Easy service for those who are gifted and enjoy what they do. The surgeon's expertise and the operating room environment that is his workshop are impressive. Inspiration for many, an example of commitment and dedication for me. Greetings from Brazil.

I've never been a good mechanic but your videos have given me the confidence to begin maintaining my 2011 R1200gs rather than relying on the horrible service I have received from my BMW dealer. Your videos have very good angles and close ups that I can follow easily. Also like the pace of your work which is very methodical and well illustrated. I'm now looking forward to keeping my motorcycle in much better shape to prevent major repairs. Thanks so much for your willingness to share your knowledge.

Enjoying your videos 👍. It's always interesting to see how other people tackle the same jobs. I usually use a scissor jack under the FD rather than hanging it up. Curious that you didn't use any Staburags on the concertina gaitor? It looks like you used nothing? I used a different 'grease' once and it was rubbish, water got in...but because i do this job regularly, it wasn't a big deal. No water inside before or since using the right grease!

Hey there. Fantastic video's on teh GS. I have just bought a 2005, and want to get all the serviceing completed, so am watching all your video's. Should I use some kind of sealant on the rubber gasket edges, where the gasket touches the frame? Thanks, Jon
@gordonhenderson1708
@gordonhenderson1708 2 года назад
Applying a lite bead of waterproof grease around both ends of the rubber boot, where it meets the driveshaft housing and where it meets the final drive, creates a nice seal to keep water and other contaminants out.

BMW recomments to take a new screw to connect to the paralever. New screws are prepared with red loctite. Locite 243 is too weak for the screw as seen in the screwer handbooks. For the LC you need the green one. And what about the upper splines? Won't you grease them?

Great video. Very clear. I was wondering why you didn't also do the spline at the other end. Was it because the rear spline was in such great shape or did you just not plan to do it? I have seen some videos where they do both and some where they only do the rear one.

Did your GS have a plastic ring that sits in the driveshaft housing side of the boot? My (2010) GSA has one. Also, I forgot to plug the ABS sensor hole and lost most of the gear oil when I dropped the rear differential down.

Salut OldMechanic !

@motocomfort_de

Hi Judy, it must be a molybdenum paste. The temperature of the splines while riding make greases become liquid and they will drop down.
@Steve.Miller
@Steve.Miller Год назад
Interesting that you use Bel-Ray Assembly lube. Does it have moly in it? I have so long heard Honda Moly 60 or Staraburg. I also have a tube of Polaris Moly grease that has fairly good moly content. Hmm...
@TheOldMechanic
@TheOldMechanic Год назад
Hi Steve, the Bel-Ray I use has the same amount of moly as the Honda moly have. But these days I can't find the same Bel-ray assembly lube that I use anymore.. perhaps the have one in place.

I am surprised you use anti-seize compound on the spline. is it recommended by BMW? There is micro slipping there and the compound may act as a grinding agent. I have used bearing grease. And I would use vinyl gloves ;)
@TheOldMechanic
@TheOldMechanic 2 года назад
Hi Fabio, the Bel-ray I use is very good for this aplication, as it contains MOS2, and don't worry it doesn't grind. I wouldn't use just bearing greas as the splines are pushed together with a lot of force, and bearing grease is not made for that purpose. greets from The Old Mechanic and ride save
