🔥🔥🔥🔥 EM is a staple and comfort blend for me. The sweet, bready/fermented flavor with that touch of pepper/date from the perique makes for such a nice, nuanced smoke. If you smoke this one in a longer stemmed pipe--a Canadian or Bing's Favorite--you will get a lot of different flavors through the bowl.

🔥🔥🔥🔥This is a fantastic one MC. Elizabethan is one of the first and best Va/pers I ever smoked! Just the right amount of Perique and Virginias makes a well balanced blend and lets add with an amazing retrohale

Hi Chris… it’s been a while since I commented. Most of your pipeclub blends of late are my favorites as well. However although I give this a ❤❤❤ rating, mostly due to its quality, I do find this one a bit harder to enjoy. I really need to pay attention to keeping the cadence down to just sipping or it does become a bit harsh. And, for whatever reason, this is one blend that can knock me on my butt with a nic-hit. Much like you described with GLP’s Vanilla Cream (for you), this one inexplicably hits me harder than it seems it ought to. I reserve it for times when I can sip away unrushed and I go for a smaller bowled pipe so that I don’t “overdo it”… and, as you’ve mentioned before, some age on the tin really helps… I find it knocks some of the rough edges off of it! 🎉🎉🎉 out of 5. for e it has a smoke “scratches” my throat a little if I do a solid draw. I guess that is the perique reacting with me… I taste slight sweet creamy smoke and also a slight bit of spice flavor. I like this blend

@Muttnchop Piper Great video as always. If you're still looking for ideas about MuttnTravels, I recommend Uhle's in Milwaukee. They have a good line of year round proprietary blends with a few seasonals mixed in, and Milwaukee is always a fun city to visit. Once you get past the Chicago traffic anyway.

A terrific video. You might want to do one on the different parts of the typical Virginia plant - lower on the stem, middle, higher, as they all have different levels of ‘sweetness’ and are used differently based on the goals of the blender.

😗🤔🙄😮‍💨 My go-to blends are usually full flavored English blends. I smoke nightcap nearly every day. Ten Russians is a close second, but I can't find it here in Japan. On the rare occasion I do reach for a VAper, I'll go for Chacom no. 4, because it has that full flavor I look for. There's spice from the perique, but the Virginia sweetness is much deeper than Elizabethan, and is present from the first light until the end of the bowl. It's smoky, deep and most importantly, consistent. Elizabethan, for me, when I tried it, was not as good as Bradley (Stuff and Things) made it out to be. Similar to your experience, the spice came through at first light, but the Virginia sweetness was very distant. In some smokes, Elizabethan didn't even taste sweet until after the second half of the bowl. Sure the flavor is there if you hunt for it, but when you go hunting for buck and come across nothing but squirrels you tend to get at least disappointed. In conclusion, Elizabethan is a fine VAper for those who enjoy perique and enjoy much lighter flavor in their Tobacco, but it hardly matches up with Chacom No. 4, which I compare most other VApers to.

I like to have the resistance of pop throw a straw. If you have that, it's probably good. If you get to milkshake, use the pipe tool to loosen it, milkshake resistance can lead to a hot bowl, which can cause a burn out. Excellent videos!

Excellent review, Muttnchop. Ironically, just this morning I had my very first bowl of Elizabethan Mixture. I am relatively new to serious pipe smoking (about a year) and this may be my favorite blend. I love everything about it. The initial aroma, the "packability" the burn and the delicious, subtle flavor. Thanks for the good info and all you do.

I have found this blend to be the stoutest of the Vapers I have tried in regards to Perique. Retrohaling a mouthful is on par with a horseradish burn. But it is just too good so I now "sip it" ever so gently and enjoy the flavors. Great to have you back! Have a great day!

💜💜💜💜 This a beautiful blend. I had a tin of this when first starting to smoke a pipe and it ws rather strong on the palette by no fault of its own. Now revisiting it after one year it is wonderfully tasty! Perfect moisture from the beginning and packs easily. Plum and raisin from the start with just enough sweetness supporting. I do get the bread notes as I smoked this in several different pipes. Average to below average on relights you can really slow down and enjoy this one!!! It is definitely worth a try!!! Smoked in a meerschaum lined pipe, briar, and several cobs. Flavor really sings in the cobs!!!

