My hero when i started racing back in 1980. RIP Bob

Huge fan and I will miss my child hood hero. I even made computer passwords in his name. I have pictures with he and I and autographs. I just found out today 1/19/18 of his passing. NHRA has lost its first to 10 world titles man. No one can ever say that. I am forever a FORD man and Bob was my bragging rights hero, especially in the 80’s during my high school years. He always said he was lucky, but I heard recently that the harder you work, the luckier you are. I just wish Ford would have supported him better in his heyday, he deserved it!!!! Anyway, Rest In Peace good man, show God how to tune a carbureted Pro Stock Ford because you were the only one who could , and win consistently win over any other make, and show gratitude in the process. I’ll see you in heaven and shake your hand again and ask for one more autograph. So long.

I remember watching him race from the 70s through the 90s. He was the man in Pro Stock to beat and very rarely got ever got beat. As an Indiana boy myself I cheered him and his family on . RIP Mr. Glidden.

Got two autographs and "Mr Pro Stock" was a true name to Bob and his family. Maybe Greg Anderson and WJ can only come close to claiming that. RIP to a true legend!

30 years ago I proudly hung a Glidden poster of his red & white Motorcraft Thunderbird in my garage. It's still in the same place, next to the Chief Auto Parts T-Bird. As a Ford fan, you always made me proud. Rest in peace Brother. I hope your family is ok. I saw you and your lovely wife at Chi Chi's in Greenwood many years ago but didn't have the courage and had enough respect not approach to say hi. Bob Glidden was the BEST Ford man in the world,I will never forget him . He gave me the encouragement to race Fords and I learned alot from him. God Rest your soul Bob it was quite a ride !!

In 1986 my father made me a replica 86 chief auto parts pro stock car made out of wood..tears rolled out of my eyes when I opened it Xmas day..I was a huge Bob glidden fan ..and will always hold him and that car close to heart..rip bob

I'm living in Ga now with my son and his wife,but I was born,lived in In most of my life. Went to US NATIONALS many years,loved to see Bob win those races!,saddened, shocked of just hearing today of his passing!!! RIP Bob,my sincerest condolences to all his family and friends.

I met him at the Popular Hot Rodding Championships years ago, he was a great guy, they hadn't gotten in the show yet but even though they were working feverishly on the car he took the time to come and talk to several fans and signed my T-Shirt. RIP Bob, you were one of the good guys.

First seen Bob at US 30 Dragstrip in Indiana in the 70's. Looked very much like a low-buck racer. Had a very "everyman" way about him. A pleasure just to stand there and watch him in the pits as he was such a hard worker. Regardless of your brand preference I think most would say he was the best. You will for sure never be forgotten Bob Glidden. Prayers and strength to Etta and sons.

You are missed Pro1. The only racing T-Shirt I ever purchased was at a 1992 US Nationals event I attended...a Bob Glidden shirt with the Ford Probe on it. Still have it, never wore it. Was very happy to see him race the Cunningham Mustang Pro-Stock car in 2010 at the Nationals.

Loved wen he switched from ford to mopar but he ruled with both ford and mopar still remember whatching that little arrow he could drive very good man i watched a video were he talked about a boy that was firing of cancer and he wanted to see bob glidden race at the track I guess it was the make a wish foundation he was talking about. It and he started crying it broke my heart watching it very humble man not many racers like him around gone but not forgotten hope you are racing in the stars RIP.!

Just imagine what he could have accomplished with a level playing field, GM tried every thing they could to make him a loser , but they failed miserably !!!!! Thank you, Bob Glidden !!!!!

Bob was the Best. Bob, Etta, Billy, and Rusty, the FORD Family of Drag Racing. What Bob did with a Ford Power plant was simply amazing. The hardest working guy in Drag Racing. Seen him many times at Englishtown in the 80,s and 90,s Was the underdog driving a Ford, but he dominated the Pro Stock Class for years. Even won the Championship driving a Mopar for 1 year. But he was FORD through and through. RIP Bob you are truly missed by thousands. He was the absolute Best in my book.

