The OneTrickWheel Foamies are a hand-made grip tape replacement for the Onewheel. They aren't traditional grit based tape, but instead a dense textured foam that does a good job of dampening microimpacts from riding, and offsetting the harsh ride feel of the Onewheel GT.

I got so lucky and my gt hadn’t EVER ghosted after hundreds of harsh miles ridden on it… until I got caught in some heavy rain on my way home from work, now I’ve gotta install this new front foot pad and hope it’s just as good as my original one was

I filed down a mm or so of material off of the edge of the rear footpad. Made the harsh edge of the concave much better IMO. I agree the stock GT pads are hot garbage, especially for trail riding.

Love the video. I keep wondering if FM is listening to the community and are thinking about coming out with different footpad options. Wood, Convex, flat, etc. I only got to ride the XR once over a weekend. So the GT is my only point of reference in terms of riding. I also don’t the sharp edges as much when riding because of my size 14 shoe and maybe being a larger rider so far. This is my first week.

Hey Guy with the user error shirt on, I watch your stuff here and there and have appreciated your tire reviews especially. Commenting bc I have 800 miles on a pintx without any “user errors” in the way I’ve been experiencing with my GT. Over a trip to and back from FM, 24 emails, and over a dozen “user errors” some very painful where I experienced full power shutdown over bumps, does this short sound familiar at all. I’m a little desperate after OW said it checks out but it’s still happening, do you have any advice or knowledge on power interruption “user errors”

I actually just received, installed, and rode my Foamies today. I watched another RU-vidr review where he installed them over the original grip tape without issue, I did the same. The Foamies are a nice looking product with excellent fit and finish, no sensor issues, the install was easy. Too soon to comment on ride quality.

Welcome back! An issue with the foamies is water retention. I like the idea of smoothing out the pad's angles, but water getting trapped over the sensor or the battery makes me shy away from them. I didn't know the GT sensor was split up like that. Probably contributed to the ghosting in the first boards. I hope FM gives us a flat pad option for the front. I like concave in the back for control but not in the front.

The extremely high density of the foam was selected to both mitigate the sharp GT edge & not retain water. So the nature of the Foamies is designed for the worst weather conditions.

I saw a GT in a skate shop and couldn’t resist grabbing it. I’ve had it two days and my feet are killing me! I have an XR as well and never had any aches like this. Concave was not the way to go imho. Anyway I was super happy to see this as an option and just placed an order. 🤞

Just installed my Foamies. Grip tape came off surprisingly easy and the install went smoothly (thanks to your video). Could still fee a bit of an edge while doing a quick test in my driveway. Plan to do a longer ride later, but initial impressions are pretty good. Thanks again!

The Foamies have a non-slip tractional surface. Your feet won’t move while under your body weight.

@@KaizenOz pre-recall stock GT. Left the stock grip tape on and heated just a bit and gently lifted with a putty knife with out bending it to much. Have since replaced stock tape also.

What’s your thoughts how it effects ghosting? Do you think its any worst or better than the stock grip tape?

Take this with a grain of salt since we are the ones who developed the Foamies… In certain scenarios the sensitivity of the GT sensor registers pressure when no weight is on one of the 2 zones. The Foamies weigh less than the stock grip tape so they can help a little in that area. However, a poorly performed installation of any grip tape replacement comes with its own set of risks. I’m not sure if any company who sells a grip tape replacement can truthfully say their product can solve the problem of a faulty sensor that arrived from FM with issues. I can tell you the Foamies solve the issue with the sharp plastic edge on the GT. Also, riders who have been using the Foamies are providing us with some really great feedback on how the Foamies have improved their GT riding experience.

What if there was an aftermarket team that developed a grip tape that had essentially 1" of Foamies on the side and front/aft edges (except around the tire well) but grip tape in the center. Best of both worlds?

We’ve noticed that the more layers you add, the more points failure are possible. The Foamies are a single layer, they are dense/durable, the pattern design maintains the strength/integrity of the foam, we have a non-slip traction under a riders body weight & they are precision cut to the sharp edges of the GT’s footpad to take away the sharp plastic edge. So for a reasonable price you can solve the problems on both of your GT footpads.

We have Foamies specifically cut to fit the High Kick, Love Hump & C&R OneTail Flare. Customers have reached out to us on these & we’ve made sure to place the compatible pads in their order. We are working on updating the website so these options are more clear for our customers.

Any reason we can't use a blowdryer to remove the grip tape? I just glanced at the video but I thought the danger is long-term warping of the sensor from ambient heat and humidity, not localized heat from a blowdryer.

We’ve been doing a lot of the installations without any heat. If you do use heat, we recommend not using very much. Our current thought process is avoiding warming up the sensor too much & pulling it away from the footpad. We want to avoid creating any possible air pockets under the sensor. Now on an XR, we always use heat the remove the grip tape. The adhesive & sensor are different on the previous board.

Why not use a hair dryer to heat up that front pad to make it easier to remove the grip tape?

I had a heat gun, but was advised that heating the sensor may also soften the adhesive of the plastic layer atop the sensor.

I thought the same thing as the GT is also my first experience with a OW. I did 17 miles on mine today, and I had 0 issues with fatigue. And I’m flat footed as well.

I've used their foam grip, it's nice. Personally, I find it better for eskates than I do for the GT. A couple of local riders have it, and I spent about 10 miles on those. It was good, I just prefer the ownership experience of the Foamies.

Your also supposed to heat the footpad up to loosen the adhesive on the front because it could damage it

This is not like the XR. The GT sensors are known to be more sensitive. So if you use heat, use it sparingly. You don’t want to loosen the adhesive under the GT sensor & pull it away from the footpad.

There is no way this is not going to cause more GT's to ghost with that tiny bit of weight. Considering the pads seem to get more and more sensitive overtime... I really cant believe that there are good GT footpads when issues start to arise beyond even 500 - 600 miles of riding. Of course I am seeing posts all the time about horrible ghosting. But it really hit me when the one singular person I met in real life had his GT ghost in a parking lot. If I am lucky enough to meet someone with a board like that where I live and that very GT ghosted so far into its life I really have no confidence at all in the GT's reliability.

While I also have little faith in the GT as a whole, this particular foam is lighter in weight than the stock grip tape. I did check.

@@TheBoardGarage there's also the potential that foamies solve the issue. I suspect the GT footpads being concave enable the grip tape to push inwards towards the center and down. I think overtime as you continue shifting the tape around the adhesive shifts too and causes a tension. But that's just my idea I have no clue if it has that kind of leverage.

Just got a GT and my biggest hate is the footpads. They’re as terrible as their wood one for the XR. It’s giving me so much pain in my big toes. I loved the one tail classic rear pad. FUTURE MOTION please make some flat pads for sale. Wood would be a plus.

Concave should be on the back not the front. Because of the concave on the front, stiff sole shoes don't let the board engage. Concave should've been a added item not a default item! Concave isn't even comfortable! 👎