One of my go to blends. Best jarred up from the tin and left for a few months to open up. Group 3 or 4 sized bowl and great with coffee. It ages really well and smooths out the Perique. I have some jarred over 10yrs and it’s awesome! The Peterson and the previous Dunhill version the exact same. The Murray’s version Less Perique imo. I like both. My advice is buy some and leave some in the cellar and try it now and in 5 years. I’ve added this to my cellar over a 30yr period and she makes this a truly special smoke. Thanks for the video. 👍👍

I smoke more Elizabethan than most other blends. I don't have an issue with it being harsh. Maybe your next bowl will be smoother for you. Very good tobacco. I tend to use a large to very large bowl for Elizabethan.❤

🔥🔥🔥 It is ok for a Virginia Perique blend. Moisture level is good. The bready/fermented flavor is good. For me the balance is a little off in overall flavor.

Elizabethan Mixture is my go to blend. Love it. I'm glad Peterson picked it up after Dunhill dropped it.

I just went out to purchase my first tin of pipe tabacco, based of smell alone (and the clerks recommendations) I got a tin of Peterson Royal Yacht, Virginia blend. Im waiting for my pipe to arrive and am now going through some of your videos about pipe smoking.

🤙🤙🤙🤙. So good. Tastes zesty and almost like a deep red wine from the perique. The Virginia then comes out at the end with a honey like sweetness. It is especially good out of a longer stemmed pipe. Definitely one of my favorites!

🦊🦊🦊 I give this a 2.5 or 3. I live spice in my tobacco. Especially cigars, but this blend comes on a little strong. I tried this blend when I started a year ago and am now again a year later to the day. I notice the flavor is more discernable for me, and I enjoy the flavor. However, the spice really kicks in HARD for me.. My recommendation is to give it a try but really sip it less it cause a strong level of tongue bite. Happy piping all.

hi folks, I wanna ask for your opinion, I year ago I started to pipe smoking after watch every Muttnchop’s great video, I bought a variety of pipes and tobaccos I thought I probably liked, then I “dedicated” my pipes as follow: Pipe 1: Capstan, Escudo, Elizabethan Mixure, Give me Liberty Pipe 2: White Knight, Bengal Slices, Plump Pudding, Black House, Nightcap Pipe 3: Early Morning, Nightcap Pipe 4: HH Bold Kentucky, Three Nuns, Double Pressed Latakia…. my question is if according to flavor and kind of tobacco is the right decision… thank you your comments!!

Found you by chance. You know this stuff. Thank you I am here to learn. My Dad and Great Grandad smoked pipe. I used to smoke cigarettes but quit after 40+ years in 1999. Today I am in my 70s. It hasn't killed me so I decided, I would like a vice in my old age. I also smoked a pipe on occasion: Question: meerschaum or other: what smokes best? Today, ever since Mid June I have enjoyed High-end Cigars but would consider a pipe. I am also curious where, today, one can find good tobacco. When younger there were tobacco shops all over town. Today, after all the scare, no more. Where save Amaxon can you get Shag, or Turkish, or Lebanese or the like? Again Thanks for sharing/

🥃🥃🥃 Pepper/raisins/spicy back of tongue hint on exhale- bright smoke with mild sweetness- pairs well with bourbon and BBQ, ice cold cola or strong coffee - I found this more enjoyable in the morning; oddly would have to say-and mostly coincidentally- was smoking this while putting together a ship model and playing online chess- the illustration on the Tin now links this blend and room note to that activity in my mind- it is a thoughtful blend.

Well, I'm new to all this, but I have to say, I quite like this seeing as it's not an aromatic. I tend to go for aromatics, but this is tasty. I can actually taste all the flavors you mentioned. I have to give this a five out of five. 😃😃😃😃😃

😎😎😎😎 spicey and full flavored. Very satisfying.. it’s a t bone steak with a whiskey sour for a smoke. Better than 965 which is leaves me hungry for more spice and wanting something more to complete the blends depth! Elizabethan is my Peterson deserted island choice!

😊😊😊😊😊 Honestly, I’m surprised by how many aromatics are in the lineup. But I’m a bit seasoned. One of the all time greats. Honest to goodness. If this one floats the boats I’ll suggest a couple of others. Escudo, Firestorm, Irish Cask, and Orlik Golden Slice. All are easy to come by and boast a high quality. I’m pretty sure our Grandmaster Guru Mutton Chop has videos discussing all about said blends but here’s the skinny: Orlik Golden Slice is a sweet Virginia forward with an almost citrus quality. Irish Cask is a hard one to put down into words, it expresses like a Vaper but has an “antiqueiness” to it that can really delight. Firestorm is just awesome. It can come off a bit sour at times but it usually tastes sweet with a cinnamon character. And of course there’s Escudo. Like the name implies it is simply coins of gold. Cheers!

