Just finished my 3 days. I did only sardines in olive oil and sardines in water. No tea, no coffee, plenty of water. I have hashimtos and hypothyroidism and have been unable to make the scale budge for some time. After 3 days of this not only do I feel great and notice a positive change in energy levels but I actually lost 6 pounds! Edit to add: I went on to do 8 days total and lost 11 lbs!
@@davidfw1866temp I continued on for another 5 days so 8 days total and lost 11 pounds by the end of it. Of course most of this was water weight, But it gave me the discipline and motivation necessary to make some big changes that really helped me. Now a month after and I’m still 8 lbs down. I think your wife could really benefit from it! Hypothyroidism sucks. 😣
Congratulations I also have hypothyroidism I aggressively calorie counted and got rid of all the weight it took a while though. Its absolutely possible I'd to cut my calories very low though I'm trying to get them back to 1200 as it's unhealthy I'm a bit underweight
@Rachelhasacamera - same here with Hashimoto’s and no change in weight. Will definitely have to try this. I wonder if it’s all the omega 3 essential fatty acids that do the trick?
After 3 days of the sardine fast, ketones 4.9, and glucose down to 89. Lost almost 3 pounds na 1 inch here and there. Whereas I thought that it was impossible anymore. And it was actually a tasty food, easy peasy fast. Thank you for this tool, dr Boz!
I am type 2. I have been in a diet very similar to yours: no carb, no sugar and a lot of protein; just a cup of coffee in the morning, a lunch at noon (protein and vegs) and a light snack, also based on protein, at 6PM. In addition, gym 5x a week. One year ago my weight was 95 kg now it's 75, the liver fat is gone and my sugar level droped from 200 to 130. it works
I'm on day 3 and loving it. I think I'm going to attempt 10 days. Using tinned sardines in spring water or brine and pouring melted butter on them. It's great not having to think about food.
I'm so excited....my brother is type 2 diabetic....I shared your video....he is on 48 hours and his blood sugar has stayed at 90....he hasn't had to take any insulin....he has also been struggling with plantar faciltis....I'm praying that that will also correct itself too in time. ❤❤thank you so much!!🎉
@jjones8567 >For Plantar Faciitis, if it's inflamed, a shot of cortisone in the heel of the foot can help. I had in both feet, did the stretches, massage nothing helped until I ran into a nurse acquaintance who's medical doctor she worked for shot my heels with cortisone, rest off feet for 2-3 days, and I was finally better and never bothered again. That was 19 years ago. Before that tried everything. Good luck for your brother, I know it's painful. The steroid shots worked wonders for me.
@@winniebt600 thank you Winnie......He did get the shot. He had to wait 3 months to get in. It hasn't totally helped. I wanted him to get the prp shot where they take your blood and shake it up(?) and put back in your heel. I'd gone to a stem cell therapy class a few years ago and they said steriods(cortisone) are hard on your bones....weakens them. May you never get it again...thanks again for sharing.
I am a fan of Water fasting ,intermittent fasting and sardines fasting. But I’m fasting mostly for Autophagy so water fasting for more than a day is necessary. I never felt like I needed health advice tell I was 70 and now it’s my hobby.

I'm in love with sardines. I woke up at 4 AM to go to fisherman's market here in SE Asia, to buy it. It cost just about 1.5 USD for kilo at the high season. But you need to buy something 5+ kilo of it for that price. I pack them at small packets for one time consume(removing heads and intestines) and put it into the freezer. Viola, i have healthy source of proteins and fats for some time...
I really like sardines and i like a Challenge, so i did it. I find it really Easy and it felt so good After day 3 i did a 4 and 5 day. I eat the Skin and Bones sardines on water with some lemon juice. I drank two cups of coffee a day with butter for the rest water. On day 6 I treated myself to a big expensive steak and on day 7 that was yesterday 2 July I walked a marathon. I didn't need weight lost, but a mental boost and it helped.
I don't buy canned food with oil. They don't use good oil. I buy the one in water and use my own olive oil. I also grill my own sardines like the Japanese. They have a special gritl that is thinner than a regular oven and that cooks the fish better. You an buy it ready made in Japanese supermarket. They eat sardines and cabbage all the time.
