He did the Marc Maron podcast where he told the story about the medication side effects, but it was Marc Maron that came up with the "guy in vegas with an erection" joke and said that Billy could use it
The best raconteur of all time no one can spin a yarn like he can. And no one can make people laugh like he can. He just makes the world a better, brighter place to be.
I recommend you watch the reruns of Head of the Class (1986-91). he replaced Howard Hesseman :Dr.Johnny Fever" from WKRP in the last season. Billy was hilarious & serious as the new teacher.
watch the story where he talks about having sex with girl, where he gets stuck in a sleeping bag and they both throw up inside it, one of the best stories ever
He was in a folk band called the Humblebums and they say that his comedy simply grew out of how he used to talk between songs. I guess that's why his style seems more conversational than the vast majority of other comics.
+Jordan Betts and that's the way to do it. it's almost like staring death in the face and telling it to bugger off and bug hime some other time! he's the man!
Seen Billy on the Television awards the other day. Horrible to see him so motionless. It looked like he had to really concentrate on what he was doing. Best person to ever come out of Scotland. What a man!
That man,has been through a LOT in his life, yet he is very optimist and extremely funny, something i greatly admire. The strength of his will is simply amazing!
Jon Klein I am not American and I don't know what you mean with "Hill billy accents", but I personally find these "old-timey Southern/Wild West accents" you hear in movies awesome! For example the people in No Country for Old Men, or The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Just saw that recently, LOVED the accents there!! It sounds somehow intimate, poetic and raw, all at the same time! Love it!
I think Billy laughed a bit at 2:09 because Conan set him up beautifully for the medication joke. Billy was probably wondering how to work it in...and then chuckled because of how easy it ended up being due to Conan's setup. Great. Only this master of comedy could make light of his own disease. One of, if not the best, jokes I've ever heard.
I love he took a role as Dain Ironfoot, his accents fits perfectly as dwarf, he was such a badass along with his loyal Dwarven warriors, I really enjoyed his battle scene.
That was the best part of the movie when he came running down the hill with his army and spoke. I had no idea he was going to be in it and I almost creamed my pants.
My favorite comedian of all time and I had the pleasure of meeting him when he was shooting Journey to the Edge. You couldn't imagine a nicer person to meet. I asked for his signature and he said, "I thought you'd never ask."
The great king Dain II of the Iron hills... No but It's good to see that he can still joke about his condition because Parkinsons is very serious and could also cause you depression.. Stay well Billy!
I saw him last year in Perth Australia. I feel very privileged to have seen him at this stage in his life. You do notice he's gotten on in years but he still managed to have everyone rolling with laughs.
Compared to his 2012 interview on Conan, Billy he seems so much smaller and quieter, frail almost. I hope he keeps going strong in everything he's doing.
Billy Connelly played the baddest @$$ dwarf in all of middle earth history! Love you Billy!🥰 Thank you for decades of joy and laughter.🤣 Adventure ever on my friend, Phat🎸
Just saw the Hobbit and the best part was Billy Connolly as Dain. Never heard of him before but now I find myself becoming a fan. Holly shit his voice is badass! You scot's have a gifted actor!
Jason Kaiser You're so right, I watched my poor father wither away with Parkinsons, it's terrible. I've seen Billy 7 times. My all time comedy hero. :)
Phyl Renshaw well my father has parkinsons disease also, but the main thing that he does with Parkisons disease is that he has good humour about it. I mean he is not going to be able to do the same thing as he was used too, but he is the same person, my grandad also had parkinsons, but i never thought of him to have it, i just thought that he was old, cause he was so lively and willing to do things
Karl Gustaf Ah my grandfather had it and it really took a lot out of him, so that was what I was basing that on. I guess I shouldn't assume it's the same for everyone.
Definitely. Never wrote a joke. Said he tried to but couldn't. His whole act was just him articulating his thoughts and explaining how he saw things through the beautiful comic prism he viewed the world.
Alot of the things in the movie that arnt in the book are taken out of Tolkien notes... he didn't make most of it up, Legolas was added because he is around during the time and his father was in it.
Eh, I guess I don't mind Legolas' fair face, but I hate how he cut out so much of the cool stuff about Beorn, and I can't stand how he added the ghosts to the cave in Return of the King. It was an eery part in the book when they were following in the dark without being seen, but the scene with them in the movie was cheesy and annoying.
tSGtGaming Nothing that Peter "The Jewish Dwarf" Jackson added to the movie comes from Tolkien, that's just a big hoax. Everything that Tolkien left now belongs to his son and he will never sell it to Jackson, since he realizes how much he butchers his father's work for money.
