Just seen your wonderful video. We bought a tin of Elisabeth'an Mix recently and I had a similar reaction. My wife likes a smoke occasionally and she had some too but she wasn't that affected. I've had several smokes since and I'm getting used to it now. Nice flavour etc but there's definitely something in that mix that has an explosive reaction . Great video !
RU-vid served me up this video randomly. Brilliant. I subscribed. I had my “Elizabethan moment” with a Cohiba cigar I got in Hong Kong like 20 years ago. Haven’t smoked a cigar since. Only in the last year have I gotten into pipes. Love your videos and look forward to more. Cheers
Elizabethan Mixture is a 50/50 for me. Sometimes I can manage the nicotine but sometimes it puts my stomach into loopdeloops, no matter how much I prepared for it with a nice meal and a sweet drink on hand. It just has to be a hard day but a good day, my stomach wants something light.
I remember that video. Certainly a cautionary tale and hilarious incident after the fact. Well told sir. I dont think ive had vitamin N poisoning to that degree but i did have a cigar sneak up on me while working in a fire tower. I had the wobbly head, shaking hands, sweating profusely and i was weak and hiccuping like a cartoon drunk. It hit me right about the end of my shift. I had to climb down a couple hundred feet of narrow steel ladder in a high wind. When i finally got to the bottom after what seemed like hours i just sat there, head lolling, too weak to unhook myself from the safety cable for 20 minutes untill the cold revived me. Took a abnormally long leak and i was fine directly afterwards. I suppose that was my bodies way of getting rid of the excess N. I didn't smoke anymore cigars in the fire tower. Thanks for the enjoyable video.
As I commented on your original video, Elizabethan Mixture is the only tobacco that has given me the same reaction. It was first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Never again. Someday I'll try it agajn in the evening after a full meal, but I'm not there yet. 15 minutes lying on the couch and a cup of coffee fixed it for me.
Not to that severity but I also did feel quite dizzy smoking Elizabethan Mixture. However, I was able to smoke the full tin in a month or so. (Never purchased a second one). Something similar happened to me with Samuel Gawith 1792 flake tobacco. Unpleasant experiences of a pipe tobacco smoker. Thank you for your video.
this resonated with me…i just recently received my first tin of elizabethan and while i enjoyed that taste it was the first time i’ve gotten nic sick from a pipe tobacco…its happened before from a cigar but this was worse oddly enough. Unfortunate because i actually did enjoy the smoke
Well, I too, tried Elizabethton mixture because of that man over at stuff and things! I too am not a fan of this tobacco, but think it needs to rest for a year after opening.... or is it in time out? Thanks for story! I am going to try it today again. After I shoot my next video on haunted bookshop.
Just found your channel and subscribed, we have all been there but maybe we could stay in bed to recover lol, funniest video I’ve seen in a long time, almost put me off pipe smoking 🤣🤣
Morning, fortunately never had the swimming sick feeling, and I love strong blends, the Nic hit I get makes me skippy happy😂. Like you vomiting doesn’t suit me, food poisoning the other month whoa I was calling for my wife and my mum and woke the house up. I’m 50 reverted to being 4 😂😂
😂 Great story! I myself, not too much an Elizabethan fan-if at all. I recall trying it after, like you, seeing Brad’s channel (Stuff n’ Things), but simply didn’t like the experience.
Funny story. I’ve been smoking a pipe for 50 years and the first time I tried Elizabethan, I got big distress. Almost had to drive the porcelain bus, but I can deal with it now. To this day, I cannot tolerate any burley blend. Thanks, and I’ll keep watching.
I had a similar reaction with HH bold Kentucky. Stuff put me on the couch and had me staring at the ceiling all afternoon. But from a VA/PER? That's pretty rare. I gotta get me some Elizabethan.
VaPers affect me the same way too, VaBurs too, stuff like Irish flake, St Bruno, Erinmore etc.. I can smoke nightcap, quietnights etc fine but I resepect Virginia blends much more. New Subscriber Also, chocolate, jam etc help so much with this
OMG. LOLOLOL Thank you for the good laughs today. Your killing me. If anyone tells you this has never happened to them they are lying. I had it happen to me with a Mark Twain cigar. Made me sicker than a dog. I returned to the same box a couple of months later because I didn't get enough the first time around. This was not a strong cigar, but it got me. I thought I too thought I was an experienced pipe and cigar smoker. 😅
What a weird experience. I've been smoking Elizabethan every morning on an empty stomach for a month or so. I find it to be an absolute joy with my coffee on the drive to work.
