Viel mij reuze mee, heb een 728iA gereden die reed stukken beter dan de 730 vanwege het grotere zuigeroppervlak en dus betere koppelgrafiek.

I religiously get 20.4mpg on my 2001 740i Sport, and about 1/2 mpg more on my 2001 740iL.

I had a 97 540i/6 and got about 21 mpg. I have about a 30 mile trip to work and it's mostly highway

Is het M52 blok. Zat ook in de E36, E39 en E46 (zie andere Autoblog video's). Staat bekend als een erg betrouwbaar blok. De M54 (de update) staat zelfs bekend als één van de meest betrouwbare i6 blokken ooit gemaakt. Het grootste probleem van beide motoren is het koelsysteem. Het wordt in deze video ook genoemd. Het probleem is dat de vinnen van de waterpomp afbreken. Als gevolg daarvan wordt je koelvloeistof niet meer rondgepompt en raakt je blok overhit. Daarom zeggen ze dat je elke zoveel duizend kilometer de pomp en thermostaat preventief moet vervangen, want als je niet op tijd door hebt dat je motor te heet wordt heb je kans op vervorming. Dan kun je in principe het blok weg gooien. Er zijn revisies geweest op de pomp en ook non-OEMs die verbeterde pompen hebben gemaakt die dit probleem niet hebben. Zelf vervangen is goed te doen (en vervang dan ook meteen de leidingen), maar laten doen is prijzig. Je bent al gauw richting de 800 euro kwijt. Andere problemen zijn relatief makkelijk te verhelpen en hebben geen grote gevolgen voor de motor verder. Ze lekken wel eens wat olie, met name bij de klepdeksel. Dat ruik je vaak in de auto bij rijden op lage snelheden. BMW heeft gelukkig een niveau sensor en geen druksensor. Dus je krijgt tijdig een waarschuwing als je olie bijgevuld moet worden (oranje lampje = 1 liter olie bijvullen). Als alles goed is verbruiken de blokken eigenlijk geen olie. Verder wil de motor wel eens onregelmatig lopen bij stationair. Is meestal een probleem met je vacuum. Opnieuw niets waarbij je je zorgen hoeft te maken over een kapot blok, maar kost bij de dealer toch al gauw een 400 tot 600 euro om te laten repareren. Iedere M52/M54 loopt tegen dit probleem aan rond de 150k/200k kilometers. Het probleem is het ergste met koud weer. Weinig problemen mee dus, alleen dat waterpomp dingetje is iets om echt in de gaten te houden. Aan de andere kant kun je het ook weer zien als een goed ding om over te onderhandelen bij aanschaf.

Gijsbert Vandeweerdt , mijn vraag eigenlijk was , hoe geraak ik aan die dagteller? , ik weet dat je via de sia-interval aan een dagteller kunt geraken , maar is dit dan ook wat hij bedoelt? zo niet waar kan ik dit terugvinden?

Je hebt een totale teller (je weet wel: de km stand) en een tripteller die je kan resetten met het knopje op het tellerwerk zelf. Die tripteller bedoelt hij. (Daar hoef je niet via een menu naar toe in ieder geval)

All cars from that Era are old now. But if you know how to twist bolts to loosen or tighten them you can fix any car. Indeed parts are not cheap, i have a E38 728I (blacksevene38) on instagram, Mine had 45 electrical issues now it has only 1 which is the headlight regulator on driver side. I've saved 7400 euros by fixing it myself. And It's a car that's rare and retains it's price well. And in 10+ years if the car has good maintance the price will shoot up in value, and the safety of the E38 is superb, try surviving a hard crash in a Toyota, and if you say subarus and lexuses are safe compared to E38's then no. Yes Mercedes's are safe but if i want to drive one i can order a Taxi. Volvos are purely boring, and hellish to work on. Bmw's are not the best to work on, i would give that award to subarus. But if you are a BMW enthusiast then the E38 is a beutiful car, and a special car that bonds extremely well to it's driver. It encourages the driver with it's features.