My wife is from Panama so I’ve been eating sardines for breakfast for years. Saute them in a skillet using low heat with olive oil and onion. I find them delicious but then I’ve acquired a taste for them. I’m told that special ops guys carry them because they carry the most protein per ounce that any other food.
The sardine challenge was the most unbelievable thing that ever happened to me, I got a boost of energy like nothing I have ever felt in my entire life. I had to literally RUN this energy off, I couldn't recommend a more interesting and powerful little tool.
@@jaysbakes37 That is a very good question... So each day I did 2 different brands, one was the well known king oscar or whatever IN EVOO, and another brand that was definitely a very smaller operation, the grocery store where I bought them hasn't even replaced them, no restocking at all and for the life of me I can't remember the name.
@imjoeimjoe did you eat a lot of sardines during this time or did you only eat when needed? Curious how you achieved this energy! If it was the sardines or the actual fasting.
I started the challenge on Tuesday at 135 lbs on Saturday I was 129 lbs. I ate skinless and boneless sardines in water and olive oil. I was very surprised that I was not hungry during the challenge. I love to eat and this absolutely worked for me. I became creative and added other things to my sardines, which made them taste really good. I drank black tea and water. I'm keeping sardines in my diet. This meal is the only meal that keeps me from eating at night and because there is no window of time to stop eating, this is a win-win!

That's what I would like .Fresh sardines. Can't get them here a anymore. I'm lucky if what I can get in a can is good .. they often are ratey. Dry and overly salted .. unless there expensive ..
Sardines are delicious. I dont have a microwave, single and live alone. Then my fridge broke so I started thinking of things I could eat without major cooking, fridge storage, etc. And I am hooked. There are so many delicious brands of sardines. I can't stop. I like the ones in olive oil most but will rotate with water ones so I don't overdo on fat. It is very satisfying and I have been doing it for a few months. But when I cut added sugar and other, that was the game changer. 14 pounds melted away in six weeks and I was never hungry. Now I got all these guys chasing me....20 something year olds and I'm 44! Really was just trying to be healthy! I should say I don't only eat sardines. But they are my main course. I also eat nuts, dates, occasionally a small banana and a bit of 100% cacao. And there are other fish that can be rotated like oysters, mackerel, tuna
@@lisadicolli6689 It's the other way around. They take cheap rancid seed oil and add artificial chemical flavors to TORTURE it into tasting kinda like ghee. Ghee is the original treasured oil since humans domesticated cattle.
Having had an eating disorder since my youth (hyperphagia), I learned to get rid of it at 48 years old. First keto since 2021, then 1st modified sardine challenge in August (recipe from the Carnivore Doctor)... Result after 72 hours, ketones at 2.5. Then 17 days of carnivore, then a cheat Thursday last, unfortunately (the flesh is weak). So Friday the 13th, first day of my 2nd sardines challenge but this time, just canned . 2 every day, not capable of more. Yesterday, I surprised myself by liking sardines for dinner. This morning, blood sugar at 3.3 and ketones at 3.5😲🥰 What a surprise! 6 pounds less. Since I always feel fragile when faced with cheating, I am continuing my challenge today for a 4th day. It's boring but so effective. Thank you for sharing this knowledge which allows us to learn and helps us improve our Health.🥰 I hope one day to be able to get rid of this mental obsession with cheating at the slightest stressful event in life (illness of a loved one, death, moving, high stress at a specific time, etc.). I specify that I only added 20 to 25 gr of fresh lemon juice and it's like eating trout with lemon in fact (I took the sardines in water) then added 60 gr of butter to the two cans each day. Water, salt and a one-hour morning hike in the forest. That's it for me.🤗 I had barriers regarding sardines and yesterday I loved them, so going beyond your barriers, your limits is beneficial. Try!!!💪👍❤
Sardines are part of my regular diet, although I absolutely detest the way they taste, until I found a brand called Parmentier. Packed in olive oil, lemon, and bay leaves, onion, and peppers. This brand makes such a regimen possible.
I got the Seasons brand from Costco. I drain off the oil it comes with and eat butter instead. I think it tastes exactly like Tuna salad. I love no skin on it but admittedly I haven't tried one with skin.
