Google 'Distributor drive vertical play'. Lots of forum info. Some of it actually helpful!

It's supposed to have some play, that way it can find the gear on the cam, and mesh properly, i really think that the spider injectors, or egr issue.

yeah at this point i'm thinking that too. It's just weird that it hasn't thrown any codes.
