Black Ops! Building the Revell 1/48 SR-71A out of the box. In part one I begin by assembling the engine nacelles and outer wings. This is a brand new kit from Revell, so we expect great things ...... don't we?

Hi, I'm new to your channel, so this comment is a little late. However, I found that building the engines to then just hide them wasn't for me. So I built them with lots of extra detail and weathering and displayed them on the stand. Great channel, I like the way you explain the issues during a build and how you get around them. I bought this the second it was available for Pre-Order in America, and I've been holding out on building it. Thank you for taking this on, and for your take on fixing the many issues and mods you're making to it. I feel that I'm learning a lot from your videos and will definitely be using some of your techniques in my SR-71 build, as well as many others.

Another great video, Jen; thanks for the detailed explanations of your construction techniques; I learn something new every time. I also find Dymo tape not very helpful, but recently I learned of the Scribing Guide Tape; it is more flexible than Dymo tape, and because it's transparent, easier to position over the model.

What I don't understand about this design was it was such a leap in development technology and appearance ( flown in 64 for Christ,s sake ) " You might say the advancement was Other Worldly " Virtually nothing since has been terribly significant sure stuff has got nimbler and quick but nothing compared to Blackbird !

Truly enjoyed this one. In my own case, I glued the upper engine nacelles together for a better fit, then sanded, etc. Then I clipped off the rear of the extensions to the shock cones and glued it in. back frame was glued in as a spacer/alignment. The forward shock cone snaps into alignment because of the remaining tabs. Sure saved me a lot of filling and sanding later. Pics avail if you want them. your usual great job! Dane

I'd like to see pictures, yes. I could include them in part two and/or on Facebook. If I did another I would definitely modify the inner trunking to allow it all to be fitted afterwards. Access is non-existent to sort out the intake seams otherwise.

Hi Jen, Loving the channel and getting a lot of tips. Did you fill the rudder swivels or are you just closing up the gap? They don't look too closed on the real thing. I have the SR71 but not had time to start it yet so watching this for help with errors and mis-fits.

Great job your doing on this! as you do on all your models, been watching alot of your stuff as im doing my own hobbies. Ive got the 1:72 version of this waiting on my shelf so this has been quite helpful. I was wondering if i could ask you a question regarding Mr. Colour varnish? just trying to get some good information regarding it so i dont ruin a model etc

@@JenesisDesignsandModelcraft Its more for thinning ratio's and application of the varnish? I used to use Testors Dullcote cans but ive nearly ran out of them so looking for reliable alternatives. Ive seen alot of modellers use the the Mr Hobby clear coats, would also be nice to have something that i dont have to rely on the weather outside to use. Is it a lacquer based product? would it need alcohol for cleaning? thank you in advance

It is embarrassing given the engineering that Tamiya, Bandai etc regularly demonstrate. Some of it may be taking shortcuts to achieve a price, But sometimes it just feels like laziness from the manufacturer

I agree completely. It is frustrating as this clearly isn't a kit aimed at beginners or being cheap so there isn't that exuse.
