Dennis can`t talk. It is cringeworthy trying to listen to him... It takes him 5 minutes to get a sentence out, and he might start crying... I am not making fun of him, just watch him speak. The alcohol fucked his brain up, and who knows what else.
Except this isn't at all the story that was told in Last Dance. In episode 3 there was a story about a Vegas Trip midseason (48hr). In episode 10 there's a story about Rodman's trip from Chicago during the playoffs to Auburn Hills w/ Hulk Hogan. Corgan must be talking about game 1 and 2 in Utah.
Different story. Billy's story about Vegas was in 97 when the Bulls first faced the Jazz in the finals vs Dennis' story about Vegas was in 98 midseason when he needed a "break". Both stories Phil Jackson was pissed.
Except if you look at the actual timeline you know that Dennis Rodman didn't ever play a prime Shaq, and that he was at his lightest (50lbs light of the 370 Corgan puts him at) during Rodman's last year, which was certainly past Rodman's peak. Good story but it's certainly embellished. Rodman was a freak but he wasn't picking up someone weighing 250 at a bar with one hand.
hilarious that Billy Corgan, a certified rockstar in the 90's, was such a groupie to Dennis Rodman. He still tells stories of Rodman to this day as if he was in awe of him. That's awesome!
He used to play baseball, but he's a bigger wrestling fan than an NBA fan, but then again he lived in Chicago during the Jordan era so that made everyone a basketball fan in Chicago
At arguably the height of his popularity. I witnessed him at an event after it ended he took care of a fan in a wheelchair. He sat by himself for about three minutes when a young man approached him in a wheelchair. Just him and this guy. Dennis stood up greeted him. Pulled out a jersey and signed it. Had one of staff come back in and take photos with the guys camera. Then he sat back down and talked with the guy. I don’t think any of it was planned at all nor staged. I had access to the general area but was maybe a 1000 feet away roughly. It told me though he was a kind person. This happened in 1996. But it was a really nice thing to see. I know he didn’t do it for any other reason than he was deep down a caring person. Just a little true story.
Dennis used to hang out with some guys I knew early in his career here in the Detroit area. He was quiet then and he seemed to be a nice enough guy. He was a phenomenal athlete for sure.
I met Dennis once at Roccos Tacos in Fort Lauderdale where he frequently ate. He was a nice dude but he was trashed that night. Made an interesting evening considering he was sat right next to my table. This was in 2011
@@prettyhtemachine surprise surprise just looked at the one comment time I had to respond to after all thiis years it is from an hour ago. I mean WTF. Stay strong anyway.
Rodman was really into grunge and alt music so he hung out w/ a lot of these guys so I believe Billy’s stories. Eddie Vedder also tells a similar story of flying to Vegas with Rodman during the 98 finals I believe.
I remember that year because I'm a Jazz fan. Jordan had the flu and we still couldn't beat the Bulls. Now I can add to that shameful story that Rodman was partying the whole time, and we still couldn't beat the Bulls.
@@Jugglenaught1980 Naw, they delivered. There was one hotel where visiting NBA players would stay. Michael and others ordered a pizza. They said 5-6 guys came to deliver it and everybody thought that was weird and decided not to eat it, outside of Michael. They did not know the pizza was for Michael, they just figured it was someone on the Bulls. The NBA covered it up, as to not scare players. It is talked about on Last Dance and Michael's strength and conditioning coach Tm Grover has been saying he was poisoned for years and there was no flu.
Best rebounder of all time. It's pretty demoralizing for the other team when Rodman grabs 10 offensive boards and can kick it back out to Jordan or Kerr for an open shot.
I met Rodman at a party once. He really is a cool guy. I was walking out as he was walking in and when I saw him my jaw dropped to the floor and he noticed it and gave me a big smile and introduced himself. I got him his first drink and sparked a joint that he took some puffs off of! I’ve got an amazing picture of me with a joint in my mouth and a drink in my hand looking like a toddler with Rodman’s arm around me!
That's an amazing memory. Happy you got that moment dude. I'm a late boomer to the NBA and it's "lore". In my opinion, out of all the players I've learned about Dennis is by far the most interesting and intriguing person.
I was always a Rodman fan when he played, but he won my heart as a dad when I saw him break down over his daughter and his kids in an interview. After that, nobody could ever say anything bad to me about him.
To everyone who commented.. I thought it would be clear that I was talking about how much he helped in relations with North Korea, not basketball.. that is what they were talking about in the video.
