Forest Whitetaker deserved the oscar that year. His performance was by far superior. Decaprio was nominated for the best actor and it's a big achievement.
That was a crazy year though going against Whitaker, Smith in Pursuit and Gosling was so fucking good in Half Nelson. Leo was amazing no doubt but Whitaker was epic.
@@KonradvonHotzendorf Probably because Rhodesia collapsed under pressure from the USA, USSR, Britain, China, Cuba, half of the continent and Israel. After that is was no place to live, and the SADF wanted professional infantrymen
@@KonradvonHotzendorf I haven't heard it went 'good' at all, and besides it was bound to collapse for the same reasons RSA is now. The people who inherited power are more suited to running a tribe than a modern advanced nation
@@pevebe Then educate them. The Rhodesian did, we taught them enough to not get run over in traffic Zimbabwean used to be well educated But 1980 to 1990 it seem Zimbabwe was going to be a success In 2000 we had bins at every Pharmacy to donate period pads as Zim girls where using tree bark and animal fur I got a trillion dollar note from my Rhodesian friend But the first 10 years it looked positive
Not the bit about Liberia not having any diamonds. Liberia does have diamond deposits, so much so that one of the county flags of the country has a giant diamond on it.
No. Muck like JFK was produced to throw people of the real scent. How many people figured out that the Kimberley Process was actually to cement the existing monopoly. ---s you lose.
@@desperateneedofscotch Yes, we do. Rhodesia exists only in the deluded minds of old, demented fusty white supremacists who can only circlejerk to something that will never exist again.
In this day and age, I feel like the diamond industry is no longer receiving clients thanks to Millenials, and as one, I support this. Were I to ever buy one, which is highly unlikely, I'd make sure it is not exported from Europe or Africa.
They cut it off before the best part of the scene. Right after this, Danny hops on the bar and yells "I'm the king of the world" and Maddy gets so upset she starts doing heroin.
for me dialogues is very important for movies and series because they add depth to characters thats why danny archer is one of my favorite characters and thats 1 of the reasons why i love blood diamond a lot
I remember when this movie came out time magazine said we'll know if this movie had an impact based on how many diamonds celebrities would be wearing at the next Oscars. At the next oscars an actress was wearing a dress made entirely out of diamonds.
People hate wokeness and political correctness for a reason. They claim they know what is "right" and yet those same people do the complete opposite themselves.
@@Apelles42069absolutely he does. It’s like how Americans get addicted complaining about slavery and worker abuse yet they still buy the same piece of metal (phones) and cars every damn year.
Mr. Archas protective instincts "You know in America it's Bling Bling but out here it's Bling Bang hah! I wouldn't want you getting in any trouble hah." Once he finds out she's a journalist. "Piss Off Hah!"
His acting is on par with Phillip Seymour, Cumberbatch, and Chimetel. Amazing performing. Amazing. And he mastered that accent especially at the end when firing at rebels from atop the mountain and he said “yah, yah”. That was so South African per my SA friend
It's South Africans like Trevor Noah that don't pay attention and think he's portraying a South African. He is Rhodesian and thays a brilliant Rhodesian accent. Terrible South African accent.
Then make yourself interesting and stop waiting for one to think being a “nice guy” is a turn on. Do something interesting with your life. Get in great shape. Fuck start a business. Women want the wallet my dude. Unless you’re dating women from the east, it’s all about the wallet so get crackin.
A rare scene of political discussion in this particularly violent movie. But this scene does have good meaningful dialogue. Archer: "American?" Maddy: "Guilty" Archer: "Americans usually are." Archer: "You've come here to make a difference?" Maddy: "And you're here to make a buck?" Archer: "I'm here for lack of as better idea." Archer: "You come here with lap top computer, malaria medicine and little bottles of hand sanitizer and think you're going to change the outcome." "Were in business together; get over yourself darling." Maddy: "Yeah, it's a shit-shit world, but you know what? Good things are done everyday, just apparently, not by you."
Soon as he drops on her the truth bomb, she begins attacking him. Truth is Maddy would be wearing a blood diamond on her wedding day, or attending someone's wedding with people wearing blood diamonds. Archer is a businessman, Maddy is a hypocrite and a desperate careerist.
Right lol, her character is literally just being a stubborn white woman that works for a socialist publisher owned by people that went to capitalist universities and country clubs to give people non-nuanced information about what’s happening in a third world country that no one cares about. The peak representation of western journalism
What a bad take. She's a journalist trying to expose a multinational corporation for profiting from the suffering and death of hundreds of thousands of people in Africa, how is she the antagonist in your opinion?
@Funnymanphilly probably because she thinks it'll win her a Pulitzer or something, then she's off to her first world country to find another self aggrandising cause to champion.
I was on a cruise and i love accents. This guy i heard his accent from a ways away and i walk over and say "you are Rhodesian" he took mild offense and i corrected and said Zimbabwe. We chatted for half an hour. He hated mugabe but loved his country
I met a Rhodesian in a pub in Scotland. Had a nice chat about the Bush war and his role as a pharmacist meaning he was not conscripted. Happy to have met a Rhodie
Until i watched this film, didn't know that Zimbabwe was formerly Rhodesia. Went to show me how much i needed to learn, & how much news was centred on Europe, America, & OPEC
@@lightmeupacigarette She'd have been 34 here which means she was already 9 years over his dating limit, lmao. Recently watched her in Snowpiercer and god she's still so incredibly stunning.
@@wecandoit9370 It means that she might get killed if she's careless and asks too many questions. Also a larger reference to how American corporate interest and greed is deadly to people who are not as lucky and they're willing to kill their own brethren for mere crumbs of the pie which is showcased by the rebels treatment of the civilians and the human cost of civil war.
I loved his response when she said, “we call it Zimbabwe now” and he says, “do we?” I thought TIA was a myth, until I went to SA many years ago. I heard it more than I care to recall.
0:15 where the fuck is his Academy award?! Fuck the revenant. This movie was amazing. One of the guys in my platoon came from one of these diamond mines. His stories would put you on the floor. I was there.
This is the first movie where l felt that Leo played a MAN. Before this, his roles were more of the thin, young, pretty boy type of characters. Great film & story with some great acting - across the board!
Every time I think of Maddy played by Jennifer Connelly I always think my photojournalist professor Dr B. My professor is a photojournalist who have spent extensive time covering Mexico and Guatemala.
