Bike Riding At Night (Rio Hondo Bike Trail)

-I DO NOT SUGGEST GOING RIDING ON ANY BIKE TRAIL THAT IS NOT WELL LIT SOLO!
I had poor timing which is why I had to take the trail (to make my trip shorter/faster).
However, if you do plan on going down there for whatever reason, I highly suggest the following:
- SUPER BRIGHT LIGHT (I personally use a light with 800 lumens (highest setting) and I refuse to go anywhere without it. Has kept my path lit for some time now).
- TELL SOMEONE WHERE YOU ARE GOING AND WHAT YOUR ROUTE IS! (this should be automatic along with a super bright light, lol).
-IF THERE ARE OTHERS WHO WANT TO RIDE, YOU'RE BETTER OFF AS A GROUP THAN SOLO. (I ride alone a lot and have for some time, but in many cases, I'm happy that I wasn't alone and in case anything happens, the other has the others back)
-TAKE IT SLOW! (believe it or not, I almost fell off the side of the trail this very night on two/three separate moments that aren't seen in the video because lighting was poor and my speed was a little too high, lol).
-Lastly: BRIGHT LIGHTS/ROUTE PLANNING/SOLO OR GROUP RIDING WILL NOT REPLACE COMMON SENSE. (I'm not one to tell anyone what to do or not to, I've had my fair share of poor decisions, lol. But if you plan on going on the trail, just remember the above, but if you can find another route that has more well lit areas and possibly safer (even if it is a slightly longer distance) I personally suggest doing that.

Someone stole my light right off my bike on the LA River in Cudahy. What pissed me off, besides that the light was a gift from my brother, was that I had 30 miles left to ride in the dark, especially on that bike trail, which has no lights. And then I saw a coyote.

I know exactly what section of the trail you’re referring to. I don’t typically head down into that section of the connected trails, but I know all the trails now have a lot more sketchy wanderers. Sucks you lost your light at one of the worst possible times (night time), especially on that trail. There is virtually zero light out there unless you’re passing nearby industrial areas, and those sections are far and few, and for 30 miles?!! I think I would have chosen the street instead of the trail at that point, lol. This video was recorded on some of that same trail, and I almost went off the trail into the riverbed on two sections (it’s hard to judge turns going fast at night). Hopefully you get another light (amazon got some good ones for cheap and ebay as well!). I also recommend having a spare tail or front light when you can, even if it’s a flashlight with a rubberband attached, you never know. Safe riding out there and thank you for the story!
