Late Night:
0. November 15, 1984: Bumped. Its inclusion here will become clear towards the end of the collection.
1. December 5, 1984: Bill's network television debut. Stand-up and quick chat at the end of the show.
2. August 22, 1985. Stand-up and quick chat.
3. February 13, 1986. Stand-up and quick chat.
4. September 12, 1989. Stand-up.
5. December 26, 1989. Stand-up and talk with Dave.
6. June 12, 1990. Stand-up and quick chat.
7. October 3, 1990. Stand-up.
8. September 4, 1991: CBS airs "Survival of the Funniest" on "48 Hours." Bill Hicks is profiled in one segment as he prepares for his Late Night appearance on April 25, 1991.
9. April 25, 1991. Two segments on Dave with the "48 hours" crew, then Bill Hicks' stand-up.
10. March 26, 1992. Stand-up.
11. October 27, 1992. Stand-up and talk with Dave.
12. March 19, 1993. Stand-up.
Late Show:
13. October 1, 1993.
A. The saga of Bill's censored stand-up begins with an interview on a cable access channel in Austin, Texas. It was taped in late October 1993 and shared by mitch0cumstein. The link to his upload is here:
• Bill Hicks on being ce...
The November 1, 1993, New Yorker profile to which Bill refers can be found here:
www.newyorker....
B. Bill's mother Mary Hicks guests on January 30, 2009, and, over fifteen years later, Bill's banned stand-up finally airs. Dave mentions before her appearance that Bill's Late Night debut occurred on November 15, 1984. That was actually the date when he was bumped.
C. Portions of the edited Late Show as broadcast on October 1, 1993. Bill Hicks' stand-up was replaced with Late Show writer Bill Scheft's from the August 26 shakedown show. Bill Wendell had left for the evening, so Dave handled the Opening Announce, taped at 11:25 PM that night, ten minutes before air.
D. Portions of the original, unaired Late Show as taped in the late afternoon on October 1. Included are Bill Wendell's opening announce, Dave's unedited intro, Bill Hicks' stand-up, and a brief chat after his performance and at the show's end.
Bill passed away nearly five months later on February 26, 1994, of pancreatic cancer.

Didn’t agree with everything he spoke about however he actually seemed to care about things which is better than the hoards of people that abuse the innocent for no reason and otherwise slump into a state of extreme apathy and/or to go 360 to extreme permissiveness and have no courage to address what is happening… so in favour of people caring about things..

They can't have people thinking they can go around spreading the news... People might start getting ideas. Ideas like we're all one, there's no such thing as death, that life is only a dream and we're the imagination of ourselves. They may even begin to believe that one day, we could dare to dream of being free and then the clear and noticeable campaign to keep us stupid, docile and apathetic would lose its power. Just imagine what that could do the economy! I mean, how they gonna keep building nuclear weapons if we realise we're all one? John Kennedy, John Lennon, Martin Luther King, Jesus... Hicks. They had to be nailed to the cross, to stop anyone else thinking they can deliver the news and try to make us see the fucking prison we're living in. RIP Bill, another dead American hero.

(Gut feeling) There's a lot of unspoken dialogue seemingly going on between Bill's mom and Dave... (mostly from her) about how hurt Bill really was and maybe how it contributed towards, expedited, or made even more bitter his demise. I think Dave was aware of it, and danced around it a bit, but ultimately did the right thing. @Don Giller made the faithful edits as a historical full context, as full as was aired/unaired, even including the Public Access appearance and the raw WWP tape for context... I wish they had an award for Don Giller for the way he handled the last parts of this collection video... he was accurate and honest to Bill's memory and to what really happened as an editor. Keith Richards, Mick Jagger, John Lennon, Yoko Ono, and the like are sufficiently well known that there are about a thousand and one jokes circulating about each of them. If it was 1994 when Hicks passed, and John Lennon had died over a decade before that, John Lennon's death was not really "topical" from a current events standpoint. In addition, I don't think Denis Leary stole either the "John Lennon Assassination" bit or the "Keith Richards Lives (Jim Fixx)" bit **directly** from Bill Hicks. Robin Williams has dipped into those jokes, too, and Eddie Murphy sampled the Mick Jagger's "big-ass lips" joke which might have originally been mentioned in Richard Pryor's routine. It's the persona more so than the jokes themselves that could be said to be a rip-off. On the other hand, if the apocalypse really is an event where Keith Richards and five cockroaches are left, there will be no one left to argue about who stole from whom anyway. Peace out!
