He needs to get those metal worker magazines over to Keith Rucker to be scanned into his Vintage Machinery database.

It is kind of funny watching Andrew's amazement 3:50 at the "state of the art" of the 1800's with the planer. Meanwhile, what he is forgetting, or isn't aware of or thinking of are the centuries and likely millennia of clockmaking and instrument-making technology that the technology for the planer borrowed from. Some of the clocks from the great European cathedrals are from the late 1300's and can still be run more than 600 years later.

Initially I was aggravated how so much cool and useful items were being hoarded but this guy has a magnetic personality and truly loves this stuff. Hes clearly got gobs of cash to set this treasure trove up for everyone to enjoy.

The putnum grinding wheel would be used in the field and driven by a tractor tire on the wood wheel by lifting one of the rear wheels of the tractor off the ground and moving the grinder to contact the free spinning wheel. Used in Forestry for axe grinding but primarily for farming equipment, sharpening plow discs, wheat threshers. etc.

They were the best two videos I have seen for years, what a collection, very envious and very grateful that someone is preserving our history. Shows what can be achieved without computers, electricity or hydraulics, very inspiring. Have got to get me one of those vice anvils though. Thanks for taking the time to video and post this Adam.

Incredible guy. I don't care how he makes it all come together or what his angle is, I just love his passion and enthusiasm. I mean most of what he has there would be sitting in some forgotten corner of nowhere gathering rust n cobwebs if he didn't give it a home and some appreciation. Relics from the liberation of mankind from manual labour; before it went all weird and turned digital, hah...

Gosh, no words to describe the collection he has. Andrew seems like one of the nicest guys you can meet and very humble. That Abom size grinding wheel is awesome. That little shaper had me smiling ear to ear. Would love to see that baby going. May have to join instagram to see the video's. I loved both video's. Picking up that Thor's hammer was quite a feat, The Abom hammer. Good times. Thank you Andrew for letting us in your shop, thank you Adam for uploading it.

I really enjoyed this shop tour. Andrew's passion for vintage machines is very contagious. I'm also impressed with his in-depth knowledge of every item in his collection. I can't see how Andrew could be married. I have a nice collection of machines (although minuscule compared to Andrew's) and my wife is always giving me grief about it. I've got to show her these videos. :) Last year I traveled from Los Angeles to Dearborn, MI just to see the vintage machines at The Henry Ford Museum. Most of them are restored and running, including a huge belt driven machine shop. Spent 5 days there and still didn't see everything. Well worth the trip. Going back soon.

Great seeing you guys at Lindale. Thanks, Andrew, for bringing some of your pieces to the event for everyone to enjoy. Most folks didn't see the amount of effort you put in to getting the stuff there and back, with all the loading, unloading, loading, unloading, etc. Truly a great event at The Good Of The Land Fest #GOTLFEST and you and Adam helped make it really special. Thanks, Adam, for opening up the world to Andrews amazing collection. Cheers, Gary

I don't know what I'd need first. That 300# Ajax hammer was really nice but that camelback drill would be worth the money! Never seen one with a table/vise combo like that! Awesome vid. Wow - what a collection - some of it looks like a machines that were used in the predecessor to the (now) engineering shop; it is now the Honda engine sales outlet, he has a version of the inverted leaf spring hammer that we saw in the video. Hey, I LOVE old iron; a lot of it came from the 'States (and the UK back in the 1800's) as there really wasn't the local manufacturing capacity here in Oz.

Hey Adam, enjoyed your Blacksmith Tools Workshop Tour. I noticed your comments about flame cutting (or oxy acetylene cutting). You said about how thick you can cut with gas... There is a flame cut slab of steel in the Boilermakers Shop at our local TAFE (Technical & Further Education or probably Trade School in the US). It is at least 3 feet (1meter in our language! 😋) thick! It was done some years back here in Newcastle at the old BHP Steelworks using oxy-acetylene with a special multi bottle setup.. If you were interested I could see if I could grab a few photos. I saw it a few years ago when I was doing some machining courses in the Machine Shop next door..

@@Abom79 Adam, I rode past the TAFE on my way in to work today, but they have since renovated this building & sadly, it looks like they have taken away the display piece of flame cut steel. (You know, the more I think about, I suspect that it may have been a lot thicker than just 36"... but it was around 10yrs ago that I saw it). I'll certainly let you know if I find out any more about it.
