Since its first edition in 1907, Milano-Sanremo has marked the turning of winter into spring and the start of the much-anticipated ‘Spring Classics’ season. This symbolic transition from winter to spring has earned the race its popular Italian nickname ‘La Classicissima di primavera’, or ‘The Spring Classic’. Who will pick up the first monument of 2022?

Mohoric trained over the winter for this race, set up a special bike with a dropper seat post(heavier), and planned to attack on the DESCENT. Brilliant.

@Ross Somewhat, most bikes aren't that much below 6.8KG with disc brakes and aero wheels, also you would prefer the weight to be close to the bottom bracket. Of course this weight change is negated by lowering your own weight with a dropper seat post for the descent. It would be interesting to see if riders would use a smaller frame and longer seat post to have more drop in the future.

@@Alex-to8es I believe they tested one with more of a drop and found it was better with less drop because he could pedal better with it down so went with 6cm not 9cm.

This may be the first documented win with a dropper seat post in a UCI race! Again, Mahoric is on the leading edge of technical development. Has the UCI banned it yet? LoL!

@@spennyfumepipe Correct, it gets the saddle out the way making it easier to shift bodyweight around when decending. Very common in mountainbiking

Thats a good idea !!!..i use one on my Mt Bike the last few yrs and they really do make it much safer while im bombing on the downhills !

he had to swap the aero bike with a more conventional one as long you are not ahead of the pack, it's a great option. I wonder if the manufactures will start include dropper post on their aero bikes. UCI will, most likely think about to ban it, since this could lead to another arms race -but this is just the result of the super tuck ban...

@@Andi_ch perhaps more likely on climbing bikes. You don’t need a dropper on flat stages, and some climbing bikes are already way below the UCI weight limit and need to add weight anyway. Plus, it’s plug and play if the bike has a conventional (round) seatpost, so manufacturing is easier

This race is won or lost in the descent of the Poggio. Don't know why it took so long for someone to bring along a dropper seat. Pro road cycling is definitely a conservative bunch. I can definitely see now the launch of a "Specialized San Remo": an aero Venge frame with an integrated dropper seat.

He pioneered the super tuck pedal technique when he used it to win 2013 u23 worlds, which is now banned. Casual cycling fans think froomey invented it. Now he pioneered the dropper post which will probably be banned.

Hi Andy. We had two different feeds for the race. The race with the live show was the one with English commentary. We've been made aware that this was a bit confusing so we're going to try and simplify it for the future!

I agree he got some help. Happens a lot. But, he still risked his life, displayed God-like skills going down, and dropped two of the greatest bike handlers to ever ride the road. What are your thoughts, should we give him a pass on the drafting and call it good? Thanks for pointing it out. I think the UCI needs to put a little tougher restrictions on the moto-cam guys. It would be so easy. I'm a film director and I could give them 20 camera/lens set ups to choose from that would put plenty of distance between the bike and the rider and still give them close up images. Get with it UCI.

@@jamiepaolinetti5087 The first part of an attack like that is very important. The riders behind would have still had his draft if he hadn't been dragged away. At those speeds, the motorcycle punches a big hole in the air. It was an exciting descent and he took a lot of risks and I certainly can't blame him for taking advantage because I do think he recognized it, but I don't want to be wondering if he would have got away without that motorcycle.

One thing i notice... Jumbovisma ineos and other team check team UAE to prevent pogajcar to launch long range attack,, thats why in final kilometers other team take the advantage then bahrain take over... For sure it is preparing for tdf for all the team.. They know how to check UAE.

I think this way: when rider depend of himself its easier to solve teh situation. But when he is in "Allez Opi Omi" or "Colbrelli's stay away" like situation, then there is a god's will.

Mahoric could have been caught in the last km but the big boys would not work together to reel him in - probably because they feared a bunch sprint on tired legs