I've seen a lot of people on multiple videos talk about how amazed they were with Dennis Rodman because he would work out after games and said he was an energizer bunny. I remember when he was with the pistons he was doing an interview and he said he worked out after practice because he had really bad asthma so in order to play 40 minutes in a game he had to condition his body to play 80 so he didn't tired during games.
Hunter Thompson, Peter O'Toole, The entire rat pack, Wilt Chamberlain etc etc etc. But yeah. Ok. I'm sure there are some women humans who have lived it as well.
I always talk about how insanely underrated Dennis strength was. If it wasn't for him the Bulls don't win the championship in 98. Karl Malone was 260+lbs as a PF & Dennis handled him physically and mentally. Let alone his basketball IQ & Rebounding Skills
Nautilus1972 big time...for example when you're on defense and your in the paint you box out your player from getting a rebound for example...another example of basketball IQ is when Michael Jordan went for the steal before hitting the game winner he left hornacek his player & went to Dennis and Malone who had the ball Malone was posting Dennis so MJ knew he had a quick window to strip Malone before Malone seen hornacek open to pass or him to shoot MJ realized it and got the steal. Dennis also was amazing at knowing where to be without the ball. That's basketball IQ my friend something this generation players lack big time in a lot of other sports too
Did you even watch the Finals? I did. Rodman was passed his prime in 98, and Malone was scoring on him repeatedly in that series. Malone averaged 25 points in that series, and 11 rebounds. As oppose to Rodman who only averaged 8 rebounds.
Your a moron I watched each game live. MJ even said "If it wasn't for Rodman guarding Malone I don't know what Phil have done off the bench with Scottie hurt" Rodman got inside Malones head every game. Game 6 he had him taking technicals (both stumbling in the 2nd half scuffle) Rodman was past his prime and still held Malone down. That's how amazing Dennis was. You must be from Utah. After MJ hit the shot he went up to Dennis and gave him a hug and put his hand on his face telling him thx you. Watch game 6 replay near the end of the timeout huddle after MJ hits the shot
I think Kim Jong Un can speak better English than most people realize. Attending an International School in Switzerland means that English is at the very least proficient.
No it doesn’t. The last dance makes more sense if you’ve ever known a shred of info about Dennis Rodman. None of what these guys are saying is surprising.
This is one of those cultural things that people have really different opinions on. Expecting that people greet you when you are in the same place and say goodbye to you when you leave is a form of social control. It comes from childhood when parents, rightfully, control the comings and goings of kids for security reasons. I never understood why people try to do that to each other once they grow up. Must be a pecking order thing. Obviously, Dennis Rodman doesn't have to submit sh!t to Billy Corgan.
Super Rich people roll this way a lot .. In Restaurants especially.. they just walk out , even with a group of people , , because the Owner knows them, and they know the Accountant just gets a BILL and pays it ..or they have an account paid monthly.... Rich people dont hang out and say Goodbye, or wait for the Bill ... its something only us Schmucks who no one recognizes have to do or else the Cops will come ..
Same experience I had when first hearing Corgan in interviews in the past. Extremely balanced, nice, genuine person, and very intelligent as well. Add well spoken to that list too. Talented beyond words, his unplugged he just did this week on some show live, I forget which, blew me away.
People love to hate him because he has opinions and is not shy about sharing them. Even he admits he's not always right...but he talks and likes to shoot the shit. Young retards disslike him because he rages against the mass corporate whore media and music industry and these retrards copy and paste what popmusic and idiots tell them.
I love this guy. Listening to his music, voice songs and talk stories you name it. Profound. His songs are ART. CULTURE. Cant get enough and on Joe. 2 all time greats
I met Billy once 1on1 in Vancouver, I asked him to signed my Pumpkins record, As I extended my arms. One with a pen, one with the record. A bird shit on my arm, Billy said "hey that's good luck", then he walked into the venue without signing my record......
I use to love watching Dennis Rodman’s highlights. This was when I use to play a lot of basketball. It’s crazy how he went into the hall of fame by literally just rebounding and playing good defense.
I kinda... yeah I love these stories from Bill Corgan. And envy him for being in that bubble in the latter part of what was one of the greatest sports dynasties... the Bulls of 96-98
I heard the story of Rodman going to Vegas in between finals games and a teammate had to go and fetch him. I did not, however, know it was none other than BILLY CORGAN he was hanging with. Just insane. Two guys I would never peg to be bros. The story of him ditching him and going to North Korea next day is also golden. There is only one Dennis Rodman.
Corgan is fantastic. Howard Stern's interview was epic as well. Went to a concert a few years ago and he played all the most popular stuff in the beginning then let everyone know the end of the concert would be for mega fans who wanted to hear music from the new album. Class.