Bob was a Legend. He put Ford's on the Map. Probably the hardest working Person Ever, was always trying different things when it came to making the Underdog Ford Number 1 When it comes to making a FORD run at the Top of the Pack, in my Book it was him and Engine Builder extraordinaire Jon Kaase. Jon is still building Dominating Ford Engines. His Cylinder Head Designs are Top Notch.

To me Bob Glidden was a hero. He carried the Ford banner in Pro Stock Racing when it seemed like everyone else was running GM. Rest In Peace Bob Glidden and God's speed!

I met Bob at the Seafair Nationals in Seattle in the 90s. He was a super nice guy, very friendly. I miss that generation of racers.

What a life he really went to work

He is a hero to a lot of us for what he did in racing , but i also think he should be seen in the same light for the way he took care of his family. one more thing as a ford guy he always kept the GM crowd in check.

Bob was the absolute BEST EVER!!!...he was my inspiration for racing a ford....talked to him during one of his last races in Topeka Kansas have many personal oics of him and me and him and my late wife. ill cherish forever...god speed my brother RIP you WILL NEVER DIE.... I watched Bob do 201 mph at Brainerd international speedway in the final. With his Ford prope. He smoked Warren Johnson, Again. I was there with my friends, jumping & yelling my approval.

I will never forget how the NHRA treated BG during his last competition years, he was ostracized and shunned, no cameras came by his pit all because he spoke out about all the cheating with Nitrous etc going on!! This Proud Gentleman was unable to make a living, finally leaving, without any send off,, Such a disgrace, I stopped watching NHRA,, My Hero!! R.I.P Thanks Never forget you!!

I was lucky enough to have several conversations with Bob over the years. I’m a Ford drag racer myself. We mostly talked about drag racing. I raced a 427 Ford Tunnel Port Side Oiler. Bob gave me some tips about racing and driving that were extremely helpful. Although I never raced at his level, I still ran very fast, clocking a best of 7.82 at 177.36 in the quarter mile. I originally built the engine for super comp 8.90 index, it far exceeded my expectations. Thank you Bob Glidden, Dave Riolo and Jim Demmitt SR. Without these veteran racers, I would have never accomplished what I have in racing.

I was never a Ford fan, but this one man was my favorite Pro Stock driver. Many ask me why I liked Bob Glidden and my answer was his attitude and dedication the his work. If one could take a Ford motor and kick all the Chevy guys asses time and time again there must be time for respect. I had the great chance to meet Bob in the staging lanes at Indy. Best conversation and honor of my life....... Bob was a true down to earth winner and champion. He truely loved the sport and loved being part of the sport. Magnificent family the Gliddens. There will never be another Bob Glidden, he was one unique to all ...... RIP DRAG MASTER BOB !!!

I watched several of his interviews and i always thought he was getting the short end of the stick when he was racing. He, and others, were on the front lines of factory R and D, but was never truly compensated. When he said he switched to chrysler because of the money he needed to raise his family, that made me admire him not as a racer but a husband and father. At that point racing wasnt about himself anymore. I hope society continues to produce real men like him. RIP BOB

I remember getting his autograph at the texas motorplex around 1992. Bob saw and heard me there standing with a Glidden car poster, i did not want to ask since he bad been eliminated and they were packing up. He smiles and asked “u want a autograph” since he had heard me talking to my wife about asking. He came over not only him but rusty and billy. They all signed and talked a little. Thats how fans are treated! When they left they were driving away in their rig they saw me again and i pulled my camera and they all stuck their hands and heads out of the window laughing! I still have that awesome pic! Bob was and always will be the greatest in drag racing!

he was more than a racer, this guy had a big heart, not only for his family but also for fans. I don't remember 100% the story and feel free to correct me, but at one point there was a terminally ill kid and his last wish was to watch Bob race and Bob accommodated him and the kid passed away also wanting Bob memorabilia buried with him and Bob lost it and broke down and cried, I'm quite sure he made it to heaven...RIP Bob Glidden
