As CloudCuckoo held the novel in his hands he started to think about the narrative implications of owl sex. What on earth could he have been thinking? Had he had some sort of accident or brain damage or illness or was the internet starting to get to-and CloudCuckoo suddenly started to feel a sudden influx of panic-to him, transforming him, oh how abominable to form such a conditional hypothesis, was he becoming like certain humans he had heard of, who enjoyed the fetishization of non-human animals? Oh by some ironic twist of irony, it cannot be true!

Of course the primitive owls have democracy. Haven't you heard the phrase "a parliament of owls"?

This is so god damn fascinating. A real human being sat down and wrote those owl passages, probably revised them multiple times and said "this will do fine".

I feel like I just witnessed a man losing his god-damn-birdie-mind.

When the critique of a book has better character development than the book itself

I remember reading the Warrior Cats series when I was younger and being very shocked. There was also a Hitler-cat, who sought to kill all "mixed-clan" cats; a cat-law that had to be passed to prevent CHILD SOLDIERS, with a very gruesome passage describing the slaughter of one of these kittens in battle; along with a cat suffering a miscarriage and bleeding out on the "Sunningrocks". Luckily, all "sex scenes" were just tastefully described as "two cats lying with each other". Despite the bloodier aspects, I still loved the series and would recommend it to anyone, young or old, who wants to delve into some more questionable middle-grade fiction.

I find these very entertaining and Shammy brought me here.

I just love how Antony actually burns the book and not just use some cheap special effect or imply that he did.

It's almost 2 a.m. here and I am watching an australian "rampant pseudo-intellectual on a quest for vengeance" furry book critic talking about owl-related sexual referances.

Oh my fucking God. This book was read to my class throughout year 2 in primary school. One day we just stopped and I’d always wondered why.

I've actually read the Silverwing books by Kenneth Oppel, and remember liking them, though on reflection the sequels went completely bonkers and there was quite a bit of graphic violence. Bats are burned alive, one has his heart ripped out of his chest and eaten, another has their wings pecked off while still a child...and the running plot in Sunwing is about how a military experiment is turning bats into unwilling suicide bombers. It's also in that book where the protagonist gets sonar powers (the climax involves him using sonar to make a bomb hover in midair to prevent an explosion). Then in Firewing the main character's son travels to bat hell! There's so much fire and bats get devoured by the vengeful bat god of the underworld.
