Say "NO!" to the prong collar. Prong collars are short cut but are fear-based. Instead, try positive training to train her how to walk nicely, or a gentle leader (which is kind of like a halter for dogs). Anyway, Happy Birthday Sophie!
@kaylaapplerider1221
@kaylaapplerider1221 3 года назад
Prong collars are designed to be the most humane way to train because they even the pressure out around the neck, where as normal collars pull only on the front of their neck which could cause damage to the trachea. Not saying they can't be used wrong, and wrong fitted one can hurt them, but so can a normal collar, they are like bits, spurs, and whips if used correctly they can be a excellent training device

I hope this doesn’t come out as harsh but gabby does not need a choke collar for molly those things are disgusting and are just like a harsh bit if she works more on commands and walking on a harness molly will pull less she a puppy she’s gonna be curious but she shouldn’t resort to harmful means to try and get her to stop. I love you guys so much and can’t wait to see more of your journey!

Before you give advice please do your research, prong collars to not choke dogs at all they are actually designed to be the most humane way to train because they even out the pressure on there neck if the dog pulls, and the prongs don't hurt(I've tested it). Whereas normal collars only pull on the front of their neck where the trachea is and can cause damage to the trachea

@@kaylaapplerider1221 actually i have done my research I train dogs all the time if you read what I wrote I said work with a harness not a collar I know a regular collar can be just as harmful as pronged one or and electric one but a pronged collar is still painful to a dog and can cause severe damage if not used properly i only said this because gabby has no experience using one and doesn't know how to use it properly do please don't start accusing me of not doing research and actually read what I wrote please and thank you.

@@sharonnorriss6551 See i don't disagree with this its a natural method that wont cause harm to a dog if used as long as its not for long intervals which you said it isn't my whole comment was just to say that she should try more harness training than resorting to things that can become dangerous if used in the wrong way or by an inexperienced person.

Dear Laura, This is just my opinion. Daisy may be getting super bloated becuase you may be over loading her with food. You see your stomach is small and when you give her, her meals she probably eats it really fast. When dogs or even humans eat too fast there stomachs feel overloading and make you feel not good. Puppies and dogs in general do not have the self control to stop eating, like we do. So I think that small, spaced out meals will be the best... Also my dog had this problem and I also found that a slow feeder really helped too! I also know that Dalmatians are known to have sensitive stomachs... I hope this can help becuase Daisy is such a cute puppy! Love you guys :)

You’re right, Laura. A prong collar is like using a harsh bit. Take a moment to think about why prong collars work - the prongs dig into the dog’s neck causing discomfort. The neck is a very sensitive area on a dog. Using discomfort is not training your dog. It’s a bandaid that you can put on a training issue.. just like how you can use a harsher bit to mask a training issue. Gabby, you can’t just look at someone online who uses a piece of equipment on their animal and assume that it’s perfectly fine just because they said so. I suggest doing legitimate research to form your opinion. Don’t listen to me, the other commenters, or some guy you saw on tiktok who uses one. Do research so that you can be the best owner you can be for your dog. I hope I didn’t come off as rude in this. I love the daybyday family and only want the best for you guys ❤️ Aside from that, I want to wish Sophie a very happy birthday!! I hope you had a wonderful day. You certainly deserve it

If you did research you would see prong collars are designed to even out the pressure instead of having a normal one that only pulls on there trachea which could cause damange.

Happy birthday Sophie! Also I would highly recommend getting her Baer tested. Doesn’t matter if parents have full hearing or not, it all comes down to their genetics and what they can pass down. My Dalmatian has full hearing but one of her litter mates has bilateral hearing. Both parents had full hearing. It’s very important to get the test because if she is deaf, you can support and train her a certain way. I know people with deaf dogs have taught commands through sign language too. My dal is a crazy pup, very energetic and very playful. Tbh she even has more energy than my border collie 😅

Collers with prongs are actually safer than normal collers. They even out the pressure and it actually doesnt't hurt them, normal collers only pull on the front of their neck and can hurt their trachea, and when fitted properly they are designed to be the most humane way to train.

