Im an avid boxing guy. Bourland had a great amateur career but was essentially retired having only 2 bouts since 2018. Many people hear the word "professional" and align it with talented which in combat sports the only requirement to be a "professional" is some paperwork.

I honestly didn’t know this fight was even happening, so that in and of itself is a step in the right direction

What really bothers me about Jake Paul is his refusal to fight anyone in his weight class. Ryan Bourland came in at his career heaviest of 197 lbs in this fight against Jake. When he was in his prime and more actively boxing, he primarily fought in the 170-180 lb range. When he came back for the one fight in 2022, he fought at 185 lbs which at that point was his heaviest. 185 lbs to 197 lbs is still a 12 lb weight gain. That makes a lot of difference. People don’t realize how much of a difference weight gain/weight loss makes in a fighter’s performance. Jake Paul fights people who are in the 170-175 lb division and makes them gain weight to meet him at HIS ideal weight. Jake is a big dude. He walks around at 210+ lbs and has to cut to even get down to 200 lbs. he was a little smaller a couple years ago so he could get down to as low as 185 lbs but that’s the lowest he’s ever gone. I think it’s absolutely pathetic and disrespectful that he just absolutely refuses to fight people who are in his weight class. Last year, both Marvin Vettori (185 lb division) and Paddy Pimblett (155 lb division) called Jake out to spar. Jake completely ignored Vettori yet actively chased the Paddy Pimblett spar. Derek Brunson is his size, fought in the 185 lbs division, is LITERALLY signed to the PFL, and has called Jake out multiple times. No response from Jake, yet he claims he can’t get anyone to sign up to fight him in MMA. He’s calling out Nate Diaz (again, Nate fought at 155 lbs and 170 lbs in the UFC) and challenged Tommy Fury to an MMA match (Tommy has literally never trained MMA). He’s scared to fight anyone his size because he knows he will get hurt, yet he has no issues weight bullying and trying to knock out ppl that are naturally smaller than he is.

He doesn't want the respect, he doesn't want to fight, he wants to make money and clout

Bro you are all wrong here. Check other high profile boxer record for their first 10-15 fights. They're building up the fighters who have potential, Jake is doing exactly what Canelo and Mayweather and Golovkin and everyone else did for their first couple of fights. And Jake started late as a youtube kid too, all those other pro fighters started really early. Plus Jake also fought challenging fights, like the one with Tommy Fury, very early on his career, and I can even argue the Anderson Silva one was also challenging fight. Plus he's smarter than most of other pro fighters with the business side of things. Why people hate on someone who wants to box I don't get it.

Boxing has been boring for a long time, which has given the opportunity to Jake. He can charge whatever he wants as long as he can pull that off. Nobody is interested in those 100s of boring boxers who nobody knows nothing about. People know Jake and they want him to fight anybody and they will pay for it. Plain and simple...
