EDM is the worst thing to happen to dance music in years. You walk in to a club and every song has that piano thing he was doing at the start. Then you have to lie to yourself that you're enjoying it just because you want to meet women on the dance floor. If you know the right place to go you will hear the Dj's playing the best music and it just seems a shame that they don't get the same exposure.
there are more sub-genres of EDM than all other genres of music, there is EDM that you wouldnt even believe is made with electronics. it will never die.
LOL Bill is my fav comedian. And I actually produce EDM (+many more genres). But these DJ's are killing it these days, they make amazing money. If Bill likes EDM my life is complete.
I would LOVE for the 90s to come back, but I seriously doubt that will happen. Mainstream music in the 90s was too good. The Movies and TV shows of the 90s were too good. We are never going to have another decade as good as the 90s.

From how I see it, this type of music was already in the 90's it was called "techno" didn't click, re-branded in early 2000's "house music" still didn't click, now they're calling it "Electronic dance music" and its a big hit....
I was a DJ for a while before I started bartending and stock trading, and made a good amount of money doing it. Its easy as fuck. Its just time consuming. You get a perfect song in your head and by the time you get even a 10th of it made you fuckin forget the rest. I remember sittin on fruity loop studio making a song, got 12 hours in and only had 30 seconds done. Next day had no idea where the fuck I was going with it..
Just keep at it man. It took me a year of fucking around to finally make a song from start to finish. Been making music in fl studio for 6 years now and I think my music sounds decent.

Yes, EDM stands for "electronic dance music", but the real definition is assigned to the commercialized big room house that came around in the late 2000s, which is where the EDM acronym came onto the scene. Sometimes the literal definition of something doesn't always constitute what it actually means. For instance, we think of a tank as a big military fighting vehicle, but the literally definition of tank is a water tank, which is what it was mistakenly called in WW1 since people didnt know what the hell it was. Get it angry child?
Trust me...go back to the 80s and 90s and you can find that strange point in EDM where the artists were pushing into experimental and new territory...there's been plenty of experimental electronic before and after this point, but that was a golden phase where it was more or less entirely underground and not at all commercialized. Chemical Brothers, Orbital, Prodigy...those are the bands that sort of brought EDM into a mainstream light, although it was still very much under the radar. Who do we have to thank for sparking the underground electronic movement in the early 90s? Chicago DJs from the late 70s and 80s, who were predominantly black. What you're seeing today is the equivalent of the gap between 30s/50s southern blues/folk and the waves of white artists that appropriated it into mainstream culture in the late 60s/70s. Nothing changes really, except now technology has permitted for a whole new level of musical sleaze that was once unimaginable. Either way you cut it, these half rate "DJs" you hear today are usually just playing tracks and beat matching with Ableton live. Yawn.

A few things to mention: People only get the surface of EDM when they don't listen to it - it's a huge genre and there are plenty of talented artists that put their heart and soul into it. That 'real instruments' argument is the dumbest thing, and people who make it are morons. If you don't like it keep it to your fucking self.

5,000 people attending a show is nothing compared to 1000 people feeding their life savings into a slot machine. Unless the casinos start selling molly, it's hard to see how they can make their money back. What good is a hot 25 year-old in a casino that slurps up all the free drinks and spent their entire life savings on the trip down there? It's the old guys who can drop some cash at the tables.

Is this stuff really so new to the US? It's been big in Oz and Europe for decades now (in sort of waves), but there are US DJs that have been active for a long time (Armand Van Helden comes to mind). I'm not really a fan of the music so dunno a great deal (though don't mind a little hardstyle), but I thought it had been established in the US for a long time now???

Bill Burr is the best, lol EDM is here to stay for sure, though. There is a "genre" for Everyone in electronic music. Its like rock or rap in regard to the abundance of styles. Its an entirely new category of music that has been building since the 90's and now with the growing innovation and technology for sounds, this shit isn't going anywhere...

I love metal, certain types of hiphop, and some EDM. Sure, it's more challenging to play an instrument, but let's be honest, it has it's limits. It's all been done. I'd rather see these EDM guys making money than another fucking Cyrus or Bieber.
