Hello.....this may sound like a stupid question....and I know each system has it's own requirements. But I would like to know what makes or how did u acquire the label of Grandmaster? I have always been under the impression that a GM was one at the very top of a system......Say someone that has invented or produced something......not someone that took something already invented that someone else thought them.......I hope this question is not taken as mean spirited....that is the last thing I am trying to do.....I only as because I see a lot of people online with the title of GM and they look in my opinion like GM = Great Miracles in their movements as well as explanations of their art.....Not that u look or explain anything like them.....thanks for taking the time to read my question
I actually self learned how to do this, but wanted to find a video on how to do it properly (I end up spinning stuff too fast that it flies out of my hand because my hand can’t keep up with the speed lol)
@potato it may look like it would shield you, but your eyes just don't see something at that speed. It would probably not even hit the staff or go through the staff, very unlikely it will shield you though..
Cool trivia time. The item under the name "Bo" translates to staff. It originally came from Okinawa and was adopted into Japanese martial arts. The bow on the other hand shoots arrows. So remember the Bo is staff and a Bo Staff is staff staff.
u can also use this method, after just 5 days of doing it i can do it fine, and right now almost a month and i can spin it for about 100 spins, just try doing this method over and over u will find out how to do it
Dude, my dream is to spin a staff. I watched one video and pratised for a hour on my own outside. Now I can spin fast and behind my back and without knowing it I learned how to do the one finger roll on my own. It’s cool to know how to do it completely. Edit: I usually add a normal roll to it and I usually use it before I start and after.
Good for you, that's awesome. I do a reversal from a front to back grip using the same finger roll, but its next to me not above me. It's on the handle of course, not the blade.
Great tutorial Sensi! Just the move I've been wanting to learn. Can we get a tutorial of a form using this finger-roll spin, over the head (getting a long spin over the head).
Are there any videos that actually show "HOW" to use a staff? I learned years ago (probably before you were even born) how to actually use one for defense. There was some spinning and such but now I hardly see it being used for it's real purpose. Also, if you learned staff/bo then anything similar could be used as a weapon...a mop, a broom, a rolled up magazine etc.
senpai snakes that’s funny you should ask, one of my students asked me that yesterday. There is a way to do it twice. It involves a roll using your middle finger, then back to the first finger. Kind of like a coin rolling over your knuckles. I’ll make a video of it and share it Monday. Soooo subscribe and stay tuned!
That is an awesome fluorescent green bo! I was wondering where did you acquire it, also how much more or less was it, in terms of its cost, if you do not mind me asking? I would like to acquire one for myself! 👍 ☺ ✌
@@SenseiIchi wow a silver one is awesome as well. My utmost sincere apologies for being a nuisance, yet again Sensei Ichikawa, where would you recommend, that I could go and purchase, the silver bo online? Thank you for your response, greatly appreciated, Osu! 👍
ニュージーランド・スイサイド not a nuisance at all. I love talking to people about martial arts. I’d say century’s website is the best place to purchase that BO. They’re very good about dealing with customers, so if you have an issue they can take care of it for you and make it right.
legit struggling so much with this, I think my hands might be too small for my staff. not sure if that's a legit issue or I just need to practice more... I've hit myself so many times :p (also shout out to the lumineers in the background, that's one of my favorite songs )
@@SenseiIchi You are correct my friend, I forgot Tang Soo Do branched off from Japanese Karate on 1931 , even there katas are very similar of Karate kata , thank you.
That depends on a few factors. Are we rolling with our fingers or hands. With hands there are a few ways to do it. There is a butterfly grip and a hand over hand, which are the most common. There is a way to mix/combo this finger roll into a butterfly grip, which I can make a video on if you'd like.
This motion is not a practical martial action, correct? Filler between “strikes”? So food for thought, most of the time result is engagement in non martial state. There is a very good point to this question. To be a martial artist requires one to hold the martial state.
This motion is for extreme martial arts demos not for practical application, but on the other hand I don't think I'll be using a Bo Staff in most street fights unless the weapon presents itself. Just sayin
I was about to ask the same thing. I have heard it called Korean Karate, though. Here where I am at a lot of schools say KARATE on their outside signs. After checking out costs for those signs, I understand why they use less letters.
We use both in our school, these performance staffs for tricking and we use ash bo's for combative staff work. We do a style called American Tang Soo Do, it has Japanese Karate influence, and since we are a Korean/American style we have both flags flying.
Super exciting ends amazing to have all these views!! You are super dope snd of course still sleeping handsome! (Sorry gals, no disrespect intended 😉🙏🏼)
