The throw from the left field wall to home plate on a dime was simply unbelievable.That throw will be shown for generations to come as one the greatest throw outs in major league HISTORY.

That is the all time greatest throw. I have watched baseball over forty years. Never seen a throw like that. Most ridiculous fing throw. I have ever seen. Nobody behind that. Catch the bounce bare handed. Turn and rifle a perfect strike to home freaking plate. The throw was perfect. I mean that was not human. Reynolds was fast. Had a great jump. Just wow. Never seen anything like that.

@@davidcook680I agree 💯. The list for greatest outfield throws starts and ends with that one. Especially when you add in the layers that Harold Reynolds (who had won a stolen base title or two) was running on the pitch, and had he scored, the game was over. Bo Jackson literally saved the game with that colossal throw, and the Royals ended up winning that game an extra innings.

I did some rudimentary math and observation. I had the throw at ~300 feet at 2.40 seconds. That's 125 feet per second or 85 mph. Again, that's a 300-foot throw moving at 85 mph. Phenomenal.
@el34glo59
@el34glo59 2 года назад
Absolutely insane. What's also insane is how it's all arm alot of the time. Flat-footed
@ImGoingSupersonic
@ImGoingSupersonic 2 года назад
And to keep that ball near the end to close to 85mph traveling that far really is phenomenal. Many people can throw 85mph, but for about 100 feet. This guy tripled that. Not to mention the accuracy.
@Bryan_Lion
@Bryan_Lion 2 года назад
Accounting for wind resistance, at initial release, the ball may have been traveling at over 100 mph when it left his hand. Would 85 mph be an average or mean velocity?
@richiehunt5097
@richiehunt5097 2 года назад
@@Bryan_Lion you're correct. Funny because I was watching videos on outrfield throws and their velocity the other day and realized I didn't consider that they measure it from the ball releasing the hand. The 85 mph would be the rough mean velocity and I felt that was a little on the conservative side. I'm guessing that if you measured from the release of the hand it was probably in the 104-108 mph range.
@trackcoachmac
@trackcoachmac Год назад
Also, its not shown well in video but Harold Reynolds said he jumped or just kind of spun to throw it. He didn't plant his feet. He didn't get a crow hop etc. Think about how strong you would have to be to do that. Shortstops do that kind of play and struggle to get any velocity on it from the apron.

Bo's throw from deep left field to home plate has to be one of the best (I would say the best) throws of all time. Of course, I have not seen them all, but what human being would even attempt to make that throw. Perhaps only Bo, which is why he is a singularly remarkable figure among the pantheon of greatest athletes to ever walk this planet.

Baseball is full of 300+ foot throws. It is not something only Bo Jackson could do.
@scottjackson638
@scottjackson638 10 месяцев назад
@@bauerj3398 You missed the point. The throw was a strike thrown from the warning track in left field to home plate without a moment of hesitation.
@bauerj3398
@bauerj3398 10 месяцев назад
@@scottjackson638 I am addressing the ludicrous statement that it was the 'best throw of all time', and even more ludicrous that only Jackson would attempt it. The simple fact that players make 300 foot throws in the majors all the time, bypassing the cut-off, means that statement is nonsensical. Simply put, it was a great throw, but any suggestion that Jackson was the only one capable and/or willing to do it, is nonsense.
@scottjackson638
@scottjackson638 10 месяцев назад
@@bauerj3398 Notice that the ball caromed off the wall, and Bo turned and fired flat-footed with no crow hop or running start. Bo released the ball from just inside the warning track, 310' away about the time Harold Reynolds rounded third base. Royals catcher Bob Boone was already walking off the field when he realized Bo was going to try to make the throw. The throw reached Boone in the air, in the strike zone, who tagged out Reynolds. Reynolds later said that it was the "greatest throw in the world." Others have made the exact same claim, including a number of major league players and coaches. Notice that announcer made the statement "he can't do it" because it looked impossible to make the throw. The coaches protested after the play because making the throw seemed impossible. The fans went nuts because the throw seemed impossible. The play lives in history among baseball fans because the throw seems impossible. In interviews, this throw has been mentioned repeatedly because it seemed impossible. Again, I never said that only Bo was able to make that throw. Further, I never said that only Bo would attempt it. But of course, Bo did try to make the throw and he succeeded. Your aggression doesn't make you right, it just makes you aggressive.
@bauerj3398
@bauerj3398 10 месяцев назад
@@scottjackson638 First of all, he most definitely stepped into the throw, as he gathered the ball at the seam of the warning track and released the ball a fall stride onto the outfield 'grass'. So, are you sincerely so ignorant of the game as to pretend Bo Jackson is the only person who can throw a baseball 310 feet? Oh wait, you are are also saying he is the only one would even try it.
@danarrington2224
@danarrington2224 3 года назад
That's just pure talent. He didn't really have great form on any of those throws and he still threw them out. You can practice and work as hard as you want but it's tough to beat straight up pure talent. He was an All-Star in 2 sports and If not for the hip injury he would have made the Hall of Fame in both sports as well. Yep. He's the greatest athlete we will ever see.
@TT-wb3ke

@chipclatto8831
@chipclatto8831 Год назад
@@TT-wb3ke You are 100% correct! Wilt, Jim Thorpe, MJ, Dion, etc. none had Bo's overall elite athletic qualifications of speed, strength, vertical, agility, power, and the ability to be an All-Star in TWO different major sports. You are not supposed to throw out a speedy runner from the warning track on the fly to home plate, hit a home run with basically one hand because the ump won't grant you a timeout, run 90 yard TD's in the NFL, and make the other players look like they were in high school. And don't forget...he had NO football training camp or pre-season games, just stepped on the damn field and dominated!

Two points: 1) Regarding the first play on the video, the announcer initially said, "The Royals got a break on that one," meaning because the home plate umpire was out of position. What is implied by this is that the runner was really out, but Bo indeed nailed him! And the announcer did indeed concede a few seconds later that the runner was indeed out. 2) Holy Holy: if you guys slow the last play of the video down to .25, you will see that the base runner's hand was maybe millimeters, not centimeters, from touching the plate, if he indeed did not actually touch it. Amazing how close it was if you slow it down. And if indeed he was out, I don't think he would have been out if a mere mortal would have thrown that cannonball! Bo, you were and are an inspiration! Thank you if you are reading this.

Dude threw like 100 mph on some throws...obviously couldn't pitch...but straight gun. Why the throw out at 1st isn't on here is a huge missed opportunity

Because the dweeb who made this video wasted a whole minute and a half on the first throw and its aftermath.
