When I worked at Boeing in the late 70's the first jet foil was at the end of it's development. Before it was commissioned the employees were invited to go on a ride on the jet foil which was being built in Renton, WA. We were bussed from the Boeing Field where I worked and spent a good part of the morning on the boat. It was a beautiful boat and an even more beautiful ride. It's one of the best memories I have of working for Boeing.
Boeing marine built the 6 US Navy Hydro foils. All 6 were stationed in the 80’s in Key West. I was in the navy and on USS Pegasus PHM-1 82-86. The ships were PEGASUS, HERCULES, TARUS, ARIES, AQULIA, GEMINI. They were decommissioned in mid 90’s. They were bad boys.
I caught a ride on one of those in the 70s just after they were built fro Bremerton to Seattle the pilots had full airline uniform on it was the coolest
George Costarica tf is wrong with you maybe he spelled wrong but come on man don’t take your anger out on the poor guy,and if your going through hard times I’ll pray for you that you get better soon
What a fantastic video. I watched this a number of times and still enjoy it. Very skilful camera work. The Boeing 929 jetfoil is an amazing boat. Love the sound of the turbines.Weel done! Thanks.
yup.. the metal fins that stick out of the water have a sort of upside down "airplane wings" on it that lift the boat out of the water at certain speeds. Creating much less drag and higher top speeds for the boat.
When the ship reaches speed and the hull lifts, the movement is amazingly smooth also it uses less fuel because of less resistance from moving through the water.
"Meteor" is the most graceful hydrofoil machine in the history of mankind for today's day. Very beautiful ship. It's not worthless to buy it even in the US from the Soviet Union.
I think this may be the former B+I Line Jetfoil, 'Cu Na Mara' ( Hound of the Sea), which operated between Liverpool and Dublin in the 1980's. There are several images of her in Google Images.
We have here in Brazil the largest river basin in the world in the Amazon. How good it would be for such boats to breathe passengers and tourists into the rivers of my city Manaus. We have great water and logistic potential.
If they build the two float can spread out and collapse in and with greater length dimensions then it would be more stabilized at any speed plus must had submerged horizontal stabilizer in case extreme high speed prevent from being airborne
Looks very much like the same model in service for the route between Hong Kong and Macau since 30+ years ago, and I remember there are still 1-2 in service now. It looks very Hong Kong and Macau to me and to people in both places.
I have owned Boeing stock. The dollars from aircraft sales are in the middle of the page while all other interests (hydrafoil) are but a pencil mark at the bottom of the page. Few products can compete with the 737, 757 ,767 and 777 However they have not replaced their core engineers and as log as we don't travel beyond the speed of sound they will be OK. Dave Hansen