I highly recommend reading up on the benefits of raw food vs kibble. My trainer recommended I try it and it's helped my dog so much was numerous issues. It causes them to bloat less, makes their poops smaller and firmer, makes their breath less stinky, and can prevent so many health problems down the road. Just the other day I met a lady with a 17 year old Border Collie and she said that she fed him raw and that he's never had any problems. It's definitely worth a shot to try! They also enjoy their food so much more. Dogs love variety in their food as much as we do!

I’m not sure what it was you didn’t like about what the vet said, however in my view, it’s always ok to question, express an opinion etc, as there’s no reason why it can’t be done politely. For me there’s a difference between just not liking what someone else says, because you don’t agree for example, and even the experts aren’t always right. Based on what you said and the vet and seeing Daisy in the pet store, she doesn’t seem to react to sounds as much as I would have thought a puppy would, it’s obviously different if she can see you, feel vibrations etc, so it might be worth getting her hearing properly tested, then at least you know for sure and it will then help Sophia with how she needs to train and keep her safe 😊👍 I wonder if feeding her less, but more frequently might work for a bit, unless you’ve been able to source a different food for her that’s suitable, nobody wants a windy dog 🐶😲 I hope you had a wonderful Birthday Sophia and enjoyed your cake 😊
@taylerhowell4715
@taylerhowell4715 3 года назад
If you want something good for training get a harness that hooks in front on the dog. Or get a shock collar that has the sound and vibrate controls as well. You don’t have to use the shock. I used this for training my dog to stay in the yard. I also have a friend who has a deaf dog and uses the vibrate so he knows to come back to her when she’s calling him. So if Daisy does turn out to be deaf in the future that’s an option for her.

If Gabby is looking for a new type of collar for Molly, try a martingale collar. It's basically part chain and part regular collar. The chain loosens and tightens as the dog pulls, but the release is instant when the dog stops pulling. That might be the next best thing to try.

don't get a prong collar for molly if you don't work with a trainer that can teach you how to use it! They can really hurt the dog if you don't use them correctly"! The one gabby picked up was huge for molly! she needs a smaller on as it needs to pit very snug and high on her neck (behind her ears) so she doesn't get hurt. I recommend you to queue a martingale and if it does not work to hire a dog trainer that can teach you to use a prong effectively and safely! The prong did wonders with my girl as she has a high prey drive, but a trainer worked with us to teach us how to use and train her with it!
@aizdraws3335
@aizdraws3335 3 года назад
also, no-pull harnesses that clip to the front of the dog aren't good either! they can hurt her in the back, as gentle leader does! Those parts of the body aren't designed to support any pull force! These tools are a quick fix but you'll depend on them! Nothing can outdo good training! Molly looks like a very smart dog I'm sure that with a flat collar and a few pieces of chicken you can teach her anything!

💕💕I hope Sophie had an amazing birthday!!! 💕💕 If Daisy is getting bloated I would try a different food. Usually dog foods that are high in animal by products or corn can cause gas, bloating and lots of poop. Switching to a food that has the first few ingredients listed as real chicken, beef etc, not byproducts or corn will help. We have 2 Goldendoodles with reflux and sensitive bellies and my vet (also a breeder) friend helped me find a food that works really well. What I like about it is that it’s for puppies and adult dogs. It’s called Diamond Naturals. You can find it at Tractor Supply Co and Chewy. I used to manage a pet store many years ago and took lots of animal nutrition courses and learned how important reading labels on dog food is just as it is for us. Also, adding some yogurt into her food can help or pumpkin as that can help with the flora in her stomach. You already know about switching over gradually. 😊 My dogs have done really well on that food and I add water as well which is also good for puppies. I can’t believe how big the puppies are getting!!! I hope that helps!! 😊😊💕💕💕🥰

I second this idea. We have a dog that is allergic to chicken! We found out because she would pick at her food and eat super slowly. The inside of her ears would turn red after she ate, she would make occasional gagging sounds, she had hot spots on her feet, and she had the worst gas! We bred her and had a litter of puppies from her, and all the vets assured us that chicken allergies/sensitivities weren't genetically inherited in dogs. Well, lo and behold, all of her puppies are sensitive to chicken as well. We tried chicken based puppy food, and they were all sick and throwing up. We thought at first it was a virus, but the change to a salmon-based food fixed the stomach issues for the puppies. A couple of the prospective owners didn't believe us, so we had an entire panel done on the puppies, and they were healthy. It was literally just the food that was the problem.