@@chiarac3833 I've seen Dr Boz with the Seasons brand. I don't think they are cheap, they are just in bulk, like most things at Costco. Costco sells Rao's spaghetti sauce which is really expensive at regular grocery stores, for instance. Their meat is really good. Organic, grass fed, even wagyu.
Don't know if anyone will see this but California Olive Ranch has oils that are certified to be 100% grown and produced in California. They also have others that are blends from various countries so just read up on what they offer and choose carefully. After reading some comments here about being leary of olive oil really being pure I went to check out their site before posting. Surprised me that they have a 2L size of the 200% California that's packaged in those bag-in-a box, like wine. Keeps up to 24 months. And there's a 25%off 4th of July sale that ends 11:59pm tonight. Just passing along. No affiliation! 😊
Am I the only person that doesn’t mind the taste of sardines ? They r no problem for me , but I have always been one to eat for health not taste.. I also actually like the taste of liver.
Me, too. Enjoy liver and onions, veggies, fruit ..do not like, and i don’t eat pastry, pizza, beer, chocolate, nor alcohol. (I’m talking taste, here.) Cheers.
@mi81tkne47 I hated it as a child, at 16 begged mom to stop making me eat it (those were the days when kids ate what parents cooked, there were no CHOICES). But when I turned 40, I got a craving for liver. Actually ordered it at a pub and cleaned my plate. I eat it a few times a year now. Who'da thunk it.
Pro Tip Get the smallest sardines you can find. The bones are smaller, softer, and considerably easier to eat. This often means spending more on premium sardines.
Yes, I try to challenge and I will do it again. Last week I challenge myself and actually it wasn’t that bad. It wasn’t that hard and I feel great. And I truly feel the difference in total health. Try everyone and you will receive the benefits. Happy Health Everyone
@@tnmaxim5109 I don't want to do any thing so drastic.. I do fast for 18 hr without any problem and just eat two smalls meals a day.,, which suits me so each to their own.
@@Rachelhasacamera I find an 18 hr fast keeps my weight and more importantly my blood sugar level...I never feel hunger untill lunch time anyway now as, I'm used to totatally skipping breakfast in the beginning I really watched what I ate and cut out most carbs... Lost about 3stone... Then my weight stay the same that's about eight years. ago so I have continued to eat this way I feel good.. I'm 71 this year...
My first time doing this I was amazed that after months of plateau... I addressed my metabolic problem... My numbers changed! Glucose went from 200s to lower 100's and ketones went from .6-1.6 range to 3.8- 4.6. I've never seen these numbers. The 2nd time a week later I did this for 2 days right b4 fasting (which she recommends to do b4 fasting) amazing!!
I just passed the 48 hour mark. I started at 3:00 pm on Friday. On Friday I ate two cans. Yesterday I ate one can. And today I have only had 3/4 of a can. At first I thought I could do this, but now this is turning into more of a coffee with MCT oil powder and water with electrolytes fast for me because I am struggling with the funky aftertaste of the canned fish. Not even garlic chili hot sauce, mustard, or lemon juice disguises the aftertaste enough. I think I’m done for today and will eat my last can at 3:00 tomorrow. I’m using ketone strips and it is showing just a small amount of ketones so far. I’m hoping by tonight that will increase to moderate. At least I can say I tried it. And I didn’t cheat. I’m glad I tried it. Im not sure if I succeeded, but I’m glad I tried it.
It usually takes 3 to 4 days to make ketones. With more time in ketosis the pee strips arent effective as the ketones are used and in blood stream and not wasted in urine. Id do a ketogenic fiet for 3 to 6 months with heavy meat days to give it a real.shot.
Common man, you can do it. Suck it up for 24 more hours. You may need to eat more to fuel your body, though. You can do it. Trying is one thing, but succeeding is a whole nother thing. Not only will it boost your metabolism, but also your psychological framework. I encourage you to keep it up and follow through.
I get my sardines with skin and bones in water and I drain the water off and drink it and then I add MCT oil and about a 1/2 teaspoon of dijon mustard.
