Gonna start doing some light commentary in my vids, like it or not :) I'm away from my Steam Deck at the moment, so I dusted off my Steam Controller to play Borderlands 2 on my laptop! It feels very different, but trackpad + gyro is still an unbeatable combo, and I really hope Valve has Steam Controller 2 in the works. F*ck patent trolls!

Nice shooting! Some tips from a Steam Controller pro: - You might want to adjust your grip with the right hand a bit, so your thumb rests more on the center of the right trackpad. This gives you more usable distance when making swipes, and should be more comfortable for longer sessions. - make sure you dial in the trackpads "rotation" setting to compensate for your thumbs natural swipe angle. This helps remove unintended vertical drift from your swipes. - Wanna talk quick 180's? Set the trackpad sensitivity to max, then adjust the in game sensitivity so you can do a complete 360 on a full horizontal swipe. With the thumb on the middle of the pad, this means very fast 180's on a half swipe either direction - which is also great for tracking enemies horizontally. - if going for such extreme horizontal sensitivity, lower the vertical sensitivity scale (for just the trackpad) substantially. Games typically lock your vertical range to looking fully up and fully down, which is a 180 degree range. Some lock it to even less than that. Any sensitivity beyond that range is therefore pretty useless and really just serves to reduce your vertical precision. Reducing the sensitivity vertical scale can increase your vertical precision, and further help eliminate any left over vertical drift. - want "infinite turn" like flickstick? enable trackball emulation with low friction, and set its vertical friction scale to 0 so it only spins in the horizontal.

Can't you just set the flickstick to the trackpad (maybe to the edges)?

@@carlosbarreto4695 flickstick was made to make up for deficiencies with joysticks in the face of gyro, and in order to do so it completely eliminates vertical control. it doesnt really make sense to use on trackpad, because trackpad doesnt have those deficiencies. flickstick is good in some situations (like demoknight in tf2), but often times people wind up wanting another binding to reset the camera to the horizon. such a binding would eat another button. while the deck has a plethora of buttons, if you are using the trackpad "as mouse" for quickly turning the camera anyway then its more efficient to retain vertical control and just swipe a bit when you need to reset. as a result I have a hunch that high sensitivity trackpad mouse has a higher potential skill ceiling compared to flickstick. ultimately its down to preference though. since gyro is doing the bulk of the aiming work anyway, what thumb control you use doesnt matter so much. subjectively, I find high sensitivity trackpad as mouse more intuitive and comfortable to use, since camera movement isnt instant but rather tracks with the movement of your thumb. Flickstick has a learning curve, and I find the instant camera snaps to be disorienting.

OH! Also, reduce the double tap setting (found when pressing the gear next to the trackpad in steam input and opening up settings) as far as you can. There is some evidence the buffer for the double tap may contribute to latency with mouse swipes.
