The problem is that Doja Cat mess it up herself,if she didn't went off on social media,scarlet would have been successful as Planet Her. I like scarlet but this is her fault.
Alot of it isn't even her fault, people on social media make up a narrative and believe rumors and it spreads. Also scarlet is a rap album with no features while a big part of her fanbase is pop stans, it wasn't going to do as well as PH no matter what. But give it time it just came out
All she said is it's not for her. She's allowed to not support things she doesn't agree with. I disagree with her saying Doja sold her soul, when none of these artists are making faith based music.
@@No35532 I agree this album should have had several big hits. Especially since she is a well-known artist who has a strong younger demographic. Scarlet album sales weren't that great either. It's not bad, but it's not that good. Planet Her sold 109,000 units / Scarlet sold 72,000 units (first week). But, smaller artists would kill for that many units sold within their first week.
Great video. I believe there is one difference with Doja and Beyoncé, Rihanna and others using dark and “demonic” imagery throughout their careers and it is simply this: artistic intention.
Well a lot of the "Demonic imagery" is just made up in peoples heads so they can start spouting off at the mouth about what THEY believe in and they are usually reaching! That is a huge problem on social media........
I mean I do feel like the demonic or just dark imagery for this album is a lot more overt than, when Beyonce or Rihanna had done it. It looks to me like Doja Cat or Lil Nas X for example making references to the devil or demons is very direct and obvious, they are both dressed like demons in their videos, she's standing next to the grim reeper in her video. Whereas when Rihanna and Beyonce went a little darker, it was a lot more implied, darker makeup, a couple of darker videos but not nearly as overt. I do think the "devil worshipping accusations towards Doja just because people misunderstood her tattoos and the art that she likes was unfair. As somebody who is into Gothic subculture, dark imagery doesn't really bother me much, but I get that mainstream audiences react differently to it. I'm gonna be honest, as somebody who has been into Doja's music since Amala, I lost interest in wanting to listen to Scarlett just cos I don't like being yelled at and cussed at. Artists have every right to express discontent with their older work, and they have every right to set firm boundaries when their fans start acting entitled, but they do not have to be disrespectful. I believe Taylor Swift had a similar issue occur where her fans were trying to tell her who to date, but she never blocked or cussed her fans out, she dropped music and kept it pushing. Nicki Minaj, expressed at some point that she no longer likes Starships or Anaconda, some her most viral popular songs, but she never called her fans dumb or stupid for liking those songs. Beyonce has never cussed out or disrespected her fans for doing to much, she calls out the haters on her songs, and she keeps a tight lid on her boundaries. Maybe Bey is just built defferent cos she did not grow up with social media, but its like you said, the delivery was off putting.
in what way is 72,000 album sales "good" from doja cat who is an established mainstream star. it just shoes a huge decline in interest and support from fans. THAT is a flop.
i mean, it was the most pirated album of the year in 2023. So it’s not that it flopped, it’s that people don’t want to support her. 72,000 isn’t flop, but it also isn’t the best. I would say the sales were mid not talking about pirated sales.

Doja Didn't have to disrespect her fans. I think that she could've done the same rollout and had a more successful album without being disrespect. I understand what she means of her opinion of her own work. Lot's of Black/Brown women sacrifice a lot of their sound just to be recognized. I like the album alot, she just didn't have to go into insulting people. I've been following her since before Moo, so I always looked out for her music. She has had a questionable journey, but her talent superceeds that. I just don't like the disrespect. I loved Planet Her and that's what made me a fan. I love Scarlett as well, not gonna lie. I think Doja will evolve her style, she knows what she is doing and honestly I'll still check for her. The difference is, Beyoncé has affirmed her Christian faith her entire career and Rihanna literally said people are misinterpreting her based on her image, meanwhile Doja is pretending to be demonic to alienate her fans. She's nothing like Rihanna or Beyoncé who appreciate their fans even when telling them to calm it down or mind their business. If Doja thinks she doesn't need fans, she doesn't deserve any.
Doja made an album without much pop appeal. She criticized fans multiple times. She indulged Satan panic trolling. She refused to use conventional promotion tactics. And yet, during this era she has a song that’s spent multiple weeks at number 1, is about to go on an almost sold out tour and will likely get at least a couple more hits from this era. If that’s a “flop”, I want to be flopping 😂. Of course, the album would be doing better had she made an album more like Planet Her or with a bunch of songs like “Agora Hills” and if she didn’t get into so much mess over the past year. But if anything, Doja has proved with this era that no matter what, she’s here to stay if she so pleases. I do hope that there is some maturation going on with her. Because “beefing” with fans and the social media rants got tired months ago.

Having a dark image it's different than offending fans on the internet. Lady Gaga went full with this dark imagery, but she was actually the opposite of Doja Cat with fans. She basically invented the concept of naming her fanbase, the "little monsters", while Doja Cat said she hates that.

I like the album but it's definitely not as good as the group think is trying to say it is. There aren't any classics, iconic songs = or music that'll frame a moment in time, nor any feel-good/ play at a party or club type song. Great bodies of work need to be inclusive. I still like it tho. Love Agora Hills. As for the persona, yup, she went too far but she'll recover. The general public loves her and once this era passes, she'll be officially seen as a leader in hip hop. I don't think she deserves that just yet but I will not act like she's not a solid Artist.