I am a strong believer in tools and that work great when you know how to use them. One Thing tho: use Herm Sprenger! It’s a German company and is the best! They can be pricey but if you get it off Chewy.com they’re pretty reasonable! :D (Herm Sprenger is the ONLY company with a pressure distribution plate. It doesn’t hurt them at all! And in no time your dog will be the best it can be! Still use treats though of course haha)

Prongs are great tools if used correctly. They can seriously mess a dog up if used incorrectly though. Please watch Upstate Canine Academy here on RU-vid if you want to look into using one on one of your dogs. The prong should sit up on the neck right under the ears, and be tight (not too tight- but it should be snug). There is a very specific way they need to be used. You can’t just put it on. It’s a training tool, so you need to put a lot of training into it. Just watch some videos, and decide if it’s a good decision for one of your pups!😊❤️ EDIT: I can’t believe I forgot to mention that when getting a prong, you absolutely NEED to get a Herm Sprenger one. Herm Sprenger collars are the Gucci version of prongs, any other prongs are like the dollar store brands (hope that made sense lol).

Also Sophie that harness that you got from Kong is amazing I have the same one and it has lasted forever and my dog doesn't pull as much any more. Also please do not get a retractable and tractable leash that can cause injury's to the dog and owner, I would recommend watching how to train a dream dog to learn about the leash and Is it me or the dog to learn about the head collar and prong collar.

Actually a prong is a very useful tool it doesn't hurt the dog when used/fitted correctly . It helped when my dog was at a pulling stage and he is a border collie. Head halter are horrible tools in my opinion they put pressure on your dogs neck and face and left rub marks on my dog. I am a balance trainer and use prongs and e collar to help my dog succeed.

A prong collar is like whips and spurs when used corretly they can be excellent training devices. Prong collars even the pressure around the entire neck where as a normal one only pulls on the front of their neck which can cause damage to their trachea

The kong harness is awesome!! I got one for my doggo :) if you are finding molly and Daisy are pulling too hard get them a harness with the clip in the front on their chest it makes them feel the leash better without having to use a prong collar (low key think those are abusive) the Kong has a ring in the front it’s not made to lead the dog but it works well as my golden doesn’t respect the leash and try’s to pull my arm off (he broke his leg as a baby and was on a leash 24/7 so he hates it) the front pull has really helped because it turns him around when he pulls away from me instead of just dragging me :D love you all!! can’t wait to see Willow with her new bridle!!

Prong collars are much better than regular collars because they put even pressure all around instead of just one pressure point like regular collars and basically choking them :) Prong collars don't dig or cut or poke into their skin either so they're actually a much better option than just regular collars! (no hate intended)

How are sharp spikes not poking and digging into them... it’s like people saying bits don’t hurt the horse... it’s all word of mouth look at it and you can tell it hurts I doubt you’d want that around your neck... no hate intended just look at a prong collar and you can tell
@jessie675
@jessie675 3 года назад
@@daddyyeehaw1793 The spikes are not sharp they're rounded at the end and they don't go directly into the skin, they're fitted to be slanted so that more of the side is on the skin than the actual end. Bits don't hurt horses either unless you use the disgusting harsh ones that for god knows why are still made. The collars are made to slip around the head so it has to fit the head which is bigger that the neck. They don't have clips and so the way it works is there's a chain linking the two ends together and when the dog pulls the chain shortens, pulling the ends closer together. (still not hurting) It's the same as a saddle, bit, spurs, whip, in the sense that if fitted or used incorrectly it could potentially cause harm but if it's fitted and used correctly it's perfectly humane. I just put my dogs old prong collar on (he was huge and it did fit over my head) And I pulled and it didn't leave a mark or be sore whereas if I put my dog's regular collar on, it hurts in the middle where I swallow and is restricting my ability to breath.
@daddyyeehaw1793
@daddyyeehaw1793 3 года назад
That’s why I use a harness. I don’t think it’s okay to choke your dog (even if he is pulling and causing it) I don’t think it’s humane to use prongs, whips, Spurs or bits, I understand there are ways to use equine aids without hurting them but I still don’t think it’s right and all bits cause pain, that’s what they are made to do so you have leverage over your horse, I don’t think pain is an okay way to communicate with you’re animal they learn by repetition, release of pressure and for dogs rewards (eye contact, treats, affection) you can’t expect me to believe prongs around you dogs neck is okay. There are other ways it just takes time and patience.

