Beyoncé’s Best Career Decision: Preservation & RENAISSANCE. Reinvention is not the only ingredient in the sauce of attaining a long lasting career. - Preservation. Beyoncé continues to impress with the release of Renaissance. The album sound and overall theme of the underground ballroom scene, House and Groovy Disco shows us Beyoncé is not afraid to take more obscure Sonics and bring them to the mainstream. #Beyonce #preservation #renaissance

Sir, your thoughts on this is spot tf on. And while I always cited Lady GaGa is being the person that motivated Beyonce to switch things up, I’m currently learning how Rihanna was low key that game changing girl too. For some odd reason, I’m not sure Rihanna is fully aware of this. I think it’s bc she was authentically just being herself and slightly rebelling lol but as a result, she help create the next major shift in female pop! Well studied and articulate. Umm, while I agree with this, the way you worded this thought comes off as if what Matthew did to get her to that point wasn’t just as crucial. Note, that traditional rollout the RU-vidr spoke of.. that was Matthew and very crucial to Beyonce pacing herself. It’s the very thing that Chole Bailey is missing and why she’s being currently shelved. It’s important to know I don’t support a patriarchal society but it’s a harsh fact that we live in one. Too much sex and female libration too soon will/can slow the female dominance down. Matthew knew this and legit pushed her daughter into the spaced *needed* for her to then .. ^grow up^ and do her own thing. The story of Beyonce the entertainer is one to genuinely be studied and Matthew is very much an important part of the journey.

The instrumental for Thique was at least 8 - 9 years old by the time Renaissance was released. She also said the tour was in development for 4 years. ACT II is now on its way (3/29/24) less than 2 years after ACT I, so this it’s safe to say the album and its acts were definitely in development for a hot minute. Anywho, I hope she releases a book (and all of the visuals) to accompany the album like she did with Lemonade.

"Church Girl" in my opinion dives into the double standard on women. In church where it's very conservative, women are always told/taught what to do and what not to do. We all know strict religious families where the young men can stray while the women are disassociated or punished more for the same thing. "I was born free" and "nobody can judge me but me" is her breaking and being her own without worry about criticism. It's alot of church girls out there that want to be free, and not necessarily in a sexual way. But because they aren't allowed to go outside the lines without backlash, Beyonce made the song for them. Just my opinion. 😁

I believe Beyonce's career-changing moment happened when she dropped "4." R&B music in particular was in a huge slump in 2011 and really had lost its way. "Many of the bigger "R&B" artists were doing EDM to try to stay relevant and everyone else began to fall completely off basically. Bey used this challenging time in the genre to go left field and I think that move solidified her as someone who creates their own lane in the music industry. Due to her huge following by that point, she was able to push the envelope and the people have followed, anticipated, and listened to her subsequent album moves ever since.

What's crazy to me is how many artists ignored the success Due Lipa had during a pandemic with a pop, dance, light-hearted album, she really dropped that during the hardest time and it's still relevant. We've been through so much, we don't have space in our hearts and minds for introspective albums at the moment. In my humble opinion, right now we just need to dance and sweat our trauma and anxiety off.

Great commentary. I agree I was also not pulled in by the album at first. I also only connected to 'heated'. Then I also felt it was all one continuous song, but when I realised the skill it took to put all those sounds together and meld them into a flow as well as revive so many lost sounds I had to admit there was art involved. After that I kinda listened more and started enjoying 'I am that girl' and 'Cuff it'. Cuff it was needed.

Rihanna has never taken any risk in her music career as far as songs. The best example you could do is anti maybe. But even then she was already collaborating with rnb acts before then. Because rihanna is a pop act. Beyoncé is rnb and she always goes into other genres and takes risk with her albums. Beyoncé has been more innovative with her songs than rihanna. Rihanna has the bad girl image but her music is general public safe. You can’t have both.
@SR-zv5ue
@SR-zv5ue 2 года назад
Agreed and I honestly don’t think Beyonce took notes from Rihanna. Rihanna wasn’t even the originator of that edgy persona. Beyoncé has been doing the edgy thing long before Rihanna, Ring the Alarm is a precursor to a lot of Beyonces trap edgy sound. Same with Diva and those came out before Rihanna cemented her edgy image. Rihanna is just a product and team, that’s it.

