BORN IN THE WRONG ERA - Fate/Samurai Remnant - 2 

Ah shit, I'm already enjoying this. ... That's not good...

One thing you realize very quickly while going through any Fate is that the series creator, Kinoko Nasu, is a huge nerd in the best way. He started as a small doujin creator, and before that, he was the roleplaying DM for his group of friends who would later become members of Type Moon (the studio behind Fate and everything Nasu) or creators themselves. The detailed story of the origins reads like it came out straight out of a romance manga, it's wild. There's even an anime (and novel) based on a roleplaying session he had with very famous authors like the creator of Baccano and the creator of Madoka...which have also made hugely popular Fate spin offs, because of course they did. All of this to say that that's why profiles are filled with parameters, magic circuit stats, class skills, noble phantasm types, etc. The details are mostly not important to the story, just lore, but they can be sometimes. Don't worry if some of them don't make sense, though. It will all make sense one day if you keep going down the rabbit hole...

Miyamoto Iori, the protagonist you play, is actually a real historical person though a few liberties are taken. For one in the year the game takes place he is actually 39 though I don't think the game clarifies his age so it may be a case of him being older than he looks. In real life during the time the game takes place though, Iori was actually very wealthy, being the chief retainer to the Ogasawara clan. Here, he's a rōnin who's barely making ends meet. Also in real life, he was actually Musashi's nephew whom he adopted and trained instead of here where he is just a random kid he chooses to adopt.

Iori: Now remember, we're not aiming to kill bandits. We'll be fighting non-lethally. Saber: [superhumanly fast strikes of water] Iori: Try to use the flat of your blade, or the scabbard, or even the hilt for a jab. Saber: [explosion of water, breaking waves, slashes of wind and rain] Iori: After all, we need to keep a low profile.

It’s actually common place for the Servant to do all the fighting and the Master to hang back taking potshots or play support. One of the selling points of this game is Giga Chad Iori actually fights on the frontline, no matter how much this franchise’s power system says that’s a bad idea.

So something about the Classes. Most of them are pretty self explanatory, it's just the thing they do. Saber uses a sword, Lancer uses a lance, spear, or some similar weapon, etc. However, Berserkers are unique. They are characterized by the fact that they're just batshit insane. There is literally a mechanic that makes Berserkers pretty much mindless rage machines, which is why Berserker in the episode is just roaring. There are some cases where Berserker is sane or can be made sane, but those are very rare.

So for the Servant and Master power discrepancies. While its understandable to be confused by it, consider the purpose the Servants are summoned for. To kill other Servants. They are summoned beings, not really human so it wouldn't be that far to consider them akin to demons or monsters in the classic fantasy sense. Their power is what makes them special, if that analogy is of any help

For those who know who exactly is that women at the end: Please wait for the game to clarify before we give any confirmation to Nico. I'll just say she's a VERY popular character that first appeared in the Fate Grand Order mobile game! Also someone mentioned it last video but you should probably talk to people with speech bubbles whenever you can because they can actually give you new terms for your index that you wouldn't have gotten before, and yes they're missable!

I think that Iori kinda gives me Kiryu vibes personality-wise like, he's calm and stern most of the time, but he clearly seems to be attentive and kind towards everyone around him, stopping Saber from destroying the town and caring about the townfolk overall and at the same time he can make some snarky remarks that may be just my first impression but anyway I like him a lot already 👀

This episode, Iori takes his walking nuke of an adoptive child out into town to pet the cats in the town she almost flattened XD. Also as a heads up, the stuff in the biographies for the Servants, like the parameters, aren't necessary to remember. It's more of a trivia thing for the nerds and usually doesn't come up. If it is important, they will mention it in the plot itself so don't worry too much about it.

Nico: I do find it weird that the Master is the weaker one, compared to the Servent who are gods. Me: Clearly, you haven't played enough Pokemon.

I do like Iori, he seems to be a very observant and empathetic person but doesnt let that stop him from what he needs to do. Its also amusing how he back talks saber.

Fun fact! That subtitle style is really common among the Berserker class in Fate, starting all the way back on the first of the series(Fate Stay/Night). It shows the ferocity inherent to a servant of the Berserker class, although there are rare exceptions to the rule(Especially in Fate/Grand Order. Most of the berserkers there speak normally thanks to Gacha being Gacha).

