Eddy's guitar playing was right there on par with Billy Joe's lyrics around this time. An awesomely badass combination, I don't care what anybody says. The four greatest words in music, I don't care what genre, are "praise the Lord, guitar." Once you heard that spoken, your ears were about to get blown away with the best country and western guitar playing that's ever been.

Eddy had a great tone. Does anyone know how or what equiment he was using? Also is this the fender he got from Dicky Betts, that was one of D Allmans guitars? Also what did they do with that guitar after Eddy passed away?
Yeah, that single guitar phrase is a ripoff of "going down" but there is a ton of guitar work here that isn't at all like that song. It's also much better playing in my opinion.

The late great Eddie Shaver on guitar! Also, this demonstrates that Christian music can be cool. It doesn't have to sound like Up With People or something that induces sugar shock.
Not a week goes by that I don't think about Billy Joe and Eddy Shaver. Eddy was gone before most even knew he was here, it's so sad. He was a great guitarist. If you're doing Herion or the other pain pills, please give treatment a chance. It's not only what you are doing to yourself but others who love you may never get over you od'ing. Just ask any of Eddy's friends.
I think Billy Joe was an honest man. He writes from his life and his heart and soul. It takes a lot to do that. You could live someone else’s dream or die happy by living your own
The time I saw Eddie and Billy in a small club he was swinging a strat through a matchless amp, about 3 pedals, tone was outa this world. Somehow ended up in their dressing room after the show and talked about anything for over an hour. Real, real solid guys.
Eddy used a Mesa Boogie amp usually but I've seen him use Marshalls too. Yes this is the guitar DB gve him & the Strat now rests in Willie Nelson's guitar vault.
