Why is everyone talking about bottlenecking again?? With so many high end parts you would think bottlenecking is dead… but that’s NOT true!

Hey Phil and Nick - these skits are an awesome representation of the pipeline. I've never thought of how you could relate the work back to people in this way. Feels like it captures the pipeline and is very easy to understand. Great job!

Still entirely wrong. A bottleneck is not simply the slowest part of a system - **every** system has (N-1) bottlenecks, always, if that is the defintion. A bottleneck is when the .e.g GPU *chokes* and runs _more slowly_ than it would if the slow component wasn't as mismatched. Not just can't do as much work. But chokes and loses *relative* performance compared to a different setting/match-up. It comes from the fact that a wine bottle, when you pour it out "fast", glugs and makes the total flow **_less_** that by using a shallower angle (where air can get in, and thus no glugging).

I would like to discuss how games nowadays bottleneck your components when they are terribly optimized. When you see that your i7 at 10% and your gpu is at 40% makes me wanna cry man
@xrafter
@xrafter Месяц назад
Maybe they are optimized for power saving instead of performance. Or maybe Windows is limiting the power usage when extra power is not needed. They are many possibilities other than the game. Like engine limitations, developers limited your hardware to protect it from unwanted bugs that appear at high framerate like gta 5. Although I think framerate oriented games are getting old but I don't know anything about the game dev industry if that was actually the case.
@ultragtman1563
@ultragtman1563 Месяц назад
@@xrafter Oh you are really hitting my interests friend. Its funny how that works for developers. Fixed framerates in games are tied to so many things. Just like gta v back then on the PC port if you hit any framerate above 30 fps the barrier arms for Solomon richards won't move up they stay stuck until you limit your fps to 30. They fixed this bug which occurred again in the Xbox series x upgrade the barrier arms were still stuck and wouln't move until you used the Fidelity graphcis mode. It's so funny there are so many subliminal messages that game performance is limited by engine capabilities. I play red dead 2 and gta iv still and religious cap my framerate. The thing is i love capping my frames to 30 if you do it right with vsync or triple buffer or even the riva tuner frame limiter man does the games look amazing. And sure i have bought into cinematic frame rate bc good motion blur and playing open world games at 4k native 30 is still so great. Just my opinion i use my pc as an ultra performance console. if some games that need to be pushed over 120 ill do it I have a 120hz oled and its great but i do appreciate my open world cinematic graphic optimization that I do

I think it's worth mentioning that bottlenecking is always going to be present in each system, but is't necessarely a bad thing in itself, it depends on where it is. Also, as a general roule, if you're aiming for a better gaming experience, it's better to have the gpu at 100% and the CPU waiting, because of all the random background tasks that the processor has to handle that would otherwise cause an fps dip. With that said, this was an awesome video and I would love to see more from you two ❤