Nico walks through the streets with Saber, engaging in activities with them, wondering why this is very familiar. It is then Saber tells him he has to get a 90+ on Otometal MY LIFE!

Fun fact: Rice was the main currency and trade item for a long time in places such as very old Japan. Since Saber's referenced wood as what they used instead of paper/books... Saber probably comes from the Rice Economy era.

The silly data sheets about all the Servant stats and abulities is one of the best and dumbest parts of the Fate franchise. They basically all get D&D character sheets because the authors are massive nerds who love power scaling their own characters. It's really not that plot-relevant, it's just fun flavor text. Knowing that they just do this because they feel like it is a great way of understanding how Fate works.

Rather than explaining one solitary thing, I'm just gonna sit back and giggle at Nico's confusion as he gradually learns more about the setting and gradually falls headfirst into the Fate hole.

Fun fact: The reason that capital S Servants are depicted as demonstrably stronger than their capital M Masters is a part of a philosophy mages have in this franchise, being "What self respecting mage would have a familiar that isn't stronger than them? If I could do things better than my familiar, what's the point?" Granted, it is more of a mindset than a hard rule.

Nico is having fun, and he didn't even get to see any of the ladies with very big chest areas yet. Only a matter of time though, our lord and saviour WADARCO is never far when there's an anime battle royale going on.

What I find really funny about Saber right now is her Insistence on eating her fill even though Servants are Spirits and only need Magical Energy from their Master and the Energy she gains from Food is swindingly small.

Heads up for next episode, Nico. Once you leave Yoshiwara, you won't be able to explore that town for awhile, so you should probably do all of the Local Trials (as called in the menu) before you leave. However, one of these will actually be impossible to do for quite some chapters, so don't run in circles like the rest of us did when the game came out. BTW, you should look out for sign boards while in towns (the game doesn't tell you about them until you examine one for the first time, so it is possible to be oblivious for longer than you should.)

Noble Phantasm, essentially an ultimate attack from a servant that is specific to the servant itself. Example using a character that does not exist in the game: Nagito Komaeda would have a Noble Phantasm that either boosts his luck to an insane level, making him hit only critical hits or takes one step and then a building falls on his enemy.

19:52 Usually the Holy Grail would give Servants some amount of relevant knowledge about the location and era in which they are summoned but for some reason Saber seems to be largely in the dark about a lot of things.

Gameplay tip on Riposte, you'll want to dodge *into* the hitbox of an enemy's attack, if your dodge frames and their attack frames collide then it will trigger. I also very much recommend checking skills carefully as some can be very helpful.

Today in Edo: Iori had buy random crap to repair his house, Saber got to Eat good food and kill some bitches, both of them had to help collect on some debtors, and finally facing off with a HUGE Dude and Iori's Master but HOT!

Welcome to Neon's Lore Corner! I will try to explain the real world stories of the various characters! First, let's start with the two that we know: The Miyamoto's. Miyamoto Musashi is, obviously, the founder of the Niten-Ichiryu style, which translates to "the school of the strategy of two heavens as one", which is a cool fucking name. He lived from 1584 to 1645, wrote a book called "The Book of Five Rings", which is a book about swordsmanship and martial arts. He fought his first duel at the age of 13 and went on to fight 66 duels undefeated, including against another famous swordsman, Sasaki Kojiro. The fight, from what I read about it, sounds badass. They both struck at once, and while Kojiro's attack only cut Musashi's headband (apparently not even touching his head), Musashi's attack killed Kojiro. He later died of what is believed to be cancer. He also had four adopted children. Kaya is not one of them in real life, but Iori most certainly is. Iori, unfortunately, has a lot less to talk about. He lived from 1612 to 1678, and he actually was a vassal of the Ogasawara house, unlike in Samurai Remnant. He was apparently a very well respected man, though there are not very many actual stories told about him since in reality, he seemed to be just a dude who happened to be adopted by one of the most famous swordsmen to ever exist. The most interesting thing I could find is that he was apparently involved in the Shimabara rebellion, the event that Lancer's master was a survivor of (as mentioned in the last episode). So some of the timeline in this game is a bit different than it was in reality.

