I’ve got 5 “25 to life” amplifiers !! 2 punch 150’s, 2 punch 45’s and 1 punch 75!! I thought about putting these amps in my next build because I’ve had the amps sitting in my closet for over 15 years, still boxed and 1 is brand new with shrink wrap still in tact!! Other E’s were demos purchased when Ultimate Electronics went out of business! I purchased every 25 to life amp they had!! I’ve always been a Rockford guy but the amps today are just too advanced to compete with the older amplifiers. I bought them mostly for nostalgia. But for the right price I will part with them! Thanks Big D!!

My brother still uses old Rockford amps two punch 240's and a power 1200 he also has a punch 200 and an old nakamichi (one of the cleanest sounding amps I ever heard) all from the mid 90's and still awesome. oh yeah new sub here your channel is good keep up the good work 👍.

just purchased a Sansui G 9700 from the late seventies early eighties rated to 200 rms watts per Channel 8 ohms. looked up just to see how much an ad1 would cost to purchase wow sticker shock definitely have even a greater appreciation of what you do for us old school audio fans.

the last time that you posted the punch150 25 to life i had just bought mine. I used it for about 2 years since then and when you posted this video i realized that i just sold it. I used it for 2 years at 1 ohm stereo playing 4 6.5" pro audio speakers and it was the loudest set of mids and highs ive ever had. old school class AB power FTW.

Hey big D! This amp has about the same power rating, as the P8002 amp, which I have. Could not afford them when they came out new ($800), but now I can, used! I love these amps, even though this model only seems to be about 50 - 60% efficient. Great video!

Orion does rate their higher end amps like this. Not many companies these days doing that though. Regardless of how they are rating the watt per $ is still way better now than its ever been.

A friend of mine growing up had a punch 150 with 2 pro punch 18''s and a pioneer super tuner in a Ford escort. This was in Sacramento and we would always go to the cruise @ sunrise mall. He definitely had one of the loudest systems, I remember being followed home a few times by people up to no good. I always knew it put out way more than the 180watts but didn't think it was so high.

Hey big DWIZ , I recently got into Rockford Fosgate Amps and once I started searching on the net for them I found your channel, believe me I really appreciate your time and effort you put into your videos, I wander if you could explain what each of your tests mean, example : certified, uncertified, clipping , 40hz, all the terms you use to describe your tests, not sure if is something you would like to waist your time on but for some of us that don’t know what it means, would really make a difference, IM OUTTA HERRREE.🎓

My dad had the OG on two (kicker wrote in gold) 15s in his conversion van back when I was a kid (80s-90s) the seats spun around and had a couch seat and tv in the back kitchen table in built in the middle

You are correct! I looked at the sheet on my 1000 25TL, my 45-75-&150 state 2ohm stereo. Even though FH @ RF said they'll do it with ease. Great amps Pal !!!!!

+033Fritz I'm jealous of your 1000, like to get my hands on one of those some day. The Punch 25 to Life amps do not perform well on the amp dyno in the certified mode at 2 ohms mono. In fact, the 150 only gave me around 300 watts before it hit 1% THD at 2 ohms with a continuous test tone. As you can see by the vid, dynamically, it performed well, so it may do ok with music, but I would not recommend it.

Back in the day, we called these cheater amps. They were expensive but you got serious power out of these amps for back in the 90’s.

They were designed to mount under dash, as was tradition in the late 70s, early 80s. My first amp was a Punch 40.

Ha! That's right! I turned 16 in 86 and remember running into "older" installations like that. Hell, I had my EQ/Amp mounted under the dash with upside down L brackets at the radio location as well in my first set up...bumping them 6x9's. LOL

Big d seen you tested kicker DX 1200.1 and did a little better than rated. That is good. I have a kicker DX 1000.1 same era. Does it do rated also? Would appreciate response as am currently running one older alpine type s in ported box. Would like to add a second. Do you think amp could take it? Currently amp does not even get warm pounding one. Would it fair well running two?