Lol Rihanna would drop an album with a sound different to everyone's, which would subsequently become the new main/popular sound, and then drop a new album in about 10 months with a completely different sound, which would then become the new sound of pop. She did this for 7 years straight. Being hurt that Don said Rihanna influenced Beyonce doesn't change that.

Jcole said she has the midas touch, Ed said she can do anything and the common thread is the quality, Kanye said she's a real artist and creative. JUST COZ RIHANNA SUCCESSFULLY PULLS OF A DIFFERENT SOUND/GENRE, MAKES IT HER OWN AND EVERYONE FOLLOWS HER DOES NOT MEAN SHE'S DOING THE SAME THING. She's just that good.

But then, i felt like she played too much into this mysterious character so much so that it became boring, like give me some authenticity- how u reallyyy feel. And also the fans made it annoying with the last few years of hyping her so much that My virgo self didnt want to be hyped up about someone that everyone is hyped up about. Then I noticed a decline and people talking down on her and thought “ok now they see it”. THEN SHE DROPPED RENAISSANCE it was like a “fuck it moment” and she unleashed her inner self and gave us all the glimpses oh her intimate self that I was craving for and it was beautiful. Her authenticity, her rawness and even if she didnt write all of it- just her picking these specific lyrics and delivering them with such raw vulnerable emotions and taking ownership of her “yeah Im THE SHIT” rather than playing the “oh im just shy innocent good girl” presona was everything i needed and more. Rih got confidence from the success of this image but has had to maintain being the 'bad girl'. I think Bey was influenced by Rih from knowing that having a 'bad girl' image wouldn't necessarily be a shortened or career ending move.

What you said about Rihanna I can see whether it is true I don’t know. Beyoncé has always been super careful in how she crafts her art and her image. Her sexuality always walked a fine line between classy/sensual and raunchy. She said that it was the birth of her child that made her think no wait a dam minute I’m still sexy and can still claim my sexuality for myself. Rihanna is just as much of an icon as Beyoncé is. She really did her own thing.
@SR-zv5ue
@SR-zv5ue 2 года назад
No she isn’t, she doesn’t write, she’s not a good performer or singer or musician, and hasn’t done anything ground breaking, not a great visuals artist, you have to be at least one of those to be considered a legend/icon, she just pumps out singles and did that successively to gain traction in a small period of time.

@@SR-zv5ue u got to look at both sides she is an icon due to her #1 in her edm era she does have memorable MV like beyonce hence why they both won Michael jackson video vanguard plus beyonce doesn't always write her songs too as well as many other artists
@SR-zv5ue

@@melissablake4425 I didn’t say Beyonce always writes her material but Beyonce doesn’t really need to because her ability to perform and vocal prowess makes up for her lack of writing skills. Rihanna doesn’t know how to write, perform, or sing well. All the previous icons had one to three of those things going for them. Janet, Madonna are incredible performers and always have amazing visuals. Michael great singer and performer and writer and can actually play instruments. Aretha Franklin talented vocalist. Mariah Carey talented vocalist and writer. Whitney the voice, extremely talented vocalist. The Beatles wrote their entire discography. You can’t say that about Rihanna. She hasn’t don’t anything ground breaking music wise. She has put out cheap hits within a small period to get her name recognition noticed instead of taking breaks. But she hasn’t made a music video that has been ground breaking or a music film, she hasn’t written any of her material. She hasn’t had a single performance that’s viewed as a masterpiece of a performance. Her music videos may have views and she may be streaming well but those can largely be fabricated. I don’t even like Taylor Swift as I find her music is dull and not experimental at all, and she’s only famous because she’s white and blond hair and blue eyed but even she writes her songs. Rihanna just doesn’t have that with her music. She just released a bunch of singles that her team ensured went #1 in a short period of time and that’s it. If you compare her to the other artists who have achieved more than 10 #1 there’s a clear difference in their artistry vs hers.