Here's a combat tip Nico: Unless you are in the air or are getting hurt or I suppose any other negative action that staggers you, you can cancel out of almost anything by switching stances, some attacks you have are VERY long so you should probably get into the habit of that.

So to explain the bit about the master servant relationship and they've kind of hinted at this so far, is that to summon a servant you typically have to be some kind of mage. The easy explanation is you're a mage who's summoning a powerful familiar that's there to murder stuff for you and there's rules to that which the game will likely also explain. But one thing to note is in a cutscene in a previous video Saber wanted to nuke the town and Iori ordered Saber to stop. And when that order happened, there's was a red flash on Iori's hand which is important to pay attention to. And yeah, the circumstances are a bit extraordinary, but I imagine the game will eventually explain things in more detail.

Folks, as Nico said in this video *RELAX WITH THE TRIVIA*. I'm already acquainted with the Fate franchise and even I'm feeling overwhelmed from reading the comment. Chill. I know you are all antsy, but let him discover on his own.

Well nico, to answer that one thing you have about masters being strong enough to summon servants that is addressed throughout the continuity. The simple answer is the rituals to perform a grail war themselves produce a immense amount of magic energy which allows servants to be summoned. And while you could try to summon a servant without it you would more then likely die.

Wait this is real? I wasn't high, drunk, nor having a weirdly vivid delusion two days ago? What timeline am I living in?!

Finally! I knew I was gonna get COTD eventually. The fact that it's happened in a Fate video makes me so damn giddy like you would not believe.

Fate and Touhou are very similar to me in the sense that I know for a fact I'd be a diehard fan of both, but both are so massively daunting that I just haven't had the drive to actually pick either series up. Fate's gonna be a deep, DEEP rabbit hole and I'm all for Nico's insane screaming the further down it he falls.

so all you need to know about Noble Phantasms is they're essentially a Servant's powerful super special attack. Soemtimes they're merely a 'weapon', sometimes they're more closer to an 'ability'. They're usually incredibly powerful/destructive and tend to give a hint to a Servant's identity.

since musashi was a famous swordman and has already died it should be possible to bring him back as servant but this…this is not what i was expecting...

One thing to know about Sabers Nico the further you go down the Fate rabbit hole…they all have big appetites. As an aside prepare to dive deeper into the inner working of how the Master/Servant dynamic works, and just to note like with Xenoblade Chronicles 3 there is DLC for this game, three extra scenarios to the Waxing Moon Ritual with new characters and stories that take place alongside the main one. Should be coming out one at a time all of next year. So at least you should have a something extra to do in-between series next year.

Clearly Saber is related to Vivia Twilight with that advanced astral projection.

I told you the Nasuverse would be a trip. Meet a rather recent fan favorite, female Musashi Miyamoto. Famous and infamous male historic figures having an alternate female form isn't uncommon. As for the Berserker class, it's exactly what it says on the tin. Strength and defense? Jacked. Mental status? Nonexistent. Some Berserkers have outright lost the ability to speak a human language, as you saw with the subtitles.

Noble Phantasms are like a Servant's strongest attack or skill, their trump card. It's this trump card that is the reason most Servants choose to hide their True Names, because knowing the True Name of a Servant can reveal what they can do, since Servants are important fictional and historical people. I'd give an example but I'm not sure which fictional and historical figures have been put into the series thus far. There's a lot of rules to Fate, Nico, but I'm sure you are more than up to the task!

Since I don't see anyone else talking about it, here's some info on Servant Stats. They range from E to A with E being 10 and A being 50. + is when a Servant can boost their stats with + being doubled, ++ is tripled, and +++ is quadrupled with - being a "not quite but good enough" kind of mark. EX rank is anything this system can't really rank. If a normal human is 1, that makes a Servant with E STR 10 times stronger than a normal human.