Rodman is a surprisingly emotional guy and it makes sense that Billy would mention him being in tears. I've seen him get all misty eyed several times on television and his documentary: "Dennis Rodmans Big Bang in Pyongyang"
As someone who has lived in Michigan my entire life, I always knew Dennis Rodman as one of the Detroit Pistons "Bad Boys" along with Bill Laimbeer and Isiah Thomas. In the late 80's and early 90's they were known for being the dirtiest players in the NBA, they played super rough defense and would even intentionally hurt/injure other players when the referee wasn't looking. They were sort of seen as the villains of the NBA that everyone feared at the time because they were basically playing football on the basketball court and winning championships. I remember both Michael Jordan as well as Larry Byrd doing interviews where they talked about how much they hated the Detroit Bad Boys and how badly they'd get hurt on the court. I remember seeing Rodman get super famous in the mid to late 90's and being like "that guy used to play for my team" lol.
I lived in Chicago same time as all this was going on! I hung out in the VIP at a few different clubs in Chicago and Dennis and Billy were always together partying. That is was the height of the Bulls with Rodman,Jordan, Pippen and we won 3 peat! I am so glad he said that it was such an Awesome time back then....bc IT WAS Fucking awesome!
I met Rodman at the Gumball rally when they stopped in Dallas. Dude was super nice, someone tried to start a fight with him over nothing in the elevator we were in. He defused it in like 10 seconds. I don't know him of course, but my hour or 2 of hanging with him was pleasant.
I dmed billy corgan one day telling him how his song today gave me the motivation to get a very important job to me. And he liked my dm that was and always will be a great moment in my life. Billy is a great man
Billy Corgan might be the most underrated rockstar of all time. It definitely didn’t help that he came up around the same time as Kurt Cobain who would become the biggest rockstar of that era. Billy is a musical genius.
He definitely is. He said he's still got hundreds of songs unreleased as well. It's hard to believe that the foo fighters are in the hall of fame instead of the smashing pumpkins 🤦♂️
He definitely deserves it more than fucking Obama did. And Rodman's comments about how nobody in the Obama administration gave a fuck about making peace with NK is very telling.
All I know is he played the basketball and had crazy hair. Vaguely remember seeing a video of him shaking hands with the leader of North Korea as well.
I remember seeing Dennis play in Cleveland. The Cavs are playing 2 7' guys at the same time. Rebounds would bounce up in the air and Rodman would out muscle them for the ball. They would sandwich Rodman, and Dennis would knock them away. One of the damnedest things I've ever seen.
I’ve known Dennis Rodman for a very long time when I was a manager at crowbar nightclub in Chicago he brought so much business to the nightclub and of course we had our personal good times but I can tell you one thing about Dennis Rodman if he gets some sleep and he doesn’t drink he will play a shitty game I’ve never seen anybody gets so drunk and out 24 to 48 hours without no sleep and gets 30 rebounds 25 points in a game I just can’t understand this guy but the good thing about him is that his best when it comes to his worse that’s probably the best Line I could ever say about Dennis Rodman, He’s very sensitive he’s very emotional very very shy and he’s a very humble man I would always love Dennis Rodman we had so many great memories together and trust me I’m a nobody compared to him maybe he never treated me like I was a nobody
Dennis doesn’t see the world like we do, he has no cynical bone in his body, he sees peace and togetherness in everyone, he just thinks others think like him, it’s a beautiful thing and I wish we were all like him, the world would be a much better place.
WOW!! Great stories about Dennis Rodman!! Rodman just had that spectacular work ethic plus was such a student of the game on rebounding that based on studying various players could often predict where the ball would be on a miss to get the rebound. Never knew that while he was able to play so hard also had the energy to party hard as well.
Billy talking about Dennis working out after games has been told by other people as well. I've read stories that he'd show up before the game eating fried chicken and other such "unhealthy" foods and be doing exercise bike throughout post-game meetings and such. He had incredible stamina.
Muhammad Ali went and visit Saddam Hussain when Saddam had American diplomatics as hostages then freed them due to Muhammad Ali. So Dennis Rodman can be a hope
Billy kind of reminds me of myself. I was in a band while in my 20's and nobody in the group could understand why I was such a sports fanatic. They could have cared less but like Billy, I lived and died with Orioles, Colts, Wizards, etc...could tell you all the players stats and followed all of them religiously. All in the same time of recording music that was very much Goth/Metal, dressed in all black, etc.... The paradox was beyond hilarious.
