Last year, Bill C-16 was introduced to Canadian legislature, presenting the implications and effects of adding gender identity and gender expression into Canadian hate-speech law. Sarina Singh hosted the largest address on this topic of its time in Canadian parlance to discuss the issue of gender pronouns and compelled speech which received national and international attention when the infamous videos of Dr. Jordan Peterson were released. In them, Dr. Jordan Peterson raised concerns of Government overreach and compelled speech with regards to the nature of how this bill was worded.
Bill C-16 has since been passed, but what have its real-world effects been in the year since its passing? Distinguished panelists discuss the application of this new law, what the science says about sex differences, activism on university campuses and how they influence journalism and freedom of speech.

I was happily employed as a security guard at the Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Headquarters in South Portland Maine for over a year. Then one day I received a call telling me that I was terminated because someone "felt uncomfortable" around me and not to bother to show up for my next shift. I had never so much as looked at another person there without respect. I was never told who it was that felt that way or why. I lost a half year's wages until I was able to find employment elsewhere. This person's 'feelings' were enough to lose my employment. These kinds of actions based on feelings rather than on facts will destroy our society.

@@chevchelios3904 Not a waste of time, it's going on throughout human history, 2018 might as well be 1718 or whatever. Good line I saw in a comic somewhere: "People who remember the past are doomed to watch people who forget the past repeat it." There's a never-ending cycle of the same underlying problems in society; after this event several "dominoes" fell, and at least in Ontario, there is new provincial legislation requiring higher-learning institutions to adopt free-speech policies. I call it the Sarina policy. :)

"Children should not be used as pawns to further this agenda."Respectfully, Dr. Soh - that statement of defiance should have earned a rousing standing ovation in that lecture hall. That it did not, reflects on how far we have fallen, and causes me to ponder what further descent is in our future.We have, in the past 40 years, evolved into a society completely obsessed with child protection. Yet curiously, we acquiesce so easily to this threat. One need only talk to an honest trans , and hear their story, to know that no-one with a conscience wishes this dysphoria upon another.Transgender is an entirely different thing than transtrender. For the sake of our children we need to know the difference.
@craigk281
@craigk281 5 лет назад
I don't see the evidence for a propensity of child protection. The studies I have seen show that in America 80% of parents hit their children. They often start hitting them before they are even toddlers and it is completely legal - but of course you can't legally hit your wife who might actually have a fighting chance. I've also seen studies that have found anywhere between 1/3 to 2/3 of girls are sexually abused before the age of 18 in the UK and US. Every day I see parents giving more attention to their phones than to their children. Even though the west has come a long way the west still treats children more like second class citizens or slaves. And it's why we are tearing our countries apart. It's terrifying that children have been removed from their parents and given sterilizing, cancer-inducing medications with no hope of return in sight. As a mother of 2 this sickens my stomach. Where is the outrage?!?! Are you telling me most Canadians are OK with this? As a Christian I strongly disagree with this indoctrination but in most cases I would not advocate taking a child from their parent. I would hope to educate and dialogue to open their eyes. My children are myself. This would not stand!

ErinCM TheMC in the UK people are frequently turned down for these operations as whether an operation is undertaken is based on a psychiatric evaluation. It is frightening, but psychiatrists are well aware of the issues and of the consequences of such drastic actions on mental health long term. Psychiatrists are not going to be blasé as actions have consequences and judgements will be made with respect to their professional practice hence why so few operations go ahead in the UK any way. Unless someone is intersex, this will not be happening to children.

No one is more sexist than trans ! Just look at how they portrait the opposite gender. I have seen my mom who is at her late 70,s once or twice wearing lipsticks through her whole life. She doesn’t wear makeups. She was a young widow and has always been a widow. She raised 4 kids by herself. A man thinks he’s a woman by putting on massive makeups, revealing outfits, especially outlining and exposing big breasts, which my mom has never once portrait herself to be even when she’s young and is all they think being a woman is just that. So who is actually sexist ? That’s all they see in the gender that their minds think they are instead of how their biological bodies present or the fact tells.