This works! ❤🎉 Day 2 I had 1.2 ketones and I fried mine and I drank Cure electrolytes that have sugar from coconut water powder. Now I'm using dr berg electrolytes and celtic sea salt. Oh and I also put heavy cream in my coffee. I'm going to do it every week for 8 weeks. I'm down 10lbs and still in ketosis!
I’m already at 11th grade weight of 175. But I’m going to try this. I do sprints daily, yesterday 30 in morning. Sardines for lunch. Had nap Another 30 3 pm. Then last nite I did 40. All these 100 yarders, walk back to starting line. After 100, with head lamp on, I got home and said I could have done more. I slept 2 hours. It never dawned on me why until now. It had to be the sardines. I’ll try this challenge. Btw, I’m at sprint 6,000 for the season , and 4,000 to go by Halloween. Dr. , when you get to Minnesota, stop by Shiloh Park in Plymouth and let’s do some sprints together! I spent 5 hours in the park yesterday, I thought I was a homeless camper! Let’s go!
Just started the sardine challenge. Hubby could not fast beyond 20 hours for last 4 years of keto/carnivore. Sardine challenge accepted and he did 2 x 25hr fasts leading up to it then 41 hrs to his 1st sardine can. Hes had a few cans on day 1 but we are blown away by his numbers - best ketones ever (.6 was a good number before - just got 1.4!!
28 hours in. I've eaten 4 times. I had coffee this morning and have been drinking green tea all day. I can't say I've felt any hunger even being very active. Will be interesting to see how tomorrow goes.
I just finished the sardine challenge. 5 lbs in 3 days. 😂 It's not bad, but my gut is upset. 😮 I will follow keto until I reach my goal of losing about 10 more lbs. Thank you, doctor! I'm still following you. My blood sugar dropped from 104 to 94. It works guys! Me happy
After a lifetime of cringing, I can eat sardines now. I much prefer the taste and texture of smoked herring, though. Either one is satisfying and gives me a boost.
@@reneemcgowan5684 I have done a couple of five day fast, but at 75 it's not that easy and I don't recommend it. Too many things can go wrong. Three days seems to be safe for just about everyone though.
I just started my sardine fast this morning. I'm going to try and entire work week for me instead of just 72 hours. I feel like I'm starving this morning and I've already had 2 cans. I'm am a volume eater. I think I'm going to be somewhere between 2-4 cans per meal until my body gets used to it. I plan to also have some mackerel in addition to the sardines for variety. I'm super excited to see what this week brings.
I only started the carnivore diet three weeks ago and already like the results ...NO heartburn, no joint pain, sleep through the night, lost 10 pounds, etc. I used to love sardines, but in a sandwich slathered with mayo. I've seen this challenge and think I might be too early to the party because I just started, but I do have them for one meal a few times. I actually had never thought of it, but I fry them up and I love it. Will be doing the challenge sometime this month.

Carnivore diet (animal products only) is an amazing elimination diet. To know how you can benefit, Google "meat heals" and add any illness or disease after it. You'll be amazed. BTW, it doesn't have to be temporary. Many long term carnivores enjoy optimum health.
Did this with avocado. Ketones are currently at 7.8… it’s Wednesday. I fasted for 48 hrs and in the 49th hour I ate two hard-boiled eggs with sea salt. Fasted 24 hours and ate 1 avocado. Fasted 24 hours and ate 1 avocado with sea salt. Burning fat like a frying pan on high! Too late for the challenge as I watched this video after I had finished my fresh sardines (that I had to clean first). Prepared them in the oven with olive oil, little lemon juice, piri piri flakes, salt and pepper. 🤤

You are very believable. None of my doctors are like you none of them seem to know anything about nutrition, but they know a lot about how to prescribe medicine so I’m trying to find doctors like you. Yes I’m gonna try it. Frankly I wish I can get my whole family hooked on the idea of eating fish every day salmon sardines even cod anything but it’s a hard sell
I never ate sardines until about 4 months ago. I thought they were OK (ie not completely gross but not my first choice either). Fast forward to a week ago and I was doing my usual weekly 36 hour water fast but I wasn't able to do it. I was having cravings for sardines and boiled eggs! What up with that?? 😂
@Batya-Grace That's what I figured. If I was craving something I loved, I could put it down to a simple craving to be ignored. But sardines... my body was crying out for nutrition. So I broke the fast and ate the sardines. Felt great afterwards!
