I have bipolar 1 with my first manic episode occurring at age 42. I had a second 2 years later. I was devastatingly ill for 6 months both times. For years before I struggled with gut problems. My bloodwork always looked ok and scans were clear as I became unable to function in daily stomach pain. Gluten free diet didn’t help. And then out of nowhere in my forties I lose my mind as bad as you could imagine. I didn’t eat for weeks. Finally I was hospitalized and drugged and the episode stopped. My life was in shambles when I came back to reality but my guts were healed. My chronic back pain was healed. It was mind blowing I had been sick for maybe a decade. So I foolishly go back to a bad diet. The medications make you slow and starving. I’ve gained so much weight and feel just unwell in general. I’m on way too much medication but my episodes were both so bad and so long I live in daily fear of it happening again. Hearing this talk… especially the part where she explains the possibility of being well and not being defined by this diagnosis is giving me some hope. I’ve been thinking hard about what to do because being on meds and living in fear is awful. It feels like my life has paused and I’m just waiting to lose my mind again. This has inspired me and I’m going to do keto. It’s all making a lot of sense. Thank you 💙

I'm a therapist who has known for many years how important it is to have a healthy diet for moods but most of my clients have no interest in learning this. Listening to this interview and others like it have encouraged me to find ways to educate people on the huge importance of nutritional support and low carb way of eating. For the brain to help with moods

Just how some people can chainsmoke and live to 95, some people can eat diets high in plants and sugar and do the same. Most people can't. They will develop severe physical and mental illnesses, cancer, etc.

How does one convince the vegan who embraces the vegan diet religiously to eat an egg or some cheese? It seems hopeless.

Hi there! Greatings from Brasil. I'm watching all the episodes, thank you so much for sharing all this precious information. I would like t to sugest a subject: women have a hormonal cicle and the mood chances acording to It, also many of us crave carbs during the week before our period. I think It's something very important to investigate when researching the efects of cetogenic diet.

Hey, lovely interview! Question: how long does it usually taken before mental health gets better after starting the keto-diet? Thanks you for replying!

Everyone is different. Some people have reported to feel it within several days others can take weeks… very few don’t feel any relief at all (but they may not be doing it correctly)

That's great. What do you like to eat? On straight keto I like using hot sauces to add variety. Also about to getting into BBQ and smoked meat.

It can certainly induce ketosis, and is sometimes combined with a ketogenic diet.