@@SR-zv5ue some of the things u said there were from a personal point of view which it is hard to argue with as Taylor swift did switch from pop to country which does shows experimental but anyways back to rihanna I do get the point ur tryna say that everything rihanna has done has already been done but describing her hits cheap isn't ideal as she has been in the game since 18 or possibly younger and to uphold her "cheap hits" for all these years and not drop a single/ album in a while whilsts still being one of the most streamed artist in her music career does speak for her self she is seen as icon in THIS generation (pop culture ) especially during the edm era yes beyonce is experimental but its like comparing oranges and apples and hence why each artist has their own style.
@SR-zv5ue
@SR-zv5ue 2 года назад
@@melissablake4425 Switching from any genre to pop is not ground breaking or experimental, it’s literally going mainstream. From a success perspective it makes sense for Taylor to go from country pop to pop if she was set on becoming a huge star, it’s not groundbreaking or experimental at all. It’s selling out. She wanted to have a wide audience and she got that from switching to pop. Also you of course disregarded all the points I made for what other icons are iconic for again perfomering, singing, visuals writing nothing of which Rihanna has achieved. She is largely considered a singles artists, none of her albums are culture shifting albums, none of her songs are either. She maintained relevancy because between 2007 to 2013 she released like 7 albums and kept releasing singles often as a featured artist, she was inescapable and that was at a time the music landscape was relying on RU-vid hits and streaming. She now is a billionaire due to her business ventures not her music and she has crafted a very marketable persona and is light skinned that’s it. If she had taken breaks in the beginning of her career she wouldn’t have been as big, she knew to get her name out there she had to just release a bunch of cheap singles and really promote them to get staying power. She played her cards right that’s it. If you look at pure sales her albums don’t sell well, and she again doesn’t have any iconic performances or music videos or visuals, she hasn’t shifted the culture music wise.

I love Beyoncé, but Renaissance did nothing for me, I saw someone comment on Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia album which was a dance-pop masterpiece and made me dance the night away, but to me Renaissance could’ve been scrapped, and should’ve been done from scratch now Break My Soul was a Dance-pop masterpiece It grew on me, and I love it so much and here’s the thing Bey has a strong voice and can do any genre, and I wish she could’ve done a pure Dance-pop album, with soulful vocals, like the old soul divas (Mariah, Whitney, Donna,) used to do back in the day, and I felt like with the title “Renaissance” it felt like it would be an album of escapism, but instead we got an a album of just different frantic directions, and the same lyrical content sex, drugs, and how rich she is, which I mean she work hard for it so as she should!!!, but that’s my opinion Renaissance should’ve been a dance-pop album I just felt the body of work didn’t live up to it’s title…

I do agree that Rihanna did influence Beyoncé in her but it's an issue the way you trying to downplay Rihanna while giving her credit as Beyoncé downgrading what is a singer. Rather you lile Rihanna's singing style or not, Rihanna is still a singer.

Rihanna is like a #Tboz. When you hear her you know it's her. May not be the "strongest voice technically". But like tboz, her voice sold records. Made songs into hits. Makes ppl ears tingle in a great way. I always tell ppl you don't have to be a powerhouse vocalists to be a great singer. Look at Jennifer Hudson. Powerhouse vocalists. However I would listen to a Rihanna or TLC song led by Tboz on any given day over Jhud lol😅

@@true90skid I get where you're coming from. After all the music industry is about entertainment and like you said, you don't need to be a vocalist to be a great singer, i would day entertainer. However, i would not compare T-Boz to Rihanna because Rihanna, did tried to improve and she did. She has songs who are not easy to sing like most notably Love On The Brain.