I really don't like sardines, except the fresh ones I used to get grilled on a beach in Spain, but I'll give it a try. I don't want to lose weight, I'm thin enough but would like to boost my metabolism. Thank you Doctor. 😊
I am not a carnivore. Im a vegetarian who eats a little salmon for protein and very little dairy. My dairy comes from yogurt only. I am 5'1" at an obese weight of about 168-170. I have hypothyroidism and Im over 50 yrs old. I used to have a very fast metabolism with a ton of energy and trained as a dancer. To be this big is really tough for me. Believe me when I started to gain weight I felt every pound. I need to bring this inflammation and my weight down now and Im going to do this challenge.
I tried this and made it to 52 hours and with extreme bloating and constipation I had severe stomach cramping. I could not think of putting anything but greens - a salad in my system at that point. That did help but it took a while. Any suggestions on what to do so I could make it the 72 hours?
I want to do this challenge okay but I want two know 2 things. #1 is there any chance it will still work if I sneak a bite of wild caught salmon in each time to defray the taste and get past it? and #2 is there any blow back once you're in advanced Ketosis and start burning that toxic fat? How crappy can one expect to feel? My grandfather loved to eat sardines and live to 93. He was an 78 year smoker who said you should always smoke outside. He loved his 2 beers a day after work. He was in pretty amazing shape till his knee gave out and he fell watering flowers and broke his hip. If he's had a knee replacement I swear he would have lasted another ten years. I miss him still, he was amazing!
I tried to do this challenge using sardines in water since they are cheaper than the ones in olive oil. I tried 3 cans a day. I was literally starving! I might try again in the future.
It says eat as much as you want, so that was your problem not going buy the instructions. You’re just not eating enough of the sardines. So try to again I’m sure you’ll succeed If you follow the rules
I have been on the Carnivore diet for seven months (lost 50lbs) and I'm doing this challenge right now, but I am eating sardines in water instead of oil. I have been having two cans a day, and I'm on my second day, so far so good, but am I blowing it by not eating sardines in oil? I have lost a few pounds, and I and I am very happy because it has helped me with a recent plateau.
Ok day 1. Glucose 87 ketones .4 Today fasting 18hrs glucose 90 and ketone .2 whaaaaat! 😢 I have only put lemon, hot sauce or mustard. When the sardines are in water I added avocado oil.
I’m doing the sardine challenge and have found it to be really easy. I got the wild caught sardines in olive oil from Costco which is really good, I did add hot sauce which I like but even without that the sardines taste like trout.
Buy sardines in water. Avoid seed oils. Canned sardines in quality olive oil, if available, is overpriced. Supplement fat content with quality source of your choice e.g. butter, bacon fat, EVO,..
Eat sardines in extra-virgin olive oil in particularly look for the wild-caught sardines in extra-virgin olive oil, the sardines will give you the benefit of omega-3, the extra-virgin olive oil also give you the benefit of polyphenols. I’ve tried it, and I feel the benefit truly. And I will make this part of my once a month diet regimen. You guys can do it let’s go. Happy health to everyone.

I did add hot sauce, mayo and vinaigrette sometimes, but ate most plain out of the can. Fasting blood sugars in the 70s, never went higher than 120 after eating. I even ate diet Jello and had a big coffee every day the whole time. Truly amazing.
I’m close to completing a 72 water and electrolyte fast. Planning to slowly break it tomorrow, then 3 to 4 days of clean keto eating on a random 18/6, 14/10, 16/8 window, then going for the 72 hour sardine challenge! Yummm! 😋

What do we do to heal histamine intolerance to canned fish? I am so frustrated about hearing the great sardine benefits, but I have horrible histamine intolerance to them. Please, if someone has had any issues like this and found a way to fix it, any tips or advice would be much appreciated.
@@SaquibNomani Hi, I do take an antihistamine which helps a tiny bit, sadly not much though. I tried mackerel with some apple cider vinegar on them.