I didn’t yet had the opportunity to smoke the “new Elisabethan” released by Peterson but, comparing the old one made by Dunhill I find that for the fans of VaPER, the CD products such as Bayou morning, chenet, Oak Alley without mentioning the fantastic product made by GQ tobacco (namely Askwith cake), are more suited to them. Elisabethan is an all day tobacco while all the others are suitable for a rotation. I agree with your comment having in mind (or in the tobacco memory of the brain) the old elisabethan. It’s always a pleasure to follow your shows that are a mine of thoughtful advises.

I just tried it today. It is a slow, cool burn with small hints of flavor. Not very potent to me at all. I only noticed a little burn when I retro-haled. I liked it because it was softer than a lot of others I have recently tried.

⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️ I really enjoy this blend the spice kicks in the background and not too noticeable but reminds me of fresh jalapeños i get a big canned tomato paste flavor like it was spread on artisan toast with butter. Definitely gonna smoke a lot more of this very enjoyable blend.

❤❤❤ new smoker here. I found a 2017 tin at my tobacconist, and it’s the Dunhill version, as it was packed before Peterson got it. I opened this last month when I got it and I have to say, I told myself I would never smoke this again as it was too harsh and I really did not like the pepper. But today, I somewhat enjoy it more, which is why I give it 3/5. I don’t think this is a blend for new pipe smokers, but my taste I think has evolved because this is not as bad as before. I’m using a corncob. Still, I find the perique to be a little too intense for me, but I appreciate the true taste of the tobacco without any topping. I find the flavor to be quite strong and harsh. Nice review, I appreciate learning about a VaPer, so thank you!

I tried Elizabethan because of our good friend Bradley and I realized that I’m not a fan of perique forward blends. I smoked two bowls and mailed the rest to him.

👸👸👸 3/5 not a bad vaper, that's why it's so popular. But for me it's too tangy and spicy and doesn't offer much beyond that. I prefer a stronger presence of dark fruit and hints of fermentation in my vapers.

We are going to London for a few days, will see if they sell it there and we'll try some! While watching this video 👌 Do you do pipe reviews? I'm loving the look of a poker but as I understand they're filterless

🐸🐸 Smells like I’d expect a Virginia to smell. I thought this was relatively unremarkable. Not terrible, but not exactly compelling either. My initial impressions was a soft yet peppery or spicy character. Not much fruit or citrus, and somewhat one-dimensional.

Have you ever done one showing the different stem materials? I was shopping for a new pipe and saw some had lucite and some had vulcanite.

Charatan do their own version called Victorian Mixture which I actually prefer.

😕 I bought this blend a while ago, I forgot about it. I went in my cellar and found it. Unfortunately, I remember why I put it in my cellar. I have found that I’m not a VAPER fan. Oh well, I’ll try it again in another 6 months and see what I think about then. As on now, nope.

Where do you recommend purchasing online? Also, any recommendations for something that’s “just smooth”? I don’t like spicy or sweet, just looking for something pleasant and easy to smoke for a beginner.

Forgive one other comment please … over the past year of learning to smoke pipes, I have at times struggled with the definitions, like ‘English’ for instance. You have mentioned that Peterson’s Elisabethan Mixture is an English. I can see how we might asume ‘Elizabethan’ assumes ‘English,’ but does it? Now, I totally get that these definitions can easily get fuzzy. But most of the time, I believe an ‘English’ contains Latakia. This blend from Peterson does not. I think to really understand a VA/PER one should try smoking a straight or pure Virginia, and then (ideally the same day) smoke a good VA/Per. Similarly, smoke a pure Burley and then a BUR/PER or a BUR/VA/PER … if one can manage all that. For instance, I love Pegasus, but wow its strong stuff, and has some little amount of VA tossed in for some balance. Which is the hard part right? If a blend has a tiny amount of a different tobacco, does that automatically place the blend into a new category? I’d argue that Pegasus, for example, is a burley, even though there are tiny bits of Virginia. What we typically do not know are the percentages of this or that tobacco. I’ve had a number of blends which someone calls an aromatic and another person says is not an aromatic. The one person argues that it has casing or topping, but the second can’t taste that, so how does one review the blend? Thanks for your really excellent videos!!!
