Saw Michel at the Blue Note in NYC years ago. Sat right behind his piano, got a photo with him after the concert, wonderful and talented man whose skills I can only dream about approaching in my life time.
Never heard so many sounds come out of a piano in my life. It sounded like a whole band up there. Just about the best piano duet I've ever heard! Thanks for posting this.
@@prufrok I’m sorry. From now on, I will respond to music only as you see fit, and not in accordance with my own perceptions. (Seriously: were you born an asshole, or did work hard to become one?)
outstanding. Hiromi as always ruling the piano and Michel having so much fun. A jazz standard I’ve listened a million times, yet by far the most entertaining performance ever!!!
I really enjoy "watching" Hiromi Uehara because she is always so happy when she plays, it's contagious. Of course, her extreme talent and unique style are nothing less than amazing, but that big giant smile is what wins me over every time. 💝🎹
Wish they had a continuous split screen on their faces! (Can you imagine playing opposite Hiromi - no disrespect Michael - you had me with Caribe! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LcxZXxlOFx8.html)
This is one of the best versions of Charly Parkes Blues "Billie`s Bounce". Hiromi Uehara and Michel Camilo inspire each other and interact perfectly with each other. This is real art and something like that only exists in jazz. Unfortunately, the video was temporarily unavailable. Presumably for copyright (i.e. commercial) reasons. But Charly Parker made music history. Jazz musicians will surely improvise about his compositions in 300 years and therefore his compositions should also be available on RU-vid during the current corona pandemic.
I mean, yeah. But I think people own recordings. You can make your own cover, but this one belongs to the people who made it. That's my understanding anyway
Charly, Charlie. Parkes Parker. Whatever. He spelt it right in the 4th line, every other word too, with only a couple errors of syntax. Herr Bitter, ja, er hat in seiner Schülezeit seinen Englischunterricht gut gemacht, glaube ich.
Thanks for posting this! I just discovered Hiromi and was comparing her to my all-time favorite Michel Camilo then I ran into your video. It was great to see them together!
@@riggmeister she is a classically trained concert pianist who went to America to learn musical arrangement - that is where she was introduced to jazz - there are videos of her doing her exams as a very young girl and rattling of Beethoven etc
@@riggmeister i managed to see her solo the other year - it was absolutely breath taking and mesmerising and she seemed totally taken back by the reactions - she becomes one with the piano - if you ever get your chance its a must not miss event
Vermutlich wegen urheberrechtlichen (also kommerziellen) Gründen.
I was trying to find the right adjectives to describe this performance, but I think they have not been created so far. However, I think there is no need of any words, just feel it, and let your soul talks.
8:42 I love it when people stick that Gershwin in but I wish they would "bend that melody" which would drive the audience nuts since they already know what's coming after 4 notes.
I clicked this video hoping to hear some really good music. Ended up listening to two people having a wide range piano conversation. They just kept talking back and forth, back and forth, switching from one topic to another so much so that I forgot what they first started talking about.
Quite a contrast to the Barron/Mehdlau take, and their messages and conversation were of subtler nature that's beyond my hearing ability , but I rather believe they just somehow missed the opportunity to respond and converse musically ........but these two certainly didn't. Maybe Hiromi and Michel heard the BarronMehldau duet and said "let's NOT do that". I think the slower tempo was also a better choice for the duet setting.
Find yourself someone who looks at you the way Michel Camilo looks at Hiromi. On closer observation - maybe don't. Holy fuck that's one intense, soul reading, knowing exatcly what your going to do in the next second kind of stare. Freaks me out just a little bit.
@@WojtekPoroslo I see. Can you name and share link to videos of woman playing jazz piano? US and Worldwide? Can you name more than 5 good female jazz pianists that not just play memorized arrangements but are good improvisers and played and "sideman" with others? 5 in all history of jazz
@@reacionario2026 you've missed the point, again. if you watch for gender when listening to music, you're not listening to music. this is like judging the content of a book by the kind of paper it's printed on. go and this time actually listen to the music from the video above. after that if you think yourself better judge at music ability than michel camilo, chick corea or anthony jackson to name a few, then we're not discussing music here, but something else entirely
@@WojtekPoroslo maybe I'm not as dumb as you think and maybe you're not as smart as you think. Did I really miss the point? Can you name 10 contemporary jazz female pianists? Do you have audio sample so I can do a blind test? Man and woman are so different. Not better, but different. No woman dance as cool as Michel Jackson or Bruno Mars. Likewise, no man dance as sexy as Dua Lipa or Taylor Swift. It's biological. We are so different starting from completely different DNA structure. I'm not saying better or superior. Just different. And jazz improvisation is very masculine...
@@reacionario2026 You're posting this under a video of a genius improvisation by a duet of literally some of the best jazz pianists ever. At this point I'm no longer sure if you've watched it only muted. You couldn't have picked a worse example to make your point be it either that women are worse jazz players, or that there are fewer of them or that jazz is inherently a male domain. Her music disproves two of the above and as for the number of women in jazz: it's been changing steadily for some years now, too slowly until very recently maybe because of still too many morons out there. I wish you a merry time raising your future daughter
