It's crazy. when I first discovered this channel back in 2011/2012, I hadn't even met my wife yet. Now I'm a dad, and seeing Jamie with his newborn just reminds me how far we've all come. I'm glad Sorted Food has been so successful and shows no sign of slowing down. it's been an great part of my life for the better part of a decade.
This chili recipe is such a dad recipe! My dad and father-in-law have a base chili recipe and they add whatever we have in the fridge or pantry. It changes everytime haha! They have arguments about who's chili is better or spicier or meatier and etc. Btw! Cute Kid, Jaime! Congrats on the new addition to the family!
Biologically, Tyrone is his offspring. Technically no more, since Ben traded him in the black market for his chef's knife with a sprig of mint as a souvenir cuz the "Meatman" saw his fetish about mint right away.
Its tyrone they have been teasing him that he has a child name tyrone since maybe 2012 or later or earlier than 2012 but he doesnt its just an imaginary child
it just makes me emotional to see how far these guys have gone from just learning recipes off of Ben to cooking up a storm im just gonna cry in a corner. P.S. Finn is a really cute baby 💗
Ammu Parvathy it’s our British sense of humour, don’t worry 😂 my cousin turned round to my aunt and uncle when he was three and his little brother was a week old and said “I’m bored of him now, can we take him back to the hospital?”
Ben eagerly taking over cooking so he doesn't have to deal with the baby is incredibly relatable. A few years back I was over at a neighbor's house while her daughter and baby granddaughter were there. Everyone except me was having a blast playing with the baby and I was just awkwardly sitting there wishing I were anywhere else. Thankfully, someone asked for help with their computer and my immediate response was: "Oh thank God, something I know how to deal with."
Omg Jamie is so me when I' in the kitchen 😂 I literally jog around looking for anything that I think would go well with whatever I'm cooking just to build up on flavour, also smoked paprika is a hella good shout, it's what I had in mind when the question come up haha 💯👌🏽
This is one of my favourite videos by you guys! Loved getting a personal insight into jamie’s life and seeing a different perspective on his cooking. Also Finn is incredibly cute 😍
This series is so wonderful. It feels really nice to be actually in someone's home. Such a beautiful environment and so comforting. It feels less like a cooking show and more like time spent with family ❤
I love love love the idea of having a base recipe and throwing things in as you feel like it. I have a recipe and my mom and brother found it so great that they're always asking me to make it when I visit. It surprised me when I first made it because I didn't think they would love it as much as they did. Also, absolutely adore being able to see Jamie's family~ It sometimes shocks me when I recall when they first started out because the years don't seem to have passed that quickly!
Chili and cornbread are my comfort food that my grandpa makes. He’s from the south, so it’s legit southern chili and cornbread in a mug with milk. Hahaha yuuummmm
ahhh Jamie you seem like a great loving dad! So much love shown when you first explain the crying of your baby in background and that it s been cared for by your wife and then when you shown him later on...allmost melting from so much cuteness in your baby and you radiatong love and care, and being a proud Dad.
Con Carne was my go to dish as a Uni student and still my fav dish after 7 years. I love how similar I am to Jamie when making it, I literally chuck stuff in too. But mine my staple uses the beer I'm drinking instead of stock, cinnamon cause it's so good, and pickled jalapeños.
Bushyman477 i do not want to use ketchup or worcestershire cause i dont like it to sweet or vinegary. Beer sounds great! Thanks! Anything else you can recommend? Sorted said red wine or tomato puree but to me that start to look like lasagne sauce. They also did ho that im not familiar with. We do have it in my country tho.
I normally use a packet mix con carne because its cheaper per weight than individual spices, but generally same spices they used with options for oregano and paprika, I'll either chuck in a whole can of tomatoes and the beer or more beer and some fresh tomatoes, literally any type of beans, cannellini kidney black lentils chickpeas (they just take on the flavour of what you cook), if you dont like ketchup or Worcestershire you could go standard meat stock or even add splash of soy sauce and omit the salt seasoning. As they said, I don't really have a recipe, it's just what you feel like and what tastes good - there will be certain things that don't work but just remember those haha
Bushy raps - in the UK if you get your spices from the right place, or buy in bulk It's about 20% of the price of ready mixed packets and better quality.
I like to layer up the spice with a yellow or green scotch bonnet, dry chilli powder and maybe a dash of chilli sauce, the heat kicks in at different times
Awwww Finn is so adorable - its amazing to see such another side to Jamie so different to last week! Made personal are my favourite type of your videos.
