Great video as always! Holy SMOKES = 6000 mile trip. Spit, Gag, Puke = $600 brake job 🤣 Love to know the destination of this short trip you're embarking upon also. Be well and safe travels.
Okay got it haha! Lead a tour from San Diego to Cabo and back last month and heading to Houston to visit my mom (Route 66 as much as possible). That is easily 6k miles. The dealer would charge $600, but I did it myself for $100!
Did you check the fluid? Level, its cheep and doesn't take long to flush. If I do ABS brakes, I open the bleed screw before I twist them so I avoid pushing fluid back up the system. Most OEM shop manuals recommend this. Were the discs nice and smooth with no grooves. Did you check if they were still in tolerance. With a caliper. All lot of shops just replace discs, or skim them, you don't have to. If they are still in tolerance. You should check JIK. If they are to thin they may not cool quick enough. I wouldn't use the tooth brush. I would have soaked the calipers in brake cleaning fluid, I don't know if those pads contain asbestos. I'd suggest not taking the risk of breathing in brake dust JIK.
That’s good feedback. I’m releasing a brake fluid flush video next week. I don’t know where to find the acceptable tolerance for the brake pads. Nonetheless, I had a 6k mile trip planned so replaced them anyway.
@@PacMoto Unfortunately I don't have a copy of the shop manual. My bike is a late 17 1200 with Brembo brakes. Min Thick 4mm is stamped on front disk. Rear was to awkward, I will have to unlock bike and move it. The BMW branded brakes or other model years might be different. I have seen 4.5mm posted by some owners. Mine are a bit rough, probably got a lot of grit and calcite in them from the dempster.
hi, I'm due to change the brake pads on my S1000xr and it takes the same pads are the GS1250. And need to decide what to put. My question is does it affect that much the brake power if i dont go with original/bremboones? they are the double of the price comparing with SBS 900hs . I ride on all weather Cheers
