Welcome to our new VLOG on here! Vlog 39.
Today you join us on the river weaver where we travel back towards Marsh Lock which leads to the Manchester ship canal. It was one part of the river we hadn’t done and went to say we had done the full weaver navigation.
We had a lovely time there and nipped back to devils garden too. Cow poo galore!
Apologies for the wind noise here - we really need to get organised with the microphones.
We would soon regret staying on the weaver as the lift broke and we got stuck!
More to come about that soon!

HI there looks like your having fun but make sure you dont get stuck on the weaver lol. The Bird was a hawk and not a falcon, you can tell by the wings falcons go to a point and hawks have a broard end. so what you saw was a buzzard or a goss haws. loving your blogs and hope to catch up with you next season. we did wave to you several times on the weaver, boat is called Demby ROSE.

Thanks for taking us along on this lovely and funny cruise, it was brilliant. The bird was a Red Kyte, (sorry love) and I'm sure that you were right about the Salt Works. A 'Bloody Mary' is a very healthy drink by the way (Hair of the Dog) as a pickup for the morning after effect, lol. It's great to see that you three are doing well. Take care and all the best. I had to look at your footage twice as its tail looked a bit narrow but the way it flew was more like a Kyte than a Buzzard and I think you've confirmed that by saying that it landed close to you as a Buzzard or Peregrine wouldn't have. Stevie

Yeh, they are but the tail of a Kyte is wider and you'll see it moving more, twisting around using it to change direction. The Buzzard is bigger and soars like an Eagle and when other Buzzards or birds that need scaring off they can be quite vocal and sound quite like a loud cat so you'd have probably heard a Buzzard before you saw it. x

Hey Bill how are you? Bruce is doing well - still a grumpy old man - and so is Tony 🤣🤣🤣. Yes he damaged when boat quite badly. Never even said sorry. He had no licence number or boat name so couldn’t do much. Tony spoke to him but he couldn’t care less. Is that what the terrapins do! Oh I’ve gone off them now ahha. I didn’t know that - I’ve never seen one in the wild. Didn’t expect to see one in the river. Hope you’re well and thanks again for the support, apologies for the terrible sound quality this week xx

It was very likely a buzzard based on the mewing call it was making and the absence of a forked tail of a red kite. The flight is not the same as a peregrine.

Eat, sleep and be merry. Life is good. But narrowboat collisions like that gave you a rude awakening. It was clumsy of that narrowboat pilot when he hit you. But to hit you twice and leave go faster stripes down your boat is unforgiveable. Stopping off at the Devil's Back Passage caused a bit of a stink too. Who flung dung? Anyway, at least you got to steer the boat regardless of the fact the river was one mile wide. He's not daft is your Tony. Can't wait until next year when all the locks have been fixed and canal levels are back to normal so that son of Yorkshire can head back to his roots and you may get chance to have an audience with me. Now that would make an interesting vlog. A bit of rough weather on the horizon. Stay safe.

OH dear Helen, that idiot was just a bad example of atrocious seamanship with all that room to manoeuvre he must be a complete amateur and not taking the wind and current and other boats into considereation. Did he have an "L" plateI hope the damage was no more than scraped paint although I know you take a lot of pride in "Forgetmenot".So you like Bloody Mary's here in New Brunswick a favourite tipple is a Bloody Ceasar made with Clamato juice instead of just plain Tomato ,the clam juice gives it a whole different taste I like it with a dash of Lea and Perrins Worcestershire sauce and a dash of Tabasco in a salt rimmed glass with a stick of celery. I agree with you it was a Perigrine Falcon. I was in the Peregrine Patrol in the Scouts. So happy you can get around without a crutch andi n a pretty dress too. Red Kites (as someone mentioned) are smaller, & Peregrines don’t frequent that area. Great video as always. 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻

@@NorthernNarrowboaters As I’ve said before, I live in Lymm & there are loads of Buzzards all around me & I regularly see them around the whole area (especially where you where). As they’re breeding (my local pair raised 2 chicks year before last) the offspring have to move area when they’re big enough to claim a new territory. Hope this helps, & if you’re in the Lymm area again, I’ve got a belting bird book I can give you to recognise the different species.
