My buddy Juan did it again! He repaired 3 amps for me that had no hope of ever working again. They all spent at least 10 years in the garage. The first was the Rockford Fosgate Punch 150, then the Soundstream Reference Class A 5.0....and of course an old Soundstream Rubicon 302 a friend gave me for a door stop. The next video's coming up, i will fire up the Rubicon 302 and for the grand finale, i will see which one is the loudest of the 3, on the TermLab meter. Regardless, i am amazed Juan was able to bring them back.

Last night someone on my street left a pile of trash to the curb. I immediately noticed an old-school RF Punch X250.2. It was missing the end caps, and it looks like it has seen better days, but so what? I took that baby home. I'm going to test it this weekend, fingers crossed!

@transit1999 Here are when the amps were made Steve is showing: 2nd Gen Rockford Punch 150 - 1989-1990, Soundstream Class A 5.0 - 1995-1996, Soundstream Rubicon 302 - 1998/1999 (last of the USA built by SS). The Punch 150 is out-weighted here...the SS 5.0 should be the most powerful, but will see...Great job Steve, keep the "old school" alive!!

I just did an install with some generation 1 MMATS with TO3 in them. Old school SQ power from 1994 and they were near mint. One had never seen power. Running this active now with an old MMATS 500.2 from the late 90s that had never seen power. So this kicked off my 1990s build. I am more into sq so I got some Boston Acoustics PRo Subs from the 90's... new in teh box never installed! Also some lightly used Boston Pro Components from the 90's. Hardest part is finding a deck taht can do active from the 90s... Pioneer P1R is on my search list.

I have a small bone-yard myself and had a friend who offered to bring an "old school classic" back to life for me. My pride and joy was an Xtant 3300X. My friend was a an audio technician for the Allman Brothers Band for 15 years, and used to fix their equipment constantly so I felt secure in letting him work on it. I gave it to him with a blown left channel, and I got it back as a boat anchor. I was so pissed. Needless to say, I should have used a reputable repair shop.

I am running the same Punch150 & a 45. Got them for free back in 1994 via a shop owner. I sent the 45 to fosgate for service & $35 later had a pair of amp that are still rocking as of today(Sept 2012. )

The baddest amplifier that was ever made. Pair this with the punch 45 for your mid's and highs and you have the most complete 195 watts that you have ever heard in your life. With the exception on the Lanzar 50c and the Orion HCAA 225, no other amp has done more for car audio than the Punch 150. 25 years later and we are still talking about it. What does that say?

I used to have a Soundstream 10.0 and a 5.0. I had the 10.0 powering 4 JL Audio 12w1's and the 5.0 powering my Eclipse highs/mids. I had so many different Soundstream amps and subs back in the day. My favorite Soundstream subs were the Exact's. Didn't really have a favorite Soundstream amp. They all did awesome. From the Reference 500, Reference 700s, to the 5.0, 10.0, and the Picasso. (The real Soundstream Picasso. From around 1995)

@dodgechargercrazy the lexus has a nice system in it already. Its not brain twisting loud but its very nice. Im in no hurry. The ATV install will be FUN. I like having fun. Besides, i cant even THINK about the ISF until I get my Rockford 3sixty.3 when it comes out. Thats the main thing i am waiting for.

Yo, should let those connectors heat up just a few more if they are the same as the ones we use. They have solder built in so they have both a mechanical and solder crimp in one unit. Have to make sure that solder melts down on the inside. You probably already know but stating the obvious. Good vid.

@transit1999 Steve's Punch 150 is a 2nd generation Punch 150, made between 1989-1990. The Punch 150HD was 1991-1992, then the DSM series were from 1993-1996'ish. I can look up the SS Class A 5.0 and Rubicon 302 and let you know about those...

Steve, when your tuning the 150hd did you tune it with a flat eq on the head unit? also when tuned with the dd1 and it shows no distortion is it ok to use the punch bass on the amp after or will this cause it to clip.

All I want to know is how you managed to blow a RF Punch 150 in the first place? I had one of those back in the day and it was bulletproof. That's why those first and 2nd gen punch amps are so highly sought after. Glad you got her working. I just wish companies still made amps like that.

I know this old post but only way I blew my 1st punch 45 ( of many) was trying to run at lower ohm loads! Sometimes the fuses didn’t help. Luckily their was an old asian man in the 80’s that had an electronics repair shop and he would always have me running again by weeks end. I miss my amps and him!#RF❤️🔊#thepunch45,75,&150 were my amps in my prince range as a teen. I couldn’t afford the punch 650/1000 in those late 80’s!#RF❤️🔊

@shuffle953 On some older amps the power and ground wires are permanent (they don't have a terminal to connect the wire to) so yo can only trim it down so much before you just have a nub of the wire left. So he went ahead and added wire to it so that i had a nice amount of wire to work with.
