Part II showing the latch after successfully opening the stuck hood. Adding to the original source for the fix which is Scott P here on RU-vid, thanks!
After doing this I decided that I would update my cables and added a homemade emergency pull cable attached to the lock itself so now all I have to do is pop the grill off and pull the cable I made and BAM! it opens.
Thank You So Very Much. I guess I'm not the only one with a stuck hood on my '08 X5 and a BMW mechanic telling me I have to leave the car with him and he'll let me know when he can get to it.
I had to drill/cut some plastic away near where you were counting down the ribs....finally got it open. Serviced the car...and the latch stuck again! I put a ton of WD40 and lithium grease on it.... maybe it'll jostle loose again? If not..
Check where the cable meets the latch, it may be slipping out. You may have to use a zip tie to secure it in place so it doesn’t slip out of the housing. I did that for mine.
$3!!! 😀😁😃Worked great! Wondering if the grease worked? Unfortunately I had to take off the lock latch on the hood. The release mechanism doesn't move by pulling the release in the car after adding WD-40 a few times.
worked for me,the trick may be putting a slight bend in the rod and very slight bend down at the end to go under the cover. My cable was discounted I tired to remove that latch on it(2013 X5) like building a ship in a bottle-yes another stupid design from BMW (aka "bring more money")
Take out the right side grill piece you can actually do the same thing, but with far less trouble as there's nothing in the way or blocking your vision otherwise.
Mine just happen. I have a 2009 BMW X 5 3.0i drive. Mine is the Driverside that won't open. I saw several with the passenger side. I went and buy the rod, but no one on RU-vid shoe the Driverside.