Nah, this isn't a judgement on the sex they're transitioning to. A good number of transexual people also suffer from borderline personality disorder. In essence, they're just trying to be the center of attention. Furries often exhibit the very same patterns. If you need an example in action. It short, while being a negatively stereotypical transgender behavior, it's not directly related.

@tiqqun333
@tiqqun333 5 лет назад
Well, the extremely femme and overlyproduced stereotype you try to portray all trans girls as isnt always the case. The problem is that, with this, their dysphoria may be questioned, they dont seem "passing" enough to many and this is something that affects them a lot in their daily lives. And, they usually have to try harder in looking "femme" than the average woman, for obvious reasons. Also, im not saying your personal experience isnt valid, but ive seen cis girl with lots of makeup, revealing outfits, and with heavy and noticeable plastic surger (and thats ok) as ive seen girls that dont show off so much, or that are more simple. So, then again, i dont really know whats the point.

In my 33 years of life I haven't felt the need to explicitly stand for or against anything. Popular opinion and supporting legislation just seemed to flow in a direction that felt right to me. If compelled to take sides I would say I lean towards the left in general. This is the first time I have felt the need to actively oppose social change. I'm turning to media such as this to educate and prepare myself for the inevitable time when i'm compelled to use a transgender person's non-binary pronoun. Some would say this puts me firmly on the alt right, but I argue that it is the centre line that has moved to the left.

Scott, just be aware that the term Alt-Right was invented by Richard Spencer to describe the push towards white ethno-nationalism and the construction of a "pure" ethnostate. This includes due effort on the JQ, the Jewish Question, association of *Jewish people* as a whole with a conspiracy to undermine and destroy the White race and European civilization, so Jews can be masters of the world, a la Protocols of Zion (actually copied from a book by Maurice Joly). That's a jump like from voting against Hillary Clinton to adopting the idea that elite Lizard People and secret Illuminati are ruling the world.
@iain5615
@iain5615 5 лет назад
@@gg_rider alt-right was a way of referring to fascism which is actually leftwing authoritarianism. However, leftists call anyone who questions them as alt-right, bigoted fascists as well as racist, white-supremicist, mysoginistic, homophobic, or anything else they can think of to shout people down. It means the vast majority in their view fall into these categorisations and the terms no longer have the real horrendous meaning they used to have. My fear is that real fascists, who openly declare themselves NAZIs, will be taken lightly as people will no longer associate the term with what it truly meant.

As a 35 year mostly trauma nurse and paramedic, we have a tendency to cut clothing off as one of the first things we do after checking airway, breathing and circulation. Then we are stabilizing and checking for injuries. I have seen one patient that was possibly born intersex, with a enlarged clitoris. Thought nothing of it and went on with treatment. At the time I can guarantee she was not worried about it as she bled to death internally. I listed her as female. Just dress how you want, call yourself what you want. I'm sorry to say I'm part of the problem by being one of those people who brush an issue aside when it doesn't affect them. I've stayed silent on these gender issues that I didn't even notice how much of what I thought was tolerance was actually me trying to convince myself that I actually believe in this ideology. Here's what I really believe: I believe in science, the kind that backs up facts and not someone's personal feelings. There are only 2 genders. And thank you Dr. Soh for confirming that I'm not crazy when I didn't agree with people who told me to believe that gender is a social construct. It's true, facts are getting confused throughout schools and kids who should be probably out in the playground are worrying about what gender they are. What always amazes me, and really warms my heart, is that every Western and Westernized society is going through this. Very few (Westernized) societies can say "it's not happening here". Surprisingly, what has developed is an international camaraderie amongst those of us who perceive and oppose the situation. I think we used to be embarrassed to say this was going on in Canada, but somehow feel like we are not alone when the Australians, or Americans or Swedes or Koreans report the same thing in their societies. I've noticed that nobody ever says (as they used to) "well that's typical for you stupid [fill in the nationality] people". And they seem to be just as aware and engaged about the issues that arise in other people's countries as they are about issues in their own. I don't know exactly what it signals, but there is a new common divide in societies around the globe and it doesn't fall exactly on the old Left/Right spectrum.