That's one cute baby. Also, whenever I cook chilli, I always add smoked paprika for a smokey flavour and cocoa powder for depth. Really lifts the dish up!
I tend to serve it with either spiced rice or toasted bread. Also, I like to slowcook it all for a few hours. Definitely going to try that cornbread with it next time!
I loved it because it reminded me of earlier videos that were more about cheap, quick, student food. You should do more of those again. Cheap, quick, filling stuff that has all the nutrients you need for a day of school or work.
Marleigh Curran try the cooking part first. But definitely do it. Make sure you do have adults arounds just in case. But learning to cook never hurted anyone. Im glad i did learn how to cook when i was a kid. Im 23 atm and teaching it too others.
I'm a kitchen sink chilli maker as well. Pro tip for parents ... add some sneaky veg with grated zucchini, sweet potato and carrot. I always do mine in the slow cooker so it gives all that plenty of time to break down and become hidden. It's a good inexpensive way to stretch your portions too.
that is...a VERY different cornbread than i've ever seen. granted, i'm from the southern US, so the way my family makes cornbread would naturally be very different to yours, but the way we've always made cornbread is cornmeal, egg, milk, baking soda, and sugar, and then you bake it like you would a yorkshire pudding, i.e. you essentially fry it in the oven. it always comes out pretty sweet, so we don't usually put any kind of vegetable like sweet corn or onion in it. i feel like i'd be scalped for that...
Southern boy here also and yep, crimsonlilyfairy, my family makes it just like yours. However, I would not be adverse to making one like Ben's and trying it. But I'd be whupped if I tried using the regular cast iron cornbread pan for it ;)
This 'Made Personal' series is kinda like you having your colleague to cook your family's dinner for you in your home on company's time and money. Digs it
Minus the cornbread not being Jiffy Corn Mix, this is my favorite Made Personal y'all have done thus far!! Think I may have to make this for dinner some time this weekend! Great job Jamie on an easy chilli recipe!
Sorted and babies are such a great combination!!! Finn, Evie, Olly, Tyrone.....😍😍😘😍😍 Also it's amazing to see through these Made Personal videos, just how far you 'normal' boys have come as cooks since you started. Now I wanna see Ben and you guys give cooking lessons to kids!! Also chucking whatever's there in the fridge and try to bring good flavours out of it, is my style of cooking. GO JAIME!!!🍖🍺🚬🎷
Oh I loved the recipe being led by Jamie. I would love to see more of the guys leading the recipes. Poor Ben, it must have been so hard not to ‘help’. And oh my such a cute bubs!
No worries, Jamie. This is the way I've been cooking for 30 years! Use the recipe as a base guideline and then use whatever else is in the fridge or cabinets!
Jamie is the British version of my husband: goofy, sweet, funny, meat-lovin', & a great dad AND the first dish he made for me was his infamous Looper Chili, which is pretty much what these guys just did but with snausage, mushrooms & red bell peppers & the kitchen sink. That kind of man is a keeper!!!
My family adds sweet corn sauteed with bell peppers, gives it a kind of sweet tex mex crunch, which was perfect when we were kids and couldn't handle anything spicy.
Marjani Howard, he said she *could* go into labor because Mike and Barry were hoping she would since Jamie had the Minnie Mouse dress on-it was the grilled cheese battle. I can't imagine him calmly cooking for a video if Lucy was actually in labor.
I've been going back to watch older videos, hence why I am commenting on a year old video, but a bit of dark chocolate in chili is amazing! I would say it's effect is subtle, but very good!
This looks delicious! Adding random sauces found in the fridge is a student hack of mine! I'd love to see SortedFood doing some Polish food in the future 😍
So I made a combination of this recipe and their ultimate chili con carne try it recipe and my chili came out so amazing. Def one of the best chili’s I’ve ever made so thank you sorted. Your videos are amazing and I can’t wait for more.
I just made chili! I finished everything, put it on to simmer, came to watch some videos and this was in my subs. I really appreciated the "it's definitely not Texan because it's got the beans" comment. Next time, try it with a chuck roast or pork butt. It's so good!
tip for good southern cornbread: pour a bit of oil in the bottom of a cast-iron skillet and heat the skillet in the oven until the oil is hot enough to fry a bit of cornbread batter you throw in. pour in the batter and then bake. it gives a wonderful crispy bottom while maintaining that soft center.
This chilli is my staple since i saw this video, took away from jamie just adding whatever he thinks go's wel with it. So easy to make and absolutely delicious