Well the argument for my volvo ''banter'' is because in 1999 volvo was sold to Ford, and ford wanted to make them more market competitive after their low numbers really made them sell the company. I live in Norway and have quite the experience with those cars because they're made in Sweden, so a Volvo from the same Era as the E38 are really only one way workable, you pick it apart but break so much clips and plastic bobs that you need to secondhand order them or craft around it. I worked on a V70 2000 model and the entire construction including the interior and wheel wells had that cheap feel to it that you did not feel with the older generation volvos, such as the 1980s 240 and 242 models. They have extremely reliable engines but every engine on the market has it's faults. The M52 and M54 BMW engines are reknown for being RPM realiable but ofc they have some starter issues and bad valvecover seals. That can be contributed to when BMW decided to make the E46 which is the worst car I've ever worked on, the entire thing wants to break apart. The one thing you have to know is that I'm not complaining about cars just to complain or ''fanboy''. I'm stating valuable information of maintanence by doing it yourself. Mercedeses from the 1995 - 2001 era that were competing with the E38 was the W220 which by modern standards looks outdated. This was the Era where car manufacturers wanted to start making cheap cars, to apeal to the market. But Bmw did not want to follow that mindset. Until the E46 came and bmw decided to follow that mindset. ( Huge mistake IMO ) And the reason they were being used as taxis is that mercedes has always had good deals for taxi companies, this statement is true as mercedes always have been a fan of being a huge market for public transport. Mercedes cars from that era are extremely prone to have chassis rust and bad suspension setups that have control arms that work like chicken wings, they get rusty, brittle then crack. Along with some of the worst radiator setups money can buy. Thing like chassis rust and underbody work is not really that doable for your average car person who buys a car just to drive it. Therefor the price of a BMW E38 is ''reasonable'' if you can afford one, because the parts that are prone to breaking are easy to access, you rarely need to lift the e38 up into the air, unless the exhaust brackets rust apart which is pretty much all the 1995-2001 bmws ( E36 E38 E39 E46 ). Subarus and toyotas are brilliant cars to work on by all means subaru has really had the average garage guy in mind when designing their cars. Easy, cheap and comfortable to work on. But toyotas are not extremely reliable, if you want a realiable toyota from that era it is a working horse car such as the hilux, most of their saloons ( camry corolla ) from the 2000s rust as if they were designed at the factory to rust, their engines always run on the otherhand. but it's usually a christmas tree whenever you buy a used old corolla. you can have a reliable engine all you want in a toyota but if you have to change out the suspension every 75.000km then be my guest. Alongside when the suspension rots away so does the paint on the cars, their primer is some of the worst in the business in this era. Their bodywork rust extrely much too, this is also hard for a home garage mechanic to fix and paint is not cheap, I'm fortunate that i know how to respray cars but renting a paint booth will leave you with sore pockets. The things that are hard to do for your average home mechanic is the things non car people should steer away from. I just really grumpy when i read abou car manufactures such as toyota and subaru being compared to BMW in this era. This was no doubt BMW's best Era, this was the Era where BMW truly had a lead in the automotive world. I would not have been grumpy if this was a statement about all the manufacturers you named in a modern view. In a modern view is when your statement is completely true. in 2006 mercedes was truly number one in comfort, no disagreeing. But that's Mercedes era and if you continue to today (2017) all modern cars are on the same level, ofcourse a toyota will never be a mercedes S class. But toyota have started to do amazing things. But I don't like modern cars because they remove the driver from the road and cocoon them in safety and electronics. When you get in a car from the 2000s you feel the road, in modern times BMW has just become another brand using their old reputation to still stay valid, if you care about design that's called personal taste. But most modern cars follow the same design princible, and you often see cars that look like a toyota or a bmw and when you get close it's a KIA or a Nissan. So In a modern view it's hard to care what you get aslong as it drives, and most modern cars they've made hard to work on from the factory so you have to pay them extra to fix them which is why modern cars piss me off. But that's just my view on modern cars as a whole.
