I remember going to see this because I had some free time before work and it was just long enough to fill the time. I thought it'd be an easy way to get a nap, but was pleasantly surprised by how funny it was! Sometimes you discover great movies on a split shift! Have you seen The Last Starfighter (1984)? If not, then that's my comfort movie recommendation 😊

This is one of three Eddie Murphy films I like and feel he should have had a Best Supporting Actor nomination. The group Kit is part of is the film making fun of Scientology.

My favorite film dramatizing the process of low-budget filmmaking is "Ed Wood" (1994). I saw it when it came out and was impressed with how well the film captured not only the films of Ed Wood, but low-budget filmmaking in general. Sadly the theater was nearly empty. It reminded me of when I went and saw "Little Shop of Horrors" (1986). That theater was nearly empty too. I guess I have unique taste in films. I know about the Director's Cut, but I haven't bought it yet. I love the original cut. Yesterday I received a package that I ordered of the Unrated Version of "The Blues Brothers" (1980). I had seen the R Rated cut back in 1980 when it was released (and own it on VHS, LaserDisc, and DVD), but I actually prefer the Unrated Version. It's about 10 minutes longer and a better version in my opinion. Both the R Rated and Unrated versions are available for purchase on Amazon Prime. I bought the Unrated version and liked it so much I bought it on 4K UHD and Blu-ray. I think I may have seen parts of "Bowfinger" before, but not the whole thing.

I agree about Ed Wood (1994). Unfortunately, you might've said too much about it, so Alexa might not count your vote.

@@ZukoHalliwell I purposely left out any mention of the plot or cast just in case she hadn't seen it. Depicting the making of low budget films is pretty lacking in details. No mention of the Director either.

Cheers, Alexa, for the Patty McGoohan nod! When I was a lil kid, I thought the song was "Secret Asian Man." Could never work out (around age 7): is it an Asian man in secret or someone pretending to be Asian? And I was fascinated to find out. So I watched Danger Man with my dad and loved it. About 10 episodes in I realized that I'm an idiot. (Consistent realization to this day, most every day 🤗.)

Hi Alexa. This is a true 'laugh out loud' movie. Can't believe it gets ignored so often. The whole ridiculous concept & the way the actors 'dead-pan' their way through it, is just unique. Good pick and good job. ; )

I quite enjoy watching movies with a low budget. It's interesting to see how they worked around the budget constraints and often come up with ingenious ways to film. A couple I love are Carnival of Souls (1962) and El Mariachi (1992).

I understand your reaction. I loved it at the time; it's one of the few post 1990 comedies I've actually laughed at. Reminds me of an Albert Brooks film "Real Life" from 79 where a 'normal' family is followed all over with a camera by an egomaniacal director.

Are you saying that American TV replaced the theme for Patrick McGoohan's 'Danger Man' series with that song? I never knew that's the origin of that song. I wonder how American TV would have handled something like Edward Woodward's downbeat 'Callan' series, which makes Len Deighton's Harry Palmer look like Roger Moore's James Bond.

0:22 I've never seen that movie. 😞 I'm curious, did you ever see it in theaters with the people who dress up and reenact certain parts? Because, my mom has. Apparently, there's a wedding scene or something where the reenactors throw rice, and… let's just say that this was before soda cups at movie theaters had those plastic covers. 😂 0:44 All Winnie the Pooh content is the epitome of comfort, warm hug movies/TV shows.