Is there any hope Nico will ever play the OG? If he played F/SN I would probably rise straight to Heaven. There are only Fan Translations of it but those are pretty functional and while I put like 80 Hours into it I began enjoying it faster than Steins Gate. It really was phenommenal for me back then and is up to this Day one of my fondest Fictional Stories I ever witnessed. If anyone here is a Shirou stan please raise your Hand. His and GARchers Story and Ideological Battle was probably one of the most Inspirational Hero stories I witnessed as a Kid and kinda Influensed me a lot growing up.

Alright NicoB. Listen up. If you enjoy this, if you want more, I HIGHLY recommend the Ultimate Edition of Fate/Stay Night, the original visual novel. One, it's free, and two, it actually removes all adult material. Good for RU-vid. I played it blind and it was the BEST game I've reacted to in my 15 years on here. I do recommend it a lot!! I fell down the Fate rabbit hole only a few years ago and it quickly became a life changing franchise for me.

I Trully like Iori and Saber as lead characters for this game, they have such good chemistry, and Saber is just so sassy at the beginning of the story. BTW they are about to throw a LOT of LORE on you so just remember this mantra when things begin to be overwhelming, it will save you a lot of headaches in the future [when it comes to FATE stuff anyways] Now repeat after me "Don't worry about it" this is a magic spell that will carry you through your journey in this franchise.

As someone who has a very passing familiarity with the fate series( half an anime series and some abridged series) I think the best comparison is to American super hero comics. There's a "main" series with a ton of spin offs, along with alternative universes, series at different eras past and future, and "what if?" Story's. Fate stay night is the original, but any series should be entertaining, if not a little confusing.

Just commenting for the algorithm, dont mind me! (I'm as new to Fates as you are on this, Nico. I decided to check out this LP out of curiosity, and now I really hope it won't hurl me down the rabbit hole either LOL)

(Apologies for the bad english, not my first language)So, a fun trivia: As you know, Servants are heroes from the past summoned for this battle royale, but in Fate/Samurai Remnant, because of the setting, the Masters are also based on actual historic figures, with of course some artistic liberties. Some people already said about Iori, who is the apprentice of the legendary Miyamoto Musashi, but i want to talk about a fun little trivia about Rider's Master, Yui Shousetsu. Im not going into details about the actual Shousetsu though, but rather his role in a very popular Japanese Novel called Makai Tensho (translated as "Samurai Ressurection"). In this novel, Shousetsu meets his mentor Mori Souiken (pronounced as "Moh-ri Soh-ih-ken) who, in the novel, was a survivor from the Shimabara Rebellion, which was one of the largest civil conflicts during these peaceful times of Japan. On the novel, both Shousetsu and Soiken decide to work together to take revenge on the Shogunate, and for that, Soiken, who was a master of Mystic arts, revives many warriors and military generals from Japan's past to bolster their army. One of the revived martial artist, Yagyu Jubei (who you might know as the "Samurai with an eyepatch" present in many animes, manga and games, like Samurai Shodown for example) manages to break free from the spell and starts trying to stop this rebellion. The real interesting part is that, as you may have suspected, "Samurai Ressurection" is the biggest inspiration to "Fate/'. The creator of the original VN, Kinoko Nasu, was a junior in high school when he discovered a manga adaptation of the novel by Ken Ishikawa, and was inspired to write something on the same idea of "Heroes from the past battling each other". After many years and alterations, in 2004, that old story of his became "Fate/Stay Night".

Yeah rather than the typical hierarchical implications of Master and Servant, think of it more like Final Fantasy Summoner and their Summon

I'm still relatively new to the Fate series myself, so I'm still learning a lot of the ins and outs. But with regards to Masters being weaker than Servants, that's sort of to be expected. Kind of think of it like Masters being Mages who summon Servants to do battle with one another. Masters aren't usually expected to do the fighting themselves, at least in other series. Samurai Remenant is unique in that sense with both Master and Servant fighting side by side. At least that's my understanding of things.

I honestly keep wanting to call Saber(Black Hair Variant) Nayuta.

The Waxing Moon Ritual... Last time i checked, we don't talk about the Moon in the Fate community. Don't worry about it. That's the motto. (If you know, you know. But I only know the video, not the lore. I'd rather not worry about it. Or the Moon.)

One thing you need to understand is that Main Character Sabers tend to have...hmm...comically expensive appetites. They're always hungry.