I haven't seen billy Connolly in a long time but within first few seconds of this I could tell there was something off with him, definitely appears slower. Great guy
***** This person down the street is someone i do not know, Billy is a person i not only know but care deeply about. And if you have nothing good to say to a man that has done you no wrong then go frakk yourself.
***** I'm interested to know what money has to do with it? Do the rich not suffer with their illnesses? At the end of the day, regardless of *who* he is, he is human and he is suffering. He deserves as much sympathy, respect and concern as anybody else.
Gareth James yea, Parkinson's is a bad disease but by far not the most horrific one. Many people live with it for a long, long time. It's hard to see them go through but not the end of enjoying ones life. It's good to know there are people like your father who do not dwell on it. My sister has Multiple Sclerosis, unfortunately this will preclude her from enjoying anything about the latter years of her life. This has led her to realise that she needs to enjoy life now while she can. I think what will happen to her scares me more then her.
Joe Robinson Look up the symptoms of parkinsons, full on parkinsons is about the worst it gets, sorry to hear about your sister though, good to hear shes happy.
Dont try and make this some fucked up competition mate. But these are some of the full onset symptoms of parkinsons: Muscle tremors that start in one area then slowly spread to other parts of your body, you eventually get regular muscle cramps and lose the ability to move your limbs/body. You lose the ability to move your face and get a fixed expression of nothing. You become so dizzy even if you could walk, you would fall over constantly, you get eye problems, being blurred and double vision and struggle to move your eyes. You get bladder and bowel problems and get have trouble sleeping, getting batches of insomnia. You struggle to swallow and lose the ability to speak and struggle to communicate. Your whole body aches with pain. Im not saying one thing is worse than another, but parkinsons is definitely one of the worst things out there. The fact people live with it for such a long time in cases makes it even worse, as you slowly lose control of your body and mind.
"Good mornin'! How are we all? I have a wee proposition, if ye wouldn't mind giving me a few moments of yer time. Would you consider...JUST SODDING OFF?!"
***** His whole face looked cgi to me. Why even put the poor guy in makeup and prosthetics at all when he might as well have just come in one afternoon and done a voiceover?
I saw the movie knowing people had said he was in CGI. I couldn't see that. He was definitely there, and he wasn't in CGI. What the hell are you and others even talking about?
Tugg Speedman I saw it in 2D. Maybe it was only apparent in the 3D version then? Could be. :/ Though, from the one time I saw a 3D movie, I thought it blurred out the details (which was the first Hobbit movie actually).
For everyone wondering billy connolly wasn't cgi in the movie he was actually in makeup it just appeared that he was cgi because of the grey filter that was in the movie.
I'm still a bit miffed that Jackson didn't have the Dwarves and Elves send at least SOME FORCES to Minas Tireth for the battle of the Pellanor fields. Even a bumbling idiot could have surmised that if Gondor fell then it would only be a matter of time before the rest of Middle Earth fell as well. Yet Jackson has the Elves just running away and the Dwarves doing absolutely NOTHING at all.
Debonair Damsel what, like real world leaders do so much in trying to prevent terrible things from happening when they know about in advance? Denial is powerful. :)
***** and I guess he was sympathizing with this amazing man who was just diagnosed with a terrible disease and wanted to show interest in his story more than making the audience happy this time! and this actor is such a good sport by making fun of his real struggle, way to go!
Debonair Damsel Well, the Dwarves were actually fighting a war in the North at Erebor and Dale against the Easterlings. Besides, Jackson didn't make the story, Tolkien did,
Billy will be the first person to overcome cancer, and Parkinsons. Mark my words. And if early onset dementia rears its head Billy will have his way with ya! I'm sure of it. The pants I'm not so sure of
"I was on your show and meet a doctor who suspected I had Parkinson's Disease.". "Wow.. So basically you were on this show and meet a doctor who suspected you had Parkinson's Disease"? Wow... quite intuitive Conan...
This is how normal conversations go when shocking information gets revealed though. It's natural to want a repeat confirmation when something shocking is said. This is actually an example of Conan showing social intelligence, cause he doesn't just gloss over it like it's some normal thing he told him, but instead shows the information was shocking to him.
***** Well... Conan just does it all the time.. with small things as well.. I guess it is better than saying nothing.. Not a hater though. Just realized that he does it all the time. Kind of cute ;)
So very sad that he has been struck by Parkinson's. It was because of that that he wasn't able to portray Dain Ironfoot on screen and was actually all CG. He still voiced the character, though and the voice made Dain Ironfoot a badass dwarf! Bless him for his continuing sense of humor.
