Temagami Canoe Trip | July 2020 | Part 4
Day 5-7 of a 7-day Canadian wilderness canoe camping trip in Temagami. We wake up on Florence lake and set off towards Solace Lake, tackling 10 portages along the way. We deemed the first 1200m portage "The Bog Slog" (you'll find out why) and this was definitely Jessica's favourite portage of the trip (not!). We had a gorgeous site on Solace, except for a few unwanted guests... The next day, we set off on our shortest day of the trip, setting our sights on Paul Lake. We enjoyed our last full day of travel before heading back to our car at Gervais Landing in the morning.

For many reasons, I like your videos. No inane chatter, just fun comments. I don’t like most accompanying music but yours is good. Beautiful shots. Thank you.

Awesome series Matt! Excellent job on the map animations too. You've got an awesome tripping partner in Jessica....very tough to soldier through this on her "fifth" or so trip especially. Cool to know that you only encountered two groups in July...dig that!

@MattHaughn 3 года назад
Thanks! I find the map to be one of the most important parts so extra time in that is worth it 👍 She puts up with a lot! This trip was 100% her idea though so she couldn’t complain 🤣 She said the next time we got to Temagami, we will be taking it “easy” (I doubt that). Two groups of people but many more groups of flys!

Awesome series! If you had to do it again... would you do it the same way? or counter-clockwise???
@MattHaughn
@MattHaughn 4 года назад
Great question! Going in reverse would maybe be a bit easier but the couple portages going from Sunnywater to Smoothwater would be very difficult going basically straight down hill. You could run white rock rapids too which would be really fast as opposed to slogging up it. I think either way it’s a hard trip! But the other way might make things easier.

Temagami is a quite different forest than say Haliburton & Algonquin Park....much more rugged with many windfalls. Thanks for taking me along on your great adventure I enjoyed it. Look forward to the next one. Jessica is a real "trooper" lugging that canoe over endless km's....Cheers BTW. I shared your Florence Lake and the cabin footage with Camper Christina as she had just been there a bit before you....

Awesome Matt! Thanks for sharing your trip in Temagami. Jessica was a trooper and you both did well. Temagami is definitely a step up from Algonquin. Happy to hear you'll be back. As an fyi, the campsite on Solace that was high up has a crazy story for me. Maybe one day I'll share it with you. Look forward to your next adventure!

@MattHaughn

She never had an issue with portaging the canoe but many times when I stopped paddling, we did circles and she wasn’t too happy about that. Me talking to myself and her doing all the work!

Hey there, great video! Would love to see your gear and pack list for the one bag technique! We’ve never been able to decrease our gear to less than two bags - help!
@MattHaughn
@MattHaughn 3 года назад
I’ll have to get back to you on the list but our general rule is, if there is space somewhere, fill it. Space in between the pots in the pot set, put your cloth or glove in there. We also use compression sacks for clothes. We only allow 5-10L of clothing for a trip. We fold our tent, roll and tie it tight to save space. Also, if you don’t need or use an item every day (except for rain and safety gear) don’t bring it. You will get it all into a bag eventually. It just might take some time to find the right configuration.
@backcountrydna5120
@backcountrydna5120 3 года назад
@@MattHaughn ah thanks, yes, I suspect our clothing 😂 Compression sacks are the greatest - we pack everything in them! Happy tripping!!