Thank you for posting this symposium in its entirety and unedited. i wish to offer my deepest gratitude to the speakers, organizers, and participants. In the process and discovery of balance, it is inevitable that the pendulum will swing from one extreme to the other. This is a fundamental component to the nature of learning; which cannot be denied. But, the severity of the balancing process can be eased by not spending too much time in one extreme or the other, losing sight of and connection to the opposing extreme. It is a mind opened to learn and willing to discern which allows for ease of movement and insights gained testing extremes. If one has stood in each extreme at one time, one hopefully knows the extent of those extremes and the balance point. i pray that, as individuals of society, we can heal the pains in our hearts, so we can return to the collective of society with an open heart and able to listen completely. And in the spirit of all being human beings, we can respect everyone without tearing down the foundations of society, such as free speech. May we quickly find the balance!

Awesome , I've bee waiting to see this . These are conversations that need to be had to equal it's volume with those who seek not to support Bill c16 . I Had to post this video to someone when they said Bill C16 doesn't say what Jordan Peterson says it does . I've heard nothing back which must be a good sign right ?

Thanks to the publisher for this video. This one is very helpful. Especially that here in the Philippines the identitarians have passed a law concerning the same case about the transgenders. This video equipped me to formulate my criticism and judgment better on how to debate the identitarians.

More scientists should be brave like dr.Soh and speak up about scientific facts there are only two genders. What kind of society are we living where people are afraid to tell the simple truth and speak about their opinion cause they don't want to loose their job.

@@robg4472 It seems that you didn't do any of research or even watch the video. The woman in this video is presenting her as neuroscientist. Just click the link for it in my previous comment that I provided for you. Yes I copied one of many infomations that she is neuroscientist. Do I have to display here all the videos, articles and info of her where she is presented as neuroscientist? Or do you think all of that informations of her on the Internet are just lies and conspiracy theories? I encourage you to do more research than wikipedia. She have her own yt channel too. Take care! :)

@blue... 5 лет назад
@@robg4472 She have a PhD in Neuroscience. That makes her a neuroscientist even she is working as full time journalist now. There is plenty of informations on the internet that backup that. She is just getting started so there will be many more. So from logical point of view all of these informations are just lies, or they are true. In this video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7zZY6DihWkg.html) she is speaking how trans activists go after sex researches if they don't like what someone study says or what they say publicly.
@blue...
@blue... 5 лет назад
@@robg4472 Ofcourse. I doubt that any scientist would publish something that goes againts scientific research. If you can provide any scientific evidence or research that doesn't back her up, please do. But that is another subject. You were discrediting her credentials as neuroscientist.

Morgane Oger, VP NDP : "Anyone that states that transgender woman is not a woman is guilty of hate speech." Oger is hell bent on making into laws his "identity" politics; he recently lobbied members of the CPC party to persuade them into his views. We who value science and free speech must fight back against this utter insanity.

LMAO when Jared responded to Sarina's comment 1:11:13 "aren't lawyers supposed to be intelligent people, shouldn't they be objecting this....." by scratching his nose with his middle finger. To the question "when did the gender issue blow up?" Females have been dealing with this shit for decades and centuries. In the past all feminist movements battled sexist stereotypes, while trans activism entrenches sexist stereotypes. In the 90s, a male named Kimberly Nixon dragged the Vancouver Women's Rape Relief Shelter through the Court System, and the women's music festival in Michigan have been embattled with the trans crowd until 2 years ago when they were finally shut down by males impersonating females. But yes, it's only been on the public's radar recently. But before Jenner, there was Janet Mock and Laverne Cox and Jazz Jenner and Chazz Bono.
