Hey everyone!
This is a video I have been planning for many months and I'm finally able to share it with you. The black mist scandal is the biggest baseball scandal in Japanese history. This is a story that involves gangs, bribery, and much more. How does it compare to the Astros and Black Sox scandals? That's for you to decide.

I apologize in advance for the mispronunciation
@ragingjapaneeet9274
@ragingjapaneeet9274 2 года назад
Japanese pronunciations are tricky if you don’t speak the language. I think you did a great job (as a native Japanese speaker) so keep doin what you doin man! Love your contents
@peachykeen3194
@peachykeen3194 2 года назад
@@ragingjapaneeet9274 I have to respectfully disagree. For a native English speaker, pronunciation should be the easiest part of learning Japanese. It has few if any phonemes not present in English (ふ is the only one that comes to mind), and in general has only half as many phonemes as English. Learning English pronunciation as a native Japanese speaker is many times more difficult than the reverse.
@zxq9419
@zxq9419 2 года назад
@@peachykeen3194 This is true, but only really holds for people who can at least read kana. People who either do not know Japanese or have only studied introductory language tend to have only seen it transliterated using Roman letters, and these do not convey the sounds visually at all. When he says 巨人 as "Kai-yoh-jinn", for example, it took me a second to realize "Oh, he must have seen this written in Romaji like 'Kyojin' and made a similar mistake people make when reading 'Tokyo' as 'Tow-key-yow'." It happens all the time and should be expected. People watching this care more about the stated subject of this video than the pronunciation details, myself included. Foreigners don't freak out when they hear people here say McDonald's as "Makudonarudo" -- just just pause, maybe giggle on realizing what is going on, and move on. It's OK. Not a big deal.
@peachykeen3194
@peachykeen3194 2 года назад
@@zxq9419 Maybe I'm just a pedant, but I guess from my point of view, if you have time to make a 40 minute video, and have time to write an apologetic comment, then you have time to learn the proper pronunciation. If you care enough about Japanese baseball - and by extension, Japan - to make a video like this, then caring enough to use proper pronunciation should come naturally.
@ragingjapaneeet9274
@ragingjapaneeet9274 2 года назад
@@peachykeen3194 never said speaking is the hardest part, just said it was tricky. So idk why you’re being so bitter about this lol He probably didn’t have basic knowledge on Japanese phonics so yeah why so mad that he didn’t pronounce it correctly? 日本語喋れますアピールしたかったのかな? 日本語喋れるなら文化も学ぼう?せっかくこんな風に動画作ってくれたのに細かいことグチグチ言ったら「もう日本の野球について動画作らーん」ってなるだけやで?? (Did you want to brag that you can speak Japanese? Please learn the culture if your gona learn the language. By you fiddling around nitpicking stuff, the only thing the creator is going to say is “screw this covering NPB ain’t worth it” ) Again, It is not a big deal, and there’s no need for YOU to be sour about this.
@YakyuCosmopolitan
@YakyuCosmopolitan 2 года назад
Good to see more baseball content creators covering NPB in such depth. A lot of potential fans of Japanese baseball are lost because of the lack of accessibility. But the English-speaking NPB community is small but close knit and active, so I recommend everyone give NPB a go.
@zxq9419
@zxq9419 2 года назад
There is English-speaking interest in NPB? Other than our somewhat ridiculous ground rules for indoor stadiums (to be fair, MLB has plenty of ridiculous ground rules in indoor stadiums as well, just fewer indoor stadiums in general), I suppose it is a quite easy to follow league and we have really good telecast quality. 野球ポッドキャストをやった方がいいのかな…英語で?

A year late, but there are a few I know. I don't believe they were as big as the steroid scandal and such. 😅 Several pictures were caught in a gambling scandal back in 2015. Also, apparently, electronic sign stealing was an issue 2 decades ago for Japanese baseball.

this episode is so highly underrated. I understand a lot of your subs may be more inclined to the shorter videos you do, but this was amazing. seeing it at such a low view count when compared to your other videos, even the ones released afterwards, is a bit upsetting, even if all of your videos are high quality. this one did such a good job of breaking the mold and telling a story most of us never experienced

Absolutely outstanding! I have followed Japanese baseball for a long while (my dad worked there and brought me home swag in the 80s) and never knew this. Guess we don't talk about the worst aspects of our game broadly. This is fascinating. I wonder if Ikanaga is a bit like Shoeless Joe (although even more clean). Sad we never got to see his career (or him coming stateside, given he was clean). But you should feel proud of a fantastic documentary including a little "this causes this" from your other channel. Keep up the excrement work, and I'll keep sending links to it to my friends.

Great video. It is sad to see what happened to the Lions in the 1970s, but you have to give kudos to Yoshiaki Tsutsumi of Seibu of taking on the unenviable task of rehabiliting a team whose image had taken a hit from the scandal towards the decade's end. Safe to say, Tsutsumi's reclamation project was a resounding success.

Mr. Steve Carlton learned effective slider from Mr. Fumio Narita of Lotte Orions (25:50 -26:03) when he played against Japan's pro baseball team as a Cardinal in 1968. Mr. Carlton tried just-learned slider on Mr.Sadaharu Oh and flipped Oh with it.

if u wonder why the people that were not involved in the bribery (i.e. team owners, ceos, and more) resigned, that is how Japanese do. They have no involvement, but they feel responsible for it (probably because they feel responsible for letting it happen under their lead without their acknowledgement). feeling responsible, that's why

I feel bad for Masayuki Nagayasu, his picture looks tragic. He just looked like a ball-player, who once did and may still love the game, and with all the joy & courage he can muster tries to provide for his loved ones with this one skill, a skill that's oppressively competitive. And yeah he took bribes and bets, but don't take away what he loves forever.- Anyway, my heart felt that.