Tell Gabbie to get the herm springer prong collar 2.5mm or 3mm depending on how thick Mollies coat is. Also Laura prongs are safer than regular collars as they distribute the pressure around the neck evenly as when she pulls with a regular flat color all the pressure goes on her trachea and it can damage her trachea. Please research them as prongs can be and often are the safest way to walk your dog and BEST way to teach them not to pull, harnesses encourage pulling and shouldn’t be used on a dog who pulls that’s why they use harnesses on huskies to pull sleds. Ps prongs do not hurt and will not hurt your dog you can even put it around your own neck I promise it doesn’t hurt. You just can’t leave them on your dog 24/7 they should only be used when walking on a leash.
@thatjodhpurlife

Prong collar definitely DOES hurt them. Think about it this way - if they didn't feel it and it hurt them, then why would it work? Head collars are much better if Mollie gets strong when you walk her. Please don't ever use a prong or shock collar.

Prong collars don’t cause pain- they cause even pressure. Put one around your arm and pull it like it would on a dog- you’ll see it is not painful. and e-collars (shock collars) are great tools 🤔
@thatjodhpurlife
@thatjodhpurlife 3 года назад
@@sydneycooper2480 okay, so then take one and put it around your own neck where the skin is more sensitive. Our arms are not in any way comparable to our neck, let alone a smaller animals neck. Those collars work because when they do something they shouldn't they feel discomfort. They might not be yelping in pain but they're still uncomfortable. There are far kinder ways to train animals but a lot of people are lazy and use negative reinforcement or positive punishment because they can't be bothered to spend time training their animals with positive reinforcement.

Also prong collars are proven to put bends in airways and causes breathing problems, health issues and in even some cases...Death. I used to think they didn’t really hurt but put it around your neck. NO HATE I STILL LOVE YOU ALL LOL but please don’t get something like that, gabby is already good enough with training. Also you can get an actual “halter” type thing that is actually made for dogs, it goes on like a horse halter. That’s a better bet!

Hi Laura, in the video you mention about Daisy and her hearing, in one part you said that she has selective hearing or some selective deafness and it kinda sounded like your vet was unsure of that, but it is very possible that Daisy does have selective hearing or selective deafness, some breeds can have a selective hearing disorder, it may be something you want to look in too or read up, cause in some cases it can be caused by obedience and distractions. At one point you tried to say that when you sneezed it startled Daisy, depending on the way you sneeze and where she is she could feel the vibration of it and in some cases Sneezing is in another sound octave. I think it might help you expose Daisy to a bunch of different sounds in different octaves and see what she responds to. Another thing to think of when people say deaf, it doesnt always mean that they cant hear, it can also mean they can only hear in certain octaves of sound or maybe they are only have hearing in one side. Daisy could even have early onset hearing impairments that could develop more as she gets older, there is alot of stuff to consider, as the thing is she still is young and she is still learning. You have a beautiful family and animals.

the problem is they dont work with a dog trainer tho, and improper use of a prong collar can cause serious damage. It’s one thing if they are planning on working with a dog trainer, but letting a 13yo with a large puppy use a prong collar seems like a recipe for disaster

Try feeding smaller more frequent meals. And try grain free, chicken free, and/or potato free. Those are common allegations in dogs. And the prong collars you can use two collars or a harness and first soft cue then use the harsher cue. NEVER pull though!!! Also start training in side not to pull then out side then gradually move up to more distracting locations.

I do not recommend a prong collar even if you don't want to use a head harness you can use a chest harness one that clips the leash at the chest. When the dog tries to pull ahead the harness will make her just turn around instead.