😂 holy shit dude, you're an incredible story teller. Nearly pulled a whitey just listening to this on my lunch break. What a visceral trip. Congrats on not ralphing on the bride!
I tried it today no problem. You had me very nervous and I had mentally prepared myself to feel sick. Thanks goodness I am ok. I like other VaPers better anyway.
Just dove head first into pipe tobacco a few months ago, and EM is on the list of backlogged of pipe tobaccos that I've purchased. Been weaving my way through aromatics first, but now you've got me intimidated about some of the other things I bought, lol. Luckily, I'm not brand new to nicotine. I come from the cigar world, where I have definitely flirted with the N sickness with some of the stronger and longer smokes. I'll trade you, story for story. The first cigar I ever had definitely made me sick, but I blame my circumstance and lack of experience on that... The time to try your first cigar is not at a New Year's Eve party, with very little food on your stomach, already a few scotch whiskies deep, and out in the freezing cold with no jacket. I chiefed that poor Romeo Y Julieta down in less than 20 minutes (easily an hour long smoke, normally.) It had this magical effect of turning my Sherry finished scotch on the rocks taste almost like a fruity cotton candy. But immediately after, oh the N sickness kicked hard. No amount of food or water was gonna save me. The rest of the group wanted to watch Bird Box, and a horror/thriller really was not easing my nervous system or making me feel less nauseous. I went to go crash on the floor somewhere to ride out this rocking, spinning ship of horrors. Woke up with the worst tasting ashy, cottonmouth I'd ever experienced, and a headache from hell. And even after all of that, I decided to try cigars again, albeit months later, and with much smaller cigar and a full stomach. I'll take the same precaution with the EM, cheers!
@@Gribley haha actually no, however I did take is slow and smoked in a smaller bowl. Going to have another go tonight or tomorrow. However I’m still a bit hesitant after your experience. Haha
I had this issue with 5 brothers and it nearly kicked my ass. I will never even look at a pouch of 5 brothers again. I feel ya brother. Its a terrible feeling and it just has to take its course until its out of your bloodstream. It SUCKS!!
Hi from a fellow wedding photographer and pipe smoker. This is a really scary story for sure! I used to love Elisabethan and smoked it all the time when it was still available. Never had any issues with it. Sorry for you😮
Nicotine sickness is why i always have peppermints on hand when I'm smoking my pipe. The sugar reacts with the nicotine and helps to get rid of the sickness quickly.
Advice for anyone who might read this: 1. Do NOT keep the vomit in! It's one way of your body to get rid of something that's bad for you. I'm fairly sure if Gribley had let it happen, he wouldn't have been in that agony for so many hours. 2. If you can't eat something (very understandable), try and drink something sugary. It's not that the stomach needs something to do, but the blood sugar level seems to play an important role. I, too, found EM to be on the stronger side. But I've always been fine with a break mid-bowl. Sometimes I laid the pipe off until the next day. But, fortunately!, I never had an experience that bad with any tobacco. Maybe I notice very early when I've had enough nicotine. I don't think that I'm overly tough on the nic front. I like mild and medium tobaccos the most. But a Nightcap never gave me any problems. I almost never had a pipe on an empty stomach, though. Maybe one or two times.
Tobacco can be weird. I'm not a heavyweight at all, but Elizabethan never got me like that. I only had one bowl, but only because I didn't like the blend. However, the first time I had Haunted Bookshop, I'm pretty sure I died a couple of times. I had no issues with it the last time I smoked it. Go figure. Now, Black XX, I will never touch again. EVERY time I smoke it, it's 10 hours of misery.
You've captured that nic-sick feeling flawlessly; those who've not experienced it can't imagine how sweet the concept of death can be. For me, it was 1792 Flake. Bradley from Stuff and Things, however, posted this video and his G. L. Pease Fillmore was your Elizabethan Mixture: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OkD53Hdyhf8.html.
Funny I got into Elizabethan after watching SaT as well I love the stuff and smoke it regularly now. Never once felt a large hit of nic from the stuff.
Honey, maple syrup, or a coke are the quickest ways to address nicotine sickness. The nicotine lowers your blood sugar and that’s what causes the reaction.
I have a prolem with Perique. I give it a wide birth. I can easily handle any heavy Latakia blend, and have, with no problem. I love them. But i cannot tolerate Perique in my decrepitude.
Man. Something else was going on there. So wierd. I'm pretty weak to nicotine and I've had my share of hugging my knees in bed but never like this or that long. 😅
It is one of 2 tobaccos that made me sick the other being haunted bookshop! Now you know why dogs eat out the cat litter, their just trying to tell us how full of shit we all are!