I agree but I also think they also put them out there for the fanatics with a change of Industry for a more affordable amps. that's the one killer of homegrown good audiophile amplifiers. lots of people are not willing to put out the $ for the great sound quality and Power vs okay sound quality and big Power. that's why there's guys like you out there to keep it alive

Dereck. I would like to know how I can PM you regarding testing an old school custom production 4 channel amp designed and built for an RV converter that had his shop locally here. I bought a stack of these amps from the closure liquidation auction about 18 years ago. These amps are 1980's era and were not made for retail sale. I would like to know if you would want to run a test on one of them to see how close the specs were. Thanks!

thank now i know how much my punch 150 25th anniversity puches had on 2 punch hx2 hitting hard but no longer have does woofers and amp was getting hot on my t1 so i upgraded to t1500

BigD I've got a question Please. It's not a HD I'm sure I've got the 1st Punch 150 amplifier. The back states 75 a channel into 4Ω Is that 4Ω a sub or 2Ω a sub. And when bridged Orange and Brown how many ohm's is it. Thank you

Sometime maybe do a consistency test on amps. Two exact amps, same model. Do they make the same exact power? And maybe a test on how use affects power output, does heavy use over an amount of time make your amp lose power? And what about subs, do they lose spl over time? People like to answer with their opinions but facts and numbers are unbeatable.

BigDWiz I am sorry I misspoke a little one I had was made in 1991/92 so it was a punch 150 hd started out with it and two mtx blue thunder 12s with a kenwood cd player/headunit with 2 Kenwood 4in. In dash and 2 kenwood 6.5 in doors .. had it all professionally installed and tuned in a regular cab Mazda pickup with custom woofer box behind the seat for the 12s and it for the time ..... absolutely would ROCK ...sounded very good ...then later used it bridged to run a jl audio 15 in a maxima ....and only had one other system since and bought a amp at a pawn shop it was a kenwood I believe the name of it was a performance standard 100 and ran another jl audio 15 with it bridged and it sure seemed it made well more than 100 watts ...could you give me any information on that amp ...if you have the time that is ....I haven't had a system in ten years now but want to add a sub and amp to my 2017 Altima but afraid it would void the warranty ...

Wow, dual 12's behind the seat of a regular cab? I had 10's behind my seat and my dad felt sorry for me b/c I was so cramped so we swapped cars :-P. Never had any issues running Fosgate amps back in the day at 2 ohm mono. (everyone was doing it) Make sure the wire is big, good electrical system, plenty of air flow. I currently have a punch 150HD running a Fosgate P2 10 dual 4 ohms wired at 2 ohms mono. No problems.

+chuck miller me too. I ran 1st gen Punch 150 on two 4 ohm MTX Blue Thunder 10's at 2 ohms mono for several years, no problems. These newer 25 to Life versions don't like 2 ohms mono though (for anything other than a "burp")

BigDWiz hey D I have several of the 25TL 150’s and I’ve only ran one, but... on a pair of RFR Power 12’s. 4 ohms each, 4” SVC’s and I’ve been running it since 07 on those @ 2ohm mono & it’s never had a prob! I’m wondering if it has to do with the ported enclosure or an impedance rise once the subs start physically moving? Because out of the box when the subs I’ve ran off of them started moving I saw about 3.2-4.1ohms at the amp, same as in the ported enclosure. Which is why I’ve never hesitated to run them that way, but then again you know me & my love for the 650 & what it does @2ohm dynamically. Heck even certified! By the way I’m looking forward to that vid!!! Hope you’re doing well. ✌️

That Old Punch 150 had to be early 80's I was installing in the 80s - 2001 and the models before the HD models were out in the very late 80s I do remember the HD models in 1991-92. I could be losing my memory too.

+chuck miller yep, 1st gen was 86-88, 2nd gen was 89-90, HD was 91-92. There were a few 1985 models in the 1st gen series (45 and 75), I'm pretty sure 150 came out in 1986. Prior to 85 was the "slider" series, Punch 40, Punch 100

I always knew it was heavily underrated, but almost 1000w RMS at 4 ohms mono?! I noticed that it is missing the serial number sticker stating production # of 2500. It makes me regret having sold almost all of my 25TL amps. 1 left to part this P150 25TL in original box and paperwork.

After re watching this video with correlations of the other dyno videos, when you say it's not rated for that load I've noticed something. Once that are not rated for that load usually will increase the power a little bit 50 may be 100watts. But one of damn near double some power I think it was built to handle that load known that I was going to be used that hard even though it wasn't actually rated in the manual. 😊👍 Fun fact I think in the engineering of these amps with certain manufacturers being known to be a little more durable. 🎉

The reason the letterings upside-down is so when it's mounted it's easier to read when you're doing your tuning. If it didn't do it that way let us would be upside down from your perspective once it was mounted

2 punch 150's 3rd gen linked both bridged and dual rockford pro 15's w/32 pound magnets in 1992.151.2 db at state fair 3rd place.3500$ way back then at my HS grad year and could be heard a mile away.Melted 5 sets of of those 15's before Ovation changed its policy to no longer "lifetime un-blowable" subs..Goodtimes.

