I am most interested in how they'll deal with wukong as a character, is he going to go the Dark souls character route with no real voicelines or characterization or will he have a more set in stone deal like Sekiro or maybe even have his own voicelines and character? I am super excited to see where he goes.

I personally think that it will go the Dark Souls character route. I think you will be some nameless monkey that somehow gets or finds the artifacts of the legendary monkey king.

I would hope he gets voice lines. One of Wukongs most notorious traits is his playful, prankster nature. I guess I never read Journey to the West, so I have no idea whether he spoke in that book, or whether he just giggled or laughed while sowing chaos.

I dont know why you all think its going to be a soulslike? the Devs have already said while the game appears as a soulslike it takes far more combat from God of War and the only aspect they are taking from soulslike is the stylistic way you approach a boss fight, but will be more like GOW difficulty and traversal.

I can't wait for this game. I'm not much of a fan of souls games but I loved God of War. Additionally, Journey to the West is near and dear to my heart. I remember being absolutely in love with the 1996 TVB series of Journey to the West when I was younger. I would even rush home from school so I wouldn't miss the next episode. I would love to see what they do with Wukong. BTW August 20th is not the Chinese New Year, that's on February 10th of this year. If anything it's closer to the Hungry Ghost Festival. August 20th is just the day that they released the first trailer for the game. Kind of symbolic really.

A common misconception about the '72 tranformations': the ability of transforming into other things is only one of the '72 transformations', which contains many other capacities like commanding storm and thunder, conjuring light etc.,

August 20 is not Chinese New Year, but it is an important date for Game Science (developers) because they releases new news about Black Mythology on August 20 every year, which is an anniversary. In addition, according to Chinese folk belief, Sun Wukong's birthday is on July 17 of the lunar calendar, and this year's July 17 of the lunar calendar happens to be on August 20 of the Gregorian calendar. That's why many people think the game's release won't be delayed

Very excited for this but my only concern is apparently its mission based. This is subjective ofc but i wouldve preferred more traditional soulslike interconnected areas. That said i love the nioh games but nioh also had multiplayer so the mission structure makes more sense in that regard. Heres to hoping each individual mission has some intricate and sprawling level design

The game looks awesome so far and i do plan to play it, i did not watch back in the day the tv show but i did watch some CN anime based on Journey to the west and some other adaptations as far as gameplay goes i am sure it will be fun i only hope the story will be good enough. As for the combat and all things around that i hope its not too hard cuz i am not the type to try hard i am mostly in for this games for the story so i don't do things like nightmare difficulty.

I know it is labeled as a souls like but it looks closer to Sekiro. Which is also mislabeled as a souls game. It is an action RPG. If it gets close to Sekiro it will be amazing.

@@SupremeKayJay Aren't souls games made in the Dark Souls series? Like Demon's Souls to DS1-3? You could include Elden Ring in there also since the basics are the same. Souls like means a couple different things. One of which is difficulty, the other being similar gameplay from a different developer. Sekiro is a great game, but it is difficult and the gameplay is not a souls games. It fits much better under "souls like" even though it's made by FS. That and Bloodborne are much farther from souls games than they are close.

This game looks like it has the potential to be the Chinese gaming industry’s answer to God of War 2018 and Ragnarök, but not if it’s level-based… I pray this game is a free roam linear experience like God of War rather than having separate levels to play on like The Last of Us. I’m pretty intrigued for this game but there’s still a few things I need to see before being sold.

I just hope this is great. Not good or passable; I want this to be great. They announced it a bit early and have had 5 years since to work on it, and I hope it delivers. I'm ready for something like this. I do also hope the 15 hours is not accurate. Game like this should be more like 20-25 I think. Personal opinion, but if it's 15 really good hours with replay value then I'm good with it.
