I've just carried out full caliper clean on my GSA (first attempt at this) and you can remove the pads first (after you've taken the retaining pin out) and then the caliper will come out without the need to remove the rear wheel. Just a suggestion....... Makes the job much faster a bit less hassle...... Great video though. Many thanks

Hi Jonny. Thanks for watching and your comment. Yes agree should be able to do that but I knew mine weee pretty much stuck in as I had tried that in between takes during filming. Mine were stuck until I I was able to take the calliper. Thanks again 👍

Thanks for your video. I tend to do this twice a year before European trips, front and back. You can save yourself a lot of work by running your hose through the calipers after winter rides (and the rest of the bike!).

Hey Woodster. Thanks for watching and your comment. Totally agree and I believe that it is something all bikers should be able to do. Ride safe. Billy

To help you get the rear wheel out,try placing the centre stand on a 1 inch thick piece of wood. Great video,keep em coming.

HI Colin. Will give that a try tomorrow as it is a right royal pain. Thankfully I don't do it that often and I do look on the glass half full side of things when I do have to do as I usually take the opportunity to give the bikes rear end a good clean whilst the exhaust and the wheel is off. Thanks for watching and your suggestion and comments. Cheers. Billy

I too have the Akrapovic exhaust, you dont need to remove it to remove the rear wheel. Put the centre stand on a piece of wood, say 15-20mm ( you can still put the bike on centre stand) and that will obviously raise wheel higher off the ground which then allows you to remove rear wheel to the floor and then out withe bottom of the tyre slide across the floor and under the Akrapovic. Saves alot of time and mucking about. I have the large Wunderlich Easy Park ( on wheels) and do my service with bike on that as i am limited for garage space and i can then move bike around on it to get to the other side of the bke easily, this also gives me the extra ground clearance to allow me to remoe the rear wheel without removing exhaust. Keep videos coming. Thanks

Impressive and ever, but I am more impressed that your gloves stayed whole. Mine seem to rip to shreds within 2 mins :-)

You should put Molly grease on the rear of the brake pads when you replace them, to stop any squeaking. You should also push out the pistons most of the way and then clean them with brake fluid before pushing them back in.

The pads on the Brembo brakes can be slipped out with the caliper mounted. If they are out, there is enough "wriggle room" to lift off the caliper without removing the back wheel - at least it works that way on my RS. You blokes in the UK really have a problem with winter debris and corrosion. You know you could avoid all of that problem, and get a 365 day riding year by coming to Oz!

Hi Mark. Thanks for watching and your comments. Unfortunately on this occasion the pads were well and truly stick in there. so had to remove the callipers. I lived in Oz for 10 years until 2014 when personal reason brought me back. But year winter is a bitch here but I don't let that stop me hence why i get stuck in with my bike and try to do a lot myself. Ride safe. Billy

I'll try that next time, just did mine yesterday for the 2nd time. Last time I did a tyre change so the wheel was already out. Yesterday I just tried taking the caliper off but got stuck on the spokes so had to take the wheel off luckily it's easy to do. So next caliper clean I'll try to get the pads out first. Mind you it might be a hassle trying to get the pads back in while the caliper is on the bike, might end up taking as much time as taking the wheel off which is 5 bolts 5 min. Just had an idea! I probably could do with just backing all the bolts out a couple of centimeters and pushing the wheel off to the right. That might be all it needs instead of taking the whole thing off hmmmm

Either way, it means we get to tinker with our bikes 😁👍

I'm finding that the left side brake pad , the one that has direct contact with the pistons , wears much more quickly than the right hand side. Do you have any thoughts as to why that could be ?

Thanks for the video. Which offroad tyres do you have back there?
@BillysBikeAdventures
@BillysBikeAdventures 2 года назад
Hi Pedro. Thanks for watching and your question. The tyres are for my Tenere 700, Motoz Tractionator GPS. Cheers. Billy
@BillysBikeAdventures
@BillysBikeAdventures Год назад
@@Bibilics thanks for watching and you question. The Motoz went on to my Tenere 700. The rear tyre was an absolute pain and I ended up taking it to a garage for fitting as I could just not get the damn thing on. Front wheel was much easier. Their great to be honest. They are the Tractionator GPS version so have a continuous solid centre grip, the regular Tractionators don't are are much more knobbly. I will try those net time. But no complaints form me on the ones I have, very happy so far. Cheers. billy

Would your wheel come off easier if you let the air out of the tyre?
@BillysBikeAdventures
@BillysBikeAdventures 2 года назад
Hi Jason. Thanks for watching. A good suggestion but tried and failed unfortunately. It's a bit of a chore but I get to give the exhaust and other bits of the bike hard to access whilst wheel and exhaust on a fun good clean so always an upside to these things. Cheers. Billy

Just watching your video and noticed that the second split pin is not in the same orientation as the other one and more importantly not in the right place .

You don't need to remove rear wheel
@BillysBikeAdventures
@BillysBikeAdventures 2 года назад
I needed to as the brake pads were a little stubborn to come out and not have if these out meant I had to remove the wheel to get the calliper off. If just changing brake pads and they pop out easily, correct 👍

Most of you guys fail to state which year is the bike, they are NOT all the same. This would save us all a waste of time watching videos that don't apply to our bikes.
