in them as passengers, that is the test)
@@nafnaf0 I have both in my garage (Cayman GTS 4.0, not a Boxter). My wife drives both and the ride is equal on the comfort setting. However, the sport ride on the Cayman is much stiffer than the Z4. It actually lowers the car too! The seats on the Cayman are more comfortable than the Z4 and fit me better.
I know purists won't like this comment because of the previous designs from most of the older models, but I think this looks the absolute best. I've never wanted one until I saw this driving in the streets of Torrance, CA... I also really love the Supra that we're comparing this to
I have been eyeing this car for months!! At first I was thinking about the Supra MT but I do want a convertible that has more power and tech than a Miata
It's a pretty cool car. How often do car reviewers get to roll a real soft-top convertible with a six speed manual and enough power to put a grin on their faces. Hint: not very often.
And because the aftermarket has quite a bit of the B58 floating around because half the BMW lineup has it and the Supra has it as well, there are plenty of aftermarket ready to push this thing 600bhp. Imagine thins thing on 550WHP, some clutch and shifter mods...
Would be so nice if they gave it the circular dual exhausts they used to do. I hate the trapezoids! Something always a little off to me with Z front ends, but overall still looks great. B58 is so fun!
Anybody else think they have not been getting along lately, they seem to be arguing a lot more than usual. Totally get some banter, but this seems more than that.
Porsche Boxster? I'd rather this but that's not the market cornered this is just a good challenge that's not stale. I guess you could say from a front engine perspective it is cornered
