I have edited a compacter version of this video, see link at the bottom.
After reading many pro's and con's for the RaceChip I decided to try one out myself. I opted for the cheapest version, the 'S', since the other versions get so expensive that they rival a proper tune, which would have my preference. The Racechip S is rated for an additional 34HP and 52Nm. The stock 320i has 184HP and 270Nm so total output including de Racechip should be 218HP and 322Nm.
The 0-100 time for the manual transmission should be 7,9 sec stock. I never got a better time than 8,3 sec measured using a Dragy. With the Racechip S installed I managed to achieve a 0-100 time of 7,3 sec shaving an impressive 1 second off.
However, 1 second on 8 seconds is 12,5% faster and quite hard to really notice. The biggest gain is in the mid range between 3000-5500 rpm. The car feels slightly more powerful.
On the other hand, my automatic N20 328i should do 0-100 in 6,0 seconds according to factory specs but I never got it faster than 6,3 seconds and that was using Launch Control. Without Launch Control, I never got it faster than 6,9 seconds on the 0-100 time. That does put the 7,3 sec of the 320i with the Racechip into perspective.
I think it is hard to determine whether to recommend such a box but for the price it is not breaking the bank either. The price is low and the gain is medium.