Hey Dereck I have a old school punch 45 I got from my dad. But this one is weird, all of the pics on google I see them with knobs to control bass and treble. But on the one I have it has switches with 3 options Low Mid High So what I was wondering is- what generation is this one? And what would the value be. Cause if it's worth a decent amount I'm going to stop using it and hang it on my wall or something lol. Right now I have it driving my highs and mids in my 78 c10 pick up

+meanbean51 I believe that is a Punch 40, not 45, right? The first gen 45 had bass/treble controls, but earlier Punch 40 and Punch 100's had the "slider" adjustments

Could someone confirm if Kenny Lanclos was one of the original engineers on the Punch series amps? He started Lunar amplifiers later on and there is a similar build quality and power rating with them.

@@wal I think these 25 To Life amps are rebadged Punch amps from the same era. I 'think' the Punch 150 was a rebadged Punch 850.2 or something very close. I'm not totally up to date on the nomenclature of all RF amps from that time.

Nice! BTW, have you ever heard of, or tested the Blade SE amplifiers? They are more of an SQ amp, and use BASH technology which means class D power section with a class AB amp section, but would love to see a test. Btw thanks for sharing.

Wow, amazing! So, according to Ohm's Law, Power (wattage) = Current (amps) * Voltage (volts). I'm assuming this is a class A or class AB amp? If so, does the P = I x E formula change for, say, a full-range class D? I'm just not sure how the difference stacks up since they're supposedly so much more efficient. Can you explain?

+Numinous This one is Class A/B and less efficient than Class D, but purists will say Class A/B sounds better than Class D. Dereck BigDWiz Thanks, Dereck. Seems to me that the answer is Ohm's Law is always true; that's why it's a law, right? X amount of watts will draw Y amps at Z voltage, every single time. These are givens. I think where efficiency enters the picture, like with regard to class D's being much more efficient, is the amount of output you actually get from that voltage/current draw rather than what's converted to/lost as heat. I've seen new versions of these MMATS amps sold for around $1,000, and they're supposed to be absolutely top-notch in sound quality too. They use all 1% tolerance parts (the very highest grade) and are designed to offer superior sound quality in addition to all of the class D design benefits. MMATS was actually the originator of class D design, IIRC, so they're experts on it. Anyways, great vid and thanks for the response!

Didn't even know you reviewed these amps.. Im runming 2 punch 150hds to some Solo-Baric Kicker 12s..when I tell people the wattage I'm pushing, they think I'm lying. Pound-4-pound, it's one of the best amps ever made. Cheater amp by definition and a true hoss!!!

BigDWiz thank you for the reply man. Was gna slap it on a dual 1ohm dc audio sub. It sounded like the perfect amp for what I was looking for. Trying to run about 1600-1800 rms at 2 ohm mono. Thanks again for you input man. You saved me a whole heap of Trouble

Had and ran a second gen punch 150.... ran everything from 2 10s / 4 8s / 2 12s / 1 w series JL audio 15 and it always produced very good loud deep bass .....had it for 20 years before someone decided they needed worse than I did and stole it

Amp is stable at 4 and 2 ohms stereo and 4 ohms mono. Nothing less

2005.... AN END TO AN ERA... Still made in Tempe, arizona not CHINA! I bought a second hand T300.2 which is extremely similar to punch 45 25 to life. except its officially 1 ohm stable. Man is that thing underrated and LOUD. 300 watt class ab amp that does over 750w @2ohm bridged!

That or jl audio i think unless you get so special off the wall brand. You cant beat rockford fosgate. JL audio is ever bit as good but really pricey.

Says that the 25 to life line of amps didnt sell well. Think it was because they underrated them so much?

+dirtywhiteboy0828 It is my belief most amp buyers in 2005 did not understand the concept of underrating and were thinking "why would I spend $700 on a 180W amp?" Times had changed from the 80's and early 90's of underrating amps and the concept didn't work well in 2005. That's only my theory though...
