Got to love the 95 bmw 740 . Double row timing chains and cog gear on chains . Doesn't suffer timing chain guides failure also runs the v12 auto tranny to . Only negative is no vanes not as much torque as the later m62
@@mastakilla9783 not true, the automatics at BMW at that time were one of the best and fastest on the market which you could purchase And were very ahead of their time...
Here all the bad ones are scrapped or exported to Russia, Eastern Europe or Africa.. The few good ones are in collectors garages.. They are almost impossible to find. There is not 3 cars for sale on a hole year of the E38.
To keep an E38 in good condition is very very expensive. Cars are at least 22 years old. Lots of worn out and degeneration of suspensionparts. Lots of electronic issues ass well. I owned a 750iA for 10 years from new but it was a money pit.
@@andersnielsen6044 I own and daily drive my e38 here in the states. To say it is a money pit is an understatement. Mine is a 1997 with the m62TU. They still require new timing chains every 100k miles. water pumps and radiators every 60k miles. the engine block itself has never had any issues, but it requires new oil gaskets once every year or two. fuel pump goes out like clockwork every 40k miles. Because of its age, it takes near constant upkeep of the interior and exterior trim pieces. 3 of 4 exterior door handles have fallen off and needed replacement, all due to a tiny clip that secures it to the door. However I must say, it has 275,000 miles on its original transmission. Although the worst part is, due to the cars weight, it requires a suspension refresh almost annually. I replace the control arms every other year, which is normal according to the e38's maintenance book. During the last 6 months of this period, the car always develops the "55 mph shimmy" or harsh vibration at freeway speeds. Since its an old car, its inexpensive to insure. But I still end up spending $2,000-$4,000 a year on upkeep. Its also terrible on gas, average 16 mpg. Sometimes its worth it, sometimes not so much. I often contemplate getting a newer car, but i only consider this when i'm not driving it. When Im on the road, I never think about replacing it.
I learnt how to drive in a manual E38, but with a modest 2.8 inline six. Great fun, though, and plenty powerful for a young lad with more testosteron than self-preservation instinct ;)
It's a M60 engine so obviously pre-facelift, which means the manual transmission is stock. Only with the introduction of the facelift you couldn't order anything else than automatic transmissions for the V8/V12 engines.
Das Very Good 260 KMH = 160 MPH That's what i was Expecting Here Scottsdale-Phoenix Arizona years ago there was a lot nice clean E38 740I i used to work on a lot of them Thought be Cool to have one with Manual Trans was yours Converted from Auto to Manual or could you buy 740 w/Manual Trans in Germany i know you can E38 735i 6 Zyl Cheers Prost
The fun fact is that it reach 240 on 5th gear ad just 250 on 6th because its limited. Without limitation and with e60 complete intake and remail it will reach 280kmh
@@paperandmedals8316 A Merc E200 diesel with only 136 hp goes 200 km/h with 3000 rpm's.. That is what luxury cars are made for.. Not for impressing anyone with its noise :D
