Bought BMW 528i 2013 for $8,450 + Headlight water/moisture/condensation removal FIXED!!! This is a common issue on BMWs from 2013 down to 2003. This simple method is going to help with this problem.
You just saved me $2000! I had exactly the same condensation issue in the headlight of my 2012 535i. (Because of this issue, headlight malfunction warning signal showed up on the instrument panel.) An auto repair shop in my area quoted me $2000, so I made up my mind to fix it by myself, and found your clip here. It worked like a charm!
hi, this does work but i think this is just a temporary fix as it normally indicates the seal has gone on the headlight. after you have done this it helps to dry it after it gets wet again if you put some silica gel packets inside but it normally means replacing the headlight or resealing it, there are some videos on youtube which show how to do either, cheers derek
delboyginger you might try it as its free and easy. For some it work because the back cap was loose all the time and thats how they get water. If it wont help you can find the leak on the seal and put some clear silicone which worked for me for other vehicle. No one is ready to spend $2000+ just to fix this simple but annoying issues. @@ALITASHOW hi ayan M and thanks very much for your reply, an update from me regards the silica gel packs, i put them in after i had dried the headlight with the hair dryer and it was ok for a short time but soon misted up again. i checked the silica gel and they were all damp so i took them out and the head light is mostly clear so i wouldn't recommend silica gel packs any more. i think the weather here in the UK is a lot warmer now and that has eased the situation but a permanent solution will have to be resealing or replacing, cheers, derek
delboyginger I sold this vehicle and of course replacing the headlight is %100 fix but I had 10 of these beemers until now and sold them all For me its more sense to try out the simplest solution if it didn’t work move to another idea of fixing things
I Just Purchased this Model/Year and I had the same issue but it was causing and actual headlight malfunction..I tried this and it worked, no more malfunction warnings. Im gonna keep an eye on it and see if the condensation comes back, so far so good at the moment though.
gtmaster303 it did but very lightly I had to seal the edges with clear silicone by pushing it in small gap between clear lens and headlight housing. And I repeated the process again with hairdryer and it never came back again

So how I fixed my problem sorta: I took of how in this video for a bmw f10 the cap that goes on top of the headlight and I drive without it now and my headlight is clear and working fine! I think only for winter I will drive with it if Becasue idk what’s wrong with it but at least my lights work and don’t look broke driving around with a watered up headlight and not working. Now the reason I said kinda is Becasue on my dash the headlight still says only this time “aim control malfunction” idk how to really get rid of that but atleats my high and low and angel eyes work so yeah and oh btw it took about 3 days with the caps of to fully clear the headlight so there you go
It works for me I did it like 3 times unfortunately....... But it still makes me wonder if I dont fix this issue properly isn't it going to ruin the headlight? Like something get wet inside? I do not wanna buy a new one its over 1k..
I have a 2016 and I wrecked now my adaptive headlights don’t work however my halos do go figure the dealer wants 3,000k I got a guy who does it for way less tho
Rollin Weight I have sold the vehicle since that repair, but haven’t heard any complaints from a customer I had a similar situation with my other vehicle but I noticed that it might comeback depending on if there is a “hole” for moisture to come in. Usually silicone fixes small “holes” on the seams. Other advise to check if the air when you blow dry coming out in those crevices between lens and housing
Therie Moore there should be a circular cap that you twist loose. Just look for it as it blends in for some bmw’s. My 2015 f30 cap was under a bar of metal but I was able to undo it. Best of luck
ayan dang, yeah my mechanic is trying to get me to replace the whole headlight. It’s super expensive and I just watched your video. Same car and same driver side headlight
Mechanics there to do the job and get paid. I always look for alternative solutions because if person needs your money they will find the most expensive way to fix it. In reality its just a small hole that we need to find and reseal I would say if the headlight from the outside not cracked the culprit is from the behind. In that case we should be able to use heavy duty silicone if we find that leak.
ayan yes I agree 100% I will let you know tomorrow what he say because my head light works and doesn’t need replacement I will give you the feedback tomorrow once I get it back from the shop.
Yo Yea when you will be blow drying next time check with you finger along the edge where plastic back and lens meets. Usually you can feel for some air coming out and thats your leak/hole where moisture enters. Also check the bulb replacement housing, sometimes they are left not properly closed. Use good clear silicone to seal along the edge, it might help not guaranteeing to solve your problems.
Hi, my F34 adaptive led headlight has some minor moisture on the right area of it. İ remember that one of the screw slots from the turning signal module was broken. Could that be the leak?
