God damn could Bill sound any whiter with his chirpy, Mr Rogers-esque rendition of “M.E.T.H.O.D man!” It was like one of those early 90’s black guy/white guy comparison jokes that were all the rage back then.
“2:52 cassette tape” lol I can see Bill cruisin with his windows down in his 84’ Olds Cutlass supreme with the windows down and the stereo up all over town.
i mean tbh i get it because I get stupid, I mean outrageous. stay away from me if you're contagious, cause I'm the winner. no, I'm not a loser to be an MC is what I choose-a
Rakim the God mc .....Follow the leader greatest 5mins in the history of hip hop .The golden track of the golden age ....And what a bass line .The production is off the scale. ...33 years old but absolutely timeless ☺
Shows u all u need to know.... Classic cul-de-sac kid who discovered black people in his 20's... married a black chick and now things he can talk s*** about every white person ever.... He even slipped once and referred to himself as black... it was hilarious.
These docs dont mention where these break beats come from often though. The samples used are as important in shaping the breakdance culture as the songs and artists that used them
Enter the 36 Chambers was what got me into hip-hop I was in the third grade and when I heard Enter the 36 Chambers it blew my mind I had already heard a bunch of other Classics but Wu-Tang definitely made my Puerto Rican ass a hip hop fan and when Ol Dirty Bastard came out with the return of the 36 Chambers became one of my favorites it's a damn shame he signed with Roc-A-Fella Records and they were feeding him drugs basically to stay in the studio and record that very day he died he was scheduled to perform in New Jersey at The Meadowlands where Wu-Tang was scheduled to perform I purchased tickets and went but I was skeptical that they were all going to get there and when I saw every single one of them except all dirty I was surprised that most of them made it but the whole crowd was chanting Ol Dirty bastard's name it's too bad that at the very moment he was in Rockefeller Studios and that would be his last day alive it's a damn shame because you can really tell he had a heart and he was a good dude but he should have never signed with the Devil AKA Jay-Z and Roc-A-Fella records shit Nas didn't like Jay-Z for a reason that SOB can't be trusted and one of his business partners is a big-time snitch that works with the government bring a few people and organizations down
For me it was groups like M.O.P and Hieroglyphics who showed me that not all Hip-Hop sounds like bling bling Soulja Boy xD It might not give me the same adrenaline rush as Pestilence or Demolition Hammer but that's also not what I'm listening to them for.
Haha, I was always surprised that it seemed that Bill wasn’t very familiar with Wu Tang if they popped up in conversation. I guess he just didn’t want to mention it
Only Hip Hop, puts a shelf life on artists. You're 30, you're done. Sad. I grew up with all kinds of music but I gravitate more to Hip Hop. To Add, RIP Patrice O'Neil. He and Bill were boys.
Rakim's legacy should be taught in public schools to serve as a contrast for what passes as hip hop today. Don't get me wrong, top flight lyricists exist today, but they are overshadowed by pale, comedic, imitations of good hip hop. My generation's appreciation of Eric B and Rakim, BDP, EPMD, Slick Rick, Special Ed...then into the 90s with DeLa, Tribe, WuTang, NAS, Gang Starr, Tupac, Big, Mob Deep will always travel with me.
I don't think you can say OLD SKOOL without mentioning Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five's 'The Message'. That is what blew my mind after exploring Brian Eno, The Sex Pistols, Kraftwerk, John Foxx, The Flying Lizards. I caught The Message, and is just so STREET! Malcolm McLaren then capitalized on the rap/hip hop revolution with Buffalo Gals - even putting the beat track on the right side and music/vocals on the left. So anyone could just flip their balance full right - and rap and jam their own shit. Then Public Enemy hit the scene - DAMN! I liked the frilly fun stuff like Sir Mix A-lot and Tone Loc and Maestro Fresh Wes. But PE was more lethal than The Clash IMHO. And then when this 'gangsta' stuff started coming out, and no more groups like Naughty By Nature or House Of Pain, it just became dumb to me. "Fuck me baby, cause I got the gold! Don't be trippin' like my fish gone cold! I put my 9 to your head, bitch give me some head. I paids my money and you're completely sold!" - that shit can do something? I feel like a 4 year old reciting 'Doody ca-ca, I made a poopsy. Smell my finger.'
