Walmart stopped "hiding" the movies last year. I went out last year and went straight to the meat section since that's where my Walmart always put the movies and there was nothing there. I walked around for 10 minutes and then asked an employee. She looked at me like I was an idiot and said they were in the electronics area. When I finally found the tiny selection of discounted movies an employee who had been there enough years to know what I was talking about told me corporate stopped the heavy movie push because sales on them were down the year before.

My local Walmart's didn't even have any movies on sale. Not a single media item , With the colored circle sticker's. Probably because in my area they had already shrank the movie section down to 10% of what it was 10 year's ago.

Black Friday was getting too out of control at one point. Remember when retail stores would schedule you so early for a 12 hour shift that you couldn’t even enjoy your Thanksgiving? I remember my family having to do dinner around 2 or 3pm because a couple of us started work at 5 or 6pm, which is just insane with each year getting earlier and earlier! The lines outside were blocks long, nobody knew where anything was, and you had to try to keep order through out all of that madness. Slowly but surely I think people were staring to realize that the deals weren’t worth all of that trouble, especially when they did things like Cyber Monday and other Christmas sales anyway. The whole thing just got way out of hand 😖

I’ve not witnessed a Black Friday “event” since 2015. Every year since then, every store just said “Screw it. We’ll just discount some stuff and leave them where they are. And we’ll start at 6am and not tell anyone.”

It's not hard to figure out why: - Inflation has killed the average person's expendable income - people have caught on that retailers raise prices and 'discount' them down to what they were before. - alot of 'doorbuster' deals were loss leaders to get you in the door to buy other things. Society has moved to online shopping hence removing that dynamic - simple living/minimalism movements have people spending more on experiences and not on 'stuff' - Deals start appearing as soon as November hits and runs into December, so there's no more 'gotta buy it on Black Friday or else!'

I was so disappointed in Black Friday. I look forward to it every year but this year was the worst! Even online sales mostly sucked. Yea, Walmart told me they stopped doing the discount movies because “everyone is streaming now”. I despise that our instant gratification worshipping culture has adopted this extremely hollow experience of streaming music and movies over actually having something to show for your spent money. Even Target skipped doing the sale movies unless you bought more than 3. Meijer was the only big store that still had a decent selection of discounted DVDs and Blu-rays. But they must have known that since even their prices were not quite as good as what Walmart USED to offer before the God forsaken, all-powerful destroyer-of-existence pandemic mercilessly annihilated the joy of life. 😖

I was at Best Buy thirty minutes ago. This is almost verbatim how my conversation with the front door assistant went: "Hey, I'm looking for some Black Friday deals that you guys might have on 4K's right now." "What?....." "4K movies. I'm looking for 4K movies." "............" "You know, like, the discs that you play in a 4K player." "Oh, we have players over there-- right by the--" "No, I mean, I want the actual movies that you play in them." She just wound up directing me to the players anyway, and I confirmed through a thorough search that they didn't have any 4K movies. Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesus. 🤦‍♂

the pandemic ruined everything. It got people to be accustom to stay home, shop online watch movies on streaming, order door dash etc. The reason why people suffer from more social anxiety and depression more than ever is because they don't know how to interact with people outside of their homes anymore. It's really sad what it's come to like they are molding people to just never go out again.

Walmart does Black Friday WAY differently now. The sales last all month, but they split things into weeks. Like Week 1, Week 2, and Week 3. Usually the movies are Week 1 or Week 2. Then they further complicate things by making everything Walmart+ exclusive. So those that are signed up for Walmart+ will only get the "special" prices. Walmart+ isn't cheaper either. Oh and then to even further make things difficult/complicated, a lot of it is online exclusive. Nothing is in-store anymore. I didn't bother with Walmart this Black Friday, or Black Friday altogether. I've been trying to get movies off of Amazon's sale, but there really isn't any Blu-Rays on sale. Either it's stuff I have or don't want or not a price I'm willing to spend. I was gonna get the Adam West Batman show on Blu-Ray since it was $30, but that got wiped out quickly. And all I have in my town for stores is Walmart and Meijer (said like Myer as in Michael Myers, not My-Jer like everyone thinks). I don't have a Best Buy or Target in my town. I live in Upper Michigan. Closest Target or Best Buy to me is the Green Bay-Appleton area. Meijer doesn't have that great of a Black Friday either, especially on movies. Mostly just stuff released in the last couple years that I either have or don't want. So I'm pretty much stuck with Amazon now with how Black Friday is.

I live in Kansas (burbs not the sticks) and I know they'll still stick you in jail for shoplifting here. I see horror stories of people just walking out with $999 worth of stuff in some California cities because they won't prosecute. Black Friday has had the stake rammed through its heart. I have a full Amazon wishlist where almost NOTHING went on sale on Friday or Cyber Monday. It's a waste. I'm having to dig around on eBay for deals, which is not the way it ought to be. Yeah , You'd think that if these stores were going to cease selling movie's in the next few months. They would've wanted to sell many of them as they could. And this black Friday would've been a golden opportunity to do so. But instead of them having titles at 50% off. They'll probably do what some of the Walmarts around me do. Where they don't reduce the price or put them on clearance. But just yank them and send them back to regional warehousing where they sell them off in bulk to pallet dealer's at pennies on the dollar.😞

The best part of black friday isn't the deals anymore, it's the Flick Trip videos. My local best buy _did_ have some good deals for 4k blu rays and switch games, but some stuff like Dazed and Confused is just mind-blowingly expensive. Also, who the heck is turning up $39 to buy Gran Turismo on 4k Blu Ray? Anyways, banger video, John.

A long of Black Friday deals begin at the start of the week, and can easily be found online too. Plus a lot of current deals are very stingy. Your better off waiting for Christmas sales which will either match the price or be even lower.

Nice to see an upload! Didn't go out for black friday... just bought board games online .. Sad about physical media as well!

The fun is over. No one really tries to give good deals anymore. Walmart and Best Buy are just sad to walk into now. But at least at Walmart it’s a shit show sometimes and you get to see “People of Walmart” type things.

Good buy with HEAT. Crank up the audio during that amazing heist scene! Uncompressed audio goodness will shine there. Here in the UK over the last few years they've been trying to make black Friday a thing. Nobody cares, other than the companies trying to sell crap. It has no relevance here, our big sale day is boxing day, the day after Christmas where people go out and spend the money they got for Christmas. Also most crap is just that. Crap. They slowly put the prices up a few weeks before then drop them to their previous retail price, or sliiiiightly lower so it looks like a bigger discount than it really is. Amazon were shilling me stuff I was looking at over the last month or two and it's actually more expensive on "sale" than it was several weeks ago in some cases!

You’re right. I’ve been getting all my 4Ks on Amazon because it’s always cheapest on BF and the week leading up to it. Arrives the next day.

Don’t listen to articles that say this Friday had more in store sales than last Black Friday. Last year Black Friday started on Thursday

I like how you filmed everything and then did voice over later because it can be more concise this would be a way that I'd like to do videos in store and that way people aren't bothering you in the recording or affecting your audio.
